I have one escarlote jaboticaba seedling in dappled light under a mango tree. She is doing great. The peeling on the trunk tells me she's happy . I planted her about a year ago and she's about 8 inches. I hope she continues to do well. Had to take her out out the ground and put her back in a pot because the sun and wind was just too much . Saw your tour at flying fox and got some good tips. Thanks for another great video.

We waited about 5 to 8 years or so for our crab apples to set their first fruits worth the wait but ya something that can be fruited quicker is great!

Hey Pete, check this kind of rare jabuticaba called "Cambucá", pronounced cam-boo-kah. The scientific name is Plinia edulis. It's yellow, pretty good.

You're living my dream, Pete! Do you think the Jaboticaba would do well here in the Houston, Galveston area? I guess we are officially 9a zone - hot and humid, but every couple of years a strong cold front will come down and put us below freezing for a day or so.

Definitely in container long term! Worst case scenario it comes in a few nights a year. They can tolerate below freezing for a short period but will loose leaves.

You can sprout them or just plant them in the soil just below surface. They prefer 90% Pete and 10% perlite. Moisture is key

@R H I tell everyone I expect them to be roughly like a lychee cross grape. I found all the different varieties on eBay from sellers in my state and just over the border who shipped in the mail otherwise I wouldn't have access to different varieties either 🙂

I've heard different schools of thought on the best environment and soil to grow Jaboticaba ... full sun / filtered son / shade .... sandy soil / compost dirt / hummus ... what is best? I bought a small tree a couple years ago from your nursery and its struggling in 8+ hours full sun in typical Florida well drained soil. Should I move it or doctor the soil at all? If I could lear how to grow them I would be interested in a larger tree that could fruit in 3 - 5 years. Love your videos BTW -n- Thanks

My 3 jabos do perfectly well in the shade of some cypress trees. I'd say partial shade is good. Edit: they also love organic matter and can tolerate flooding; they're native to the Amazon.

Interesting, and tell us, where did that Anomaly Jaboticaba come from, and who developed it? I bet you are not going to tell us that, are you? I thought that since you cancelled Adam Shafran at Flying Fox Fruits and removed all the videos the two of you did together, you would also cancel all the things you learned from him, get rid of all the plants he gave you, and quit using that knowledge and those plants to make money competing against him. That seems fair and like the right thing to do. But that is not going to happen, is it?

Hello! This video was specific to the scarlet, not the rare anomaly . I love Adam and he has done great things for the jobo world. This is my channel, I can post and remove what I want. No competition here dude, I make a living installing edible Landscapes not breeding or selling plants. Now the plant business is becoming a nice side hustle but there’s plenty of room for more of us. Sorry I can’t unlearn why I’ve been taught, that’s not how this works.
