Here with this fountain pen purchase, I was able to feed several of my shopping addictions. There is the base level urge to buy shiny things, which this appealed to, but I also like pens, and also fountain pens more specifically. Even more, I like buying demonstrator pens, and at the same time I also like the rainbow accents seen on this pen. That last rainbow addiction is maybe the most recent, as I got a very colorful pen from Gravitas Pens and found out how much I liked that metallic approach.
When I bought this pen I didn't realize that it seems to be some sort of limited edition "Iris" pen, which may not be available anymore, but the regular demonstrator variant should be more widely available.

The plunger pressurizes the ink chamber up until the very end when the chamber itself widens and the motion allows the exchange of air for ink as the sudden pressure change creates a vacuum. I hope that makes sense.

I had to look up the TWSBI name. 'TWSBI's name stands for the phrase "Hall of Three Cultures" or "San Wen Tong" in Chinese. The character "Wen" translates into language and culture. The phrase "San Wen Tong" also brings to mind the Hall of the Three Rare Treasures created by Emperor Qianlong as a memorial to three great masterpieces of Chinese calligraphy. The initials of the phrase "San Wen Tong" was reversed and thus turned into "TWS". The last letters "Bi" was added with its literal meaning of "writing instruments". Thus combining the two segments, creating TWSBI.'

I got that pen in a broad nib in the first batch that TWSBI produced. Love it. Almost got another in fine when they did a new run of them, but ultimately decided not to get a second one. When I had to clean it, I ended up needing to take it apart to actually get it all clean. I haven’t gotten one yet, but TWSBI makes a special vacuum filling ink well. With it you can get it pretty much completely filled with no risk of accidentally shooting ink all over the place when you push the piston down. The other ink wells they sell can use on the TWSBI piston fillers except the Eco and Go to fill the pen without putting the nib down in the ink.

Watch out for this pen Peter, the nib section apparently has a nasty habit of randomly breaking at the threads. According to Reddit, TWSBI customer support are pretty good at sending out a replacement nib section if it does fail and you email them. (Mine broke earlier this week and I found a few posts about the issue on Reddit along with the solution. I’m emailing them to ask about a repair!). I can recommend the matching TWSBI inkwell that screws on to the pen - makes getting the maximum amount of fill really easy! Then you don’t need to refill it for ages!

This is the ink bottle - www.twsbi.com/products/twsbi-vac20-ink-bottle, you screw it on over the nib, hold it so the nib is pointing upwards, and then work the vacuum fill.. hey presto an almost completely full pen!
