Hey man, I think it’s crazy the amount of people who use the marvels as main pliers when they aren’t VDE rated (as far as I can tell from the research I’ve done). I love them too but just hate the fact they aren’t rated. Does this effect how/when you use them or do you trust them? Have heard multiple people have accidentally come into contact with live parts and haven’t had an issue.

I had a pair when i started my apprenticeship, and as everyone will do at some point, I cut through a live 2.5mm cable. Blew a decent hole in them, but didn’t feel anything through them. I now use a set of 1000v rated NWS pliers, but they definitely are more chunky. As most of the time we are working with the circuits not hooked up or with the rcd/cb turned off, we don’t really have to worry about the potential shock. My boss still uses them but I found the NWS 225s to be more comfortable in my hand, and the added bonus of them being insulated

@@ryanmackie1484 that’s right, technically we should never be working live so in a perfect world you wouldn’t need VDE tools at all. But as you say, it’s likely we all will cut/touch something live at some point. I also use marvels but it’s always at the back of my mind that they aren’t rated. I’ve heard people mention the only reason they aren’t is because of the lack of thumb stops? Nearly every rated plier I’ve ever seen has those knobs close to the head of the plier.

The Marvel website is pretty good at responding to emails, you could always request an insulated version. In terms of if I trust the Marvel's, I'm really diligent in making sure the circuit I'm working on is dead so I don't worry about it not being VDE rated. However as someone who makes KZbin videos, I'm now experimenting with a bunch of different pliers to help others find the best. ATM I'm using the Wiha Crosscuts as my main but yeah the Marvel's are so much sharper
