Would you ever consider making a sorta of Zero to Hero type of series? Where you start with base capital of like 5k gold and show how you would turn that into 100k or something along those lines? Would really help brand new players to the game like me as the market is very complicated to understand!

In your farmed string, is there a way to keep TSM from posting overpriced white/green junk, or a way to automatically separate that out from other farmed items? Hey you definitely can automate it. It depends on the parameters youd like to use, but you can incorporate If/then statements to determine posting. Hey Penguin, love your videos! In terms of math I think you meant to say crafting * 0.95 instead of crafting / 0.95. If you do 100 / 0.95 = 105.2, if you want 5% off of the price its 100 * 0.95 = 95.

In case of posting you want to do /.95! The AH fee is 5% so you want to compensate for that by adding it to the crafting total, if you take it away that means you are losing more gold. 115% crafting on a 100g crafted item means you sell it for 115, but after the 5% fee, you actually only made 110g. Adding /.95 adds that buffer so you are truly making your total % profit

Hey! Firstly try removing the parentheses, some game clients seem to have an issue with them, so 115% crafting/.95 not 115% (crafting/.95) if that doesnt work, here is more troubleshooting, if you still have any issues let me know: 1. Why am I getting a "__% crafting is Invalid" error? There are many possible reasons why you would be getting this error but one of these should fix it: - If you cannot craft the item at the current moment, "crafting" will be invalid - you will have to use a different Variable - If you can craft the item, go and reopen that profession menu (the TSM version) and see if that fixes it - TSM 4.11 does not have Cross faction support, if your crafter is a different faction from seller, you need to move them to the same - If you are trying to sell an item that is not craftable, "crafting" will be invalid - you will have to use a different Variable - If the item you are crafting has a BoP reagent (Blood of Sargeras, etc.) - you will have to set a custom price source for that BoP item (Tutorial for that is in the next question), in order for you to see a valid "crafting"

Is there a way to fix TSM to calculate the profit of a crafted item based off of crafting the missing materials yourself? Like say I'm missing bolts and string for crafting a tailoring item. TSM will tell me an item is not worth crafting because people are selling those bolts and string on the AH for more than what the finished item would sell for. It never seems to calculate how much profit I'd make if I bought the string from the vendor that sells it and also bought the cloth off the AH and crafted the bolts myself. (It would probably get way more complicated with professions like inscription where milling has a x% chance of dropping a needed material.) This has been the biggest problem for me when it comes to using TSM. Thanks for your help!

In your profession menu, go to the gathering tab and on the left side you will see your gathering list sources. Vendor should be there, if not make sure it is. In terms of intermediate crafts you want to add in AH(crafting). This typically goes below Craft(profitable) but above AH. That will tell you if you can buy the materials needed for the actual material you need (so let’s say you need heavy desolate leather, it will tell you to buy normal desolate if that’s cheaper). Also while you are at it, remove Craft(Unprofitable). That should fix your issue!

With the Crafted price, does that only apply to the character with the profession? For example, say I have a bank alt with no professions, and a main with tailoring, and the tailor makes a bag and sends it to the bank alt to sell. Will the bank alt still be able to work with the crafted cost/price? or would I need to sell it on my tailor in order for that calculation to be taken into account?

The crafting source applies to all characters on the same account and realm. So yes, if you have your tailor craft bags and send it over to a non-tailor, the non-tailor will still be able to post the items accurately. One thing to note is that TSM is not Cross-Faction supported so if your crafter is Horde, but your poster is Alliance or vise versa, it will not work.

Something is wrong on your end, Feel free to join the discord and we can troubleshoot further for you. Some quick tips: Make sure you have your desktop application open and has your realm data. Make sure you are using this operation only on items you are able to craft. Make sure you’ve reopened your profession menus and have hard coded vendor prices.

However, it looks like the 115% crafting/.95 only works on the toon with the profession that crafts the item. The string does not work on my level 1 toon because there is no way for TSM to see what materials are needed to craft the item since my level 1 auction toon does not have the profession. So glad i wasted hours on messing with TSM and was pointless.

You do not need the profession on the character in order to use the string. Only exception is if you are using two accounts, then you need to TSM sync, if it is the same account, the string works account wide as the crafting cost is read on all toons

TSM crafting cost is accurate; however you just need to know how its calculated. It uses dbmarket, aka the avg price of materials, not the current price on the AH.... TSM does not update instantly and cant so it has no way of using the current price. So as long as you buy at or below dbmarket, you are making as much profit or even more than TSM is suggesting

If you are talking about Crafting Methods and if that is your whole string for your default craft method, I would not recommend. This is default: "min(dbmarket, crafting, vendorbuy, convert(dbmarket))".. default takes into account dbmarket, the ability to craft items (crafting), ability to buy items from the vendor (vendorbuy) + any additional non-profession crafts/milling/prospecting (convert)... only choosing from dbmarket or avgbuy can leave out alot of true mat costs for items. Also you need to be careful with avgbuy as it is the avgbuy price of everything you've ever bought, not just what you currently own. In cases like Korthia Crystals or Essentia where those items used to be 10x or 20x the price of what they are now, your AvgBuy can be very very skewed. You either need to wipe your old ledger data often, or use smartavgbuy. If you are referring simply to a posting operation, that operation is completely fine for flipping/reselling items, but I would not use it for crafted items or simply farmed items

You don't need the 0.95 in your operation for auction house fees. Operations already take the AH cut into consideration by default.

The default craft value method for crafting will take into account the 5% fee. However if you want that to transfer over to posting you need to apply the /.95 as well

On a lot of realms most items wont get posted cause people are already selling literally everything under the crafting cost :/ I logged into my inscription char today I got sad real fast. I don't understand why do people continue to craft/sell items which are losing them money. And undercutting man... most of the time they undercut for 20-30% and make everybody lose gold.. I will never understand behavior like that.

A big thing to remember is not everyone has the same mat cost as you. People could have stockpiled herbs when they were really cheap, transferred them in from another server, etc. also for inscription specifically you need to make sure you are using some sort of custom milling source. I personally recommend Koya’s. Default Inscription will always tell you false profit margins. Either way, you never want to sell under crafting cost, so if it’s sadly currently priced under, at least you won’t be posting the item and losing gold.

There is imo 1 adventage that default post string has. Current content materials extremely rarely will be 0 on the market, and both dbmarket and dbregionmarketavg are stable. So for lazy people that only do farming. It can work. Bad thing: you will only post 5, so you do need to change that detail. Bad thing nr 2. People that are trying to bait people, can bait you if you are using default. So.. do not use default.

Make sure you have no spelling errors or weird spaces before or after the string. You also need to make sure you have the Desktop Application running at all times to ensure you are getting data, if you dont have the Application, thats your main issue. If you are still struggling, feel free to give more information regarding the error

yeeeeah this is nice and all until you're in server like mine where there's literally ONE guy who keeps posting hundreds maybe even thousand different mats and items for over 350k ruining the crafting string single handedly.... want to craft any missive? hmmm oh wow it shows 349k profit! craft it anyway and then post it bam posted for 349k :) undercutting the one guy... yeah but what about the guys below posting it right price?? NAAH ignore those and keep posting it for 349k... this guy been doing this since shadowlands launch any item he gets new or old he post 1 amount for 350k... i blacklisted him with and without capital letter in tsm did it work? lol no and it only went away after getting rid of crafting string guess the reason for him doing this is to pry on people who don't pay attention buying item lets say there is 179 item X on AH you don't pay notice to prices enter 200 on buy window and fast click buy ending up buying all the items including his 350k item sorry just had to get it out of my system :S

Yep people who post items for very high prices are people baiting TSM users - people who use the Task List to shop for items and arent paying attention and they accidentally spend all their gold on one item, sadly happens quite a lot. The other group of baiters are the people who post for very low values - 1s, 1g, 10g, 50g, etc. Those people are trying to bait out people who use #default, and just default AH UI. In terms of your issue, its due to how the Crafting methods are setup in TSM, if you havent already I recommend watching a video about how crafting works. Next time you see "too good to be true" profit, refer back to market value or historical value to see if its actually real.
