Speaking of 80’s Isuzu, the I-Mark RS Turbo (Gemini Irmscher FF) with its Lotus-tuned suspension was an amazing forgotten rally sports hot-hatch. Isuzu also produced a few performance sedans like the Stylus Irmscher FF.

Agreed , I have a Avenger SXT with the 177 kw 2.4 Vvt which is the direct dececendant of this car , we I Australia missed out on these but was lucky to have dodge come back and release the Avengers ( no RT spec though but mine is only the trim package away from it ) looking at this it's still wouldn't look out of place in modern cars here on the street

Love that you covered this car. 224 hp from a turbo 2.2L 4 cylinder would be respectable today, but in 1992 it was incredible. These really were under appreciated and underrated cars, what with their fantastic performance combined with their decidedly 80’s K-car type styling.

This probably was 1 of the best body shapes that used the turbo 2.2. My friend had a LeBaron gts 2.2 turbo but it was automatic transmission. It just didn't seem all that quick to me. Made a lot of noise and couldn't break the tires when floored. It's was much better than the average 4 cylinders of the day. Now my other buddy had a 1986 Chevy z24 v6 hatchback. That thing would spin the tires with 4 dudes and 4 15" woofers in the back! I think you feel that 220+ horses more on like a highway than stoplight race.

Eagle Premier wasn’t Mitsubishi…it was a Renault design, essentially. It featured a 3.0L PRV (Peugeot Renault Volvo) fuel injected V6 and a ZF 4 speed auto. Engine was mounted longitudinal like an Audi or a RWD car. While not a success it was a very well designed, competitive and modern car “for the time” as Bill would say. The Premier also spawned the underpinnings of the upcoming cab-forward replacements…Eagle Vision/Chrysler Concorde, and Dodge Intrepid. I’m a huge fan of the Premier as it was my first car, bought new in ‘88, I inherited it in ‘92.

My mother was a Chrysler fan. First vehicle I remember riding in with my folks as a kid was a big ass blue, Chrysler Cordoba. This was around 1984/1985. Being a car fan back then, I grew up with this brand and some of the cars in this video being spoken about brought back some cool memories. The minivan brought the company back from the brink of death. I remember wanting my parents to get one so bad but they purchased a 1987 silver Aries K wagon with the "wood trim" on the outside. My Aunt had a light champagne colored Chrysler LeBaron coupe around that time too. That was nice. My Uncle had a white Dodge Spirit and in 1990 my parents picked up a grey Plymouth Acclaim LE. A kid that lived in my development also had parents with a Plymouth Acclaim but they had the LX model which had the fog lamps and all the goodies. My folks had the model below that one so that's how I could tell the difference when I saw them. But that was a great vehicle until I unfortunately crashed it in 2000... My folks did end up with that minivan too. The Acclaim was there and in 92, they traded the wagon in and bought a cranberry colored Plymouth Voyager. The Van unfortunately got stolen though a few years later. My parents every few years got something new because of where we lived and the commute to work. You needed 2 cars where we lived but they commuted an hour away everyday. They've also had a Dodge Neon, Dodge Stratus and a Chrysler Cirrus. The Cirrus got sold to a friend's daughter with 220,000+ miles but the car was in great condition since my folks always took care of their vehicles having to commute such distances during the week. But the Cirrus was the last Chrysler product that was ever parked in the driveway. Thanks to this company for having great vehicles that were reliable, even if that's not what people thought.

A drunk driver creamed me at an intersection. I fixed it and sold it thru the body shop. I was a cop and saw it drive by me one night so I stopped the guy. Said the car was good to him. Think I still got the window sticker somewhere. Bought a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim to replace it when I was 30, with the 3.0 Mitsubishi lasted me 15 years and 155,000 miles.. no problems..great car. My father was in the automotive business for well over 50yrs. He owned a large wholesale company until he retired. Growing up(I'm 41 now) he would bring home the best and craziest cars almost daily. And this was one of them! I love all of these videos as a lot of them remind me of the awsome machinery my pops would bring home, which in turn led me on to be a lifelong car enthusiast! Thanks!

OMG Bill...l'm a guy who loves the 60's and early 70's stuff 'cause l remember seeing them in action.,but when l saw this car in action, surprising everyone when the light went green. WOW!!!,they were still picking their jaw up from the sidewalk/street. I only remember two being in town,Ottawa,Ont.,and rarer than hen's teeth. Yes,you are right about it having the rental look,'cause the other drivers thought it was a sticker car. Yes,as much l love my Pontiacs and such back then, these Spirit R/T's were an ultimate sleeper machine, mouse fur interior and all...and l do love your no filter commentary, makes me laugh 'cause it's outspokenly honest and funny. Thanks again for another great video. On to the next.😊😊

Great video bill as usual and thank you Andy for allowing him to review the car. I love these type of rare sleeper cars of that era. In 86 I bought a brand new Toyota 4x4 pickup that was turbocharged it had 135 horse and for a four-wheel drive pickup it was pretty quick. But nothing like that I looked down at your speedometer and I'm sure Peter's neighbors love you you're doing 70 miles an hour in about 6 seconds. Again great video you should have been a radio disc jockey in the 90s or even today you've got the voice for it and I'm jealous of your command of language . Your friend equally hating the Florida weather but maybe one month out of the year , Rick White

I'm pretty damn well-versed on late 80's and 90's cars -- particularly those with 4 & 6 cylinders that could be had with manual transmissions -- and this is the first I've EVER heard of this 224hp turbo 4 FWD sedan. I'm far more interested in Japanese cars, and one of the reasons for that is because those are the kind of numbers that would typically be put up by a Japanese car. Pretty cool shit.

Yeah that's definitely one rare cool car!! Makes a huge difference with a short throw stick compared ones like those taurus sho, beretta gt 2.8,, my 91 sunbird black 2door had a shorter throw to it and was agressive 5spd 3.1 just straight out mean when you wanted it and easy enough in traffic, truly fun car! Great video!!

I had the gutless LE version, 1989, but I really liked that car. Great visibility to the sides and rear from the driver's seat, full 6-pack of gauges, very comfortable seats, looked like a far more expensive car than it was. Super-easy to work on, super-cheap to own, very reliable. I factory-ordered my Spirit and bought a package that included power windows, power locks, and air conditioning.

Makes your videos much more soothing to watch. Also great to hear disparaging comments about Dalton, I feel like I hadn’t heard those much lately, which makes me sad. Anyway, Have a great weekend Bill!!!!! Also, GoPros Suck. Fuck whoever told you to use that.

Damn. When my parents' 1991 Spirit died (in about 1997), I was pretty sure I'd never see another one. I didn't even know Chrysler put out a turbo R/T version. I do remember that they paid extra for some kind of gold-paint trim package. Nice find, and great work as always. And if you ever find a 1970 Maverick, I will be on the first plane to Naples.

The weird "Front Drive" text behind the window on the dash was a cost cutting measure in manual & console shift auto Acclaim/Spirit. In column shift cars that's where you'd find the prindle indicator. I've wanted one of these spirit r/t forever but the timing just never worked out. There was a Red one in my local u-pull-it yard in the late 90s.

as a kid, my broke ass grew up in the back seat of practically every K-car based POS that chrysler put out. my dad would find the cheapest most beat to shit bucket of bolts he could find, drive it until the head gasket blew or the transmission fell out of it, haul it to the recycler and go find another one. fun times!

I grew up in the back seat of many Dodge Dart’s, from the 70’s, usually get 1 or rarely 2 winters before the torsion bars would break from rust. Oddly enough : MoPar was the cheapest of the three back then

If your lucky enough to get a mid to late 80s Chrysler Conquest or an 86-88 Volkswagen Scirocco 16 V/ early- mid 90s Corrado, that would be a nice car to do a story on.

I could be wrong, but I think the "Front Drive" under the gauges is just there to block the hole where the gear shift indicator would be on an automatic Spirit. They probably didn't have anything better to put there so they decided to make sure to remind you the car is FWD.
