The average Uyghur people in Xinjiang have much more money than the average Han people. Why? Due to the vast territory and sparse population of Xinjiang, Uyghur people have a large area of land and can easily raise cattle, sheep, or cotton. Due to China's developed infrastructure, these products are easily sold at high prices to Han Chinese areas. So the locals in Xinjiang are very wealthy.

Just came back from Xinjiang few days ago. Was shocked at how developed and clean Xinjiang was. There were many Uighur writings at many areas. Took the train and flight and announcements were made in Uighur language. Saw huge number of expensive cars driven in Urumqi. Xinjiang people stay in nice apartments compare to Gansu. The trip to Xinjiang really opened my eyes.
