A short compilation of leg grab variation of Sode Tsurikomi Goshi, which in my opinion, was one of the coolest looking throws before the ban.

@@kbating5814 they took away a ton of technics from Judo. If you watch any old Judo Fight, you'll see how Judo was fun to watch. Different throws, a pretty good ne waza. I believe that Judo was more dynamic before... Now, in my opinion, it is something dull.

I used to do Kata Guruma alot, and got in the hang of grabbing legs from standing like this as I got further in my judo life. I really miss grabbing legs/ankles/below the belt! It really made judo very challenging

What is shown in the video is the execution of a variant of Sode-Tsurikomi-Goshi... really beautiful and efficient. It really makes me sad to observe that the essence of Judo is slowly being lost.

This technique is known as Maruyama Special. It was the favorite technique of Jōshirō Maruyama's dad. Apparently Israeli Oren Smadja was using this technique in the same period as him, though.

I made it up one day from getting blocked entering Sode My mistake was it was at a camp full of European judoka in Holland training camp, they all stopped and just watched me, I never really made anything of the throw past experimentation and occasional use. They were so hungry for something new!

What the IJF should have done: allow for leg grabs, but only allow one hand below the belt. That way we’d still have awesome throws like this, as well as Kata Guruma and Te Guruma. And this would also remove the mindless rugby tackling we saw around 2008.

Очень крутой бросок и я прекрасно понимаю насколько он может быть опасен для шеи бросаемого. Вообще я очень не сторонник сокращения техники дзюдо, начиная от захватов ног, но этот бросок реально выглядит потрясающе травмоопасным.

Вот скажите , если бросок , движение травмоопасно , что только для дзю-до ? Все броски-движение запрещённые в дзю-до , до сих пор применяются во всех видах борьбы , этот же приём в вольной и самбо применяется по сей день , и никаких травм ! Знаешь в каком спорте больше всех травм , в велоспорте , лёгкой атлетике и т.д. , а дзю-до занимает , по травмам где то предпоследние места ! А может дело в чём то другом ? Заметь , что запрещать стали , то чем , кто то не может владеть , вот проход в ноги -почему запретили , посмотри вольники на ковре что вытворяют , где опасность ? Помнишь , когда борьбу хотели вольную и классику отменить на ОИ ?А теперь возьми и полистай списки ЧМ,ЧЕ, и ОИ ,и посмотри кто доминировал , и куда делись эти доминирующие страны из спортивных списков победителей ? Может своё мнение потом скажешь , по поводу травмоопасности ! Если занимался дзю-до , скажи как часто ты видел травмы у них ? Всего доброго !

As an old judoka from the nineties it breaks my hart what all the rules have done to judo. From all the martial sports is judo the only one that keeps implementing new rules. The founder of Judo, Kano, would turn in his grave.... if he has not already. Everything in life has evolution. Not devolution what the IjF is doing. Por eso el judo 🥋 está teniendo una caída ante el BJJ por que aunque los dos son judo (BJJ inicia con el conde Maeda alumno de Jigoro Kano) a conservado las mayorías de las técnicas sobre todo en la newaza en cambio el judo siguió un camino a mi juicio equivocado quitando técnicas como kata guruma, morote guéri etc etc y desestimulando la lucha en el piso (newaza) todo esto lleva a un arte en su origen muy completo tanto para la defensa personal como para la competencia en un sistema de gymnasia y acrobacias en el aire para no caer de espaldas y evitar un ipon o un wazari y al caer los competidores en vez de luchar en el piso se dedican a ver la pantalla para ver el puntaje el Judo tiene que volver a sus orígenes gracias

Everybody is complaining about the ban, but perhaps there are some people in armchairs that encountered a bad execution of this throw. It would be interesting to add statistics, if any available, about accidents caused by this throw, even if it's obviously quite dangerous and you don't need to wait for an accident to be concerned. I think Jigoro Kano developped Judo as a system of education, not primaly for competition. This is why kani basami is Judo (it is such a logical move in some situations), but can't be used in competition (and even in randori because it's so dangerous for the uke's knees).

Yes, the problem was that the uke did not fall cleanly when the tori did not want it. So there were several serious injuries.

The reason that leg grabs were banned was because everyone went for leg takedowns and judo started to remind too much of freestyle wrestling. Because both judo and freestyle wrestling are olympic sports the IOC pressured judo to change something so the two sports wouldn't look so similar. IJF decided to ban leg grabs which resulted in judo posture becoming much more upright.

It does happen but it is significantly less common and less effective. This is not just because of the elimination of leg grabs but also the stricter head dive rules which prohibit the front flip finishes you see throughout this video
