Eighteen years ago, my father bought a very rare and special Jaguar E-Type. Thirteen years ago, he sold it. It disappeared off, never to be seen again... until today.

Jay, that is a fantastic story, thanks for sharing that with us. I too have been to this place, and what a place! The day I visited I spotted a total of SIX XJ220's . SIX, in the same building! Not to mention D and E Types being built just as you say .. to order, by Jaguar, to every detail. The collection area you're seen in there is truly a treasure trove of British Automotive Engineering. The E Type is without doubt one of our greatest contributions to the history of the automotive industry. Once again, thanks for letting us in on your reunion with the car of your past, it must have been quite emotional when you first saw her again.

I, uncharacteristically, refrained from commenting last time when you said the E Type styling was odd. But now you’ve double-downed on it I feel compelled to point out one little thing. All things are subjective, obviously. And Your Mileage May Differ and all that. AND thirdly, Each To Their Own. But the thing I’m pointing out is ... you’re wrong. The E Type is f***ing gorgeous and I don’t care where the wheels are. ;) Good series of vids recently btw.

James, Having grown up with a Dad who had an E -Type in the garage for many years. This video is a nice trip down memory lane. As an impressionable car mad lad, the series 1 seemed like a rocket ship back then. It shows how strong the performance was tin the 1960’s as it was faster than lots of hi-performance cars in the 1980’s. I’d love to see more classic car content especially from Jaguar classic.

Lovely car. My dad used to have a hotel in the Isle of Man. A regular guest used to stay every year for the TT and MGP motorcycle races and turned up in 1962 in a brand new Sherwood Green E type coupe, reg OWT 7. I was 11 at the time. He took me to watch the TT races in the Jag - everywhere we stopped a crowd would gather around the car. It may as well have been a Martian spaceship for the reaction it received. We were at Creg-ny-Baa on the mountain part of the circuit and were the first car to join the circuit after the roads open car passed....120mph+ in front of all the crowds back into Douglas, many waving and cheering. Happy memories!

A real treat, a great story. I agree about the inset wheels, but many sports cars of the era were like that, e.g., Alfa Romeo Disco Volante. It looks to me as if this one may have a somewhat wider rear track than the standard car. I note it's also been upgraded to an alternator from the original (and very much undynamic!) dynamo.

from what I know, the series 1.5 had early rear lights, above the bumper, and open front headlights, without the glass covers. inside the dash switches were rocker type, like in the xj6. it would appear, that your car is a series 1. with closed front lights, and toggle type dashboard. nice car..

Hi James, thats a Series 1 and not a 1.5, differences are Series 1 had enclosed headlights, dash toggle switches and winged knock offs on the wire wheels, the Series 1.5 had open headlights, rocker switches and the knock offs had no wings but a key you placed over them to hit to get them off. The way to open the boot hatch if I remember rightly is a lever that is circular with a section cut out behind the drivers seat. Oh and the thing under the bonnet you called a filter is the heater.......OMG I'm such an anorak 🤦‍♂️😂. On a positive, I'm with your Dad, I think the grey interior choice really sets it off nicely.

Well you were promising something special, I too grew up with a lot of jaguars and daimlars around me, they are the brand that turned me into a petrol head... I hope Jaguar do let you drive this, it would be great just for history if nothing else. I have restored many jags. As a young boy, involved in servicing unmarked mk2 police jaguars, s-types... heaps of different cars....all in this 60's early 70's period... 1930's lagondas, Alvis...Aston.... I even used to go to school in a Mk9... I suspect one day I might end up with a current Bentley....( flying spur) if only to give me that blend of old and new....that car really moved me...when I saw it this year...

Amazing story. One small point, you say the car wears a 1965 number plate. Actually, C is 1965, D is 1966 so all good there. And for what it's worth, I love the grey interior, really suits the car and makes it so much airier. Sure, it may not be original but it's been there for so many years it's now part of the car's history. I love the way the interior light is above the central instrument panel, never realised that before.

Brilliant story and history of this E-Type. I never knew Coombs modified an E-Type. They were more famous for the Coombs Mk2 Jaguars. This is definitely a Series 1 (not 1.5). The Series 1.5s had open headlights and were built from 1967-68. It was the interior and dash that were changed between the 3.8 and 4.2 Series 1s, among other things.

JayEmm on Cars Suffix letters were first used in 1963 (A), and, at first they ran from Jan 1 until Dec 30. Motor traders then complained that the system was creating abnormal sales demands in December and January. The government then changed the system in such a way that the suffix would change after August 1967 to run from August to August. It was so soon after the registration of your Dad’s car that I can quite see where misunderstanding would come from. Actually, all the government succeeded in doing was moving the bottleneck to August! I am absolutely certain about the changes. Keep up your excellent work (may I call it that?!) reviewing very interesting and often unusual cars.

Hope you figure out where reverse is on a Moss gearbox before you take it out on the road! I'll give you a clue for starters - it's over to the left, the rest you'll have to work out for yourself ;-)

Yes a i didnt like the way the e type wheels sat to far in under the arches and because its a long tubular car design it made the stance look wierd,i think manufacture speed eagle took the good elements of the car and and adressed all the bad one and made what is truly one of the best looking cars you can buy, thats if you have the money 😊

Classic car dashboards are so much nicer than modern dashboards. Really simple and classic looking. They are much nicer to be in at night because there aren't many lights on the dashboard so it's nice and dark. I have alaso always much rathered the old fashioned dials and clocks, they are far more legible than modern clocks. Also what's up with the Jaguar with crap stuck to it?

im guessing it is some movie prop or experiment carried out for some obsurd reason, i am wondering myself though what that odd jag is with a semi taped over bonnet.
