At 73, I have watched the dumbing down of America due to the school shootings with dismay. No one, especially children, can learn when they are afraid. But with the USA being the biggest manufacturer and exporter of weapons, bringing trillions into the economy each year, who is going to tighten gun laws when money is absolutely GOD in today's America? RFK Jr is going to add to this dumbing down. Sadly, many countries follow America's lead, especially in healthcare and medical studies. Wow you’re amazing and erudite, thank for recording this. You showed up in my recommended, and as part of the T community in my country that has been the US’s strongest ally with a small population. I know it’s not just the T kid’s whose mental health is suffering because of the constant rhetoric towards us, people who just want to live our authentic lives. Thank you for standing up for all children. I have worked with vulnerable communities/people for 40yrs, started when I was 20, not in the office but out there on the street. Now I support people with mental health issues all adults. One young adult who is Neurodivergent like myself but I only found out at 55. Life would have been a lot easier had I known sooner so I could have been more gentle on myself. I hope Jewel listens and others think about what is happening and finds this video and listen. Empathy and compassion are traits of strength.

I've never bothered to post this anywhere because there was already this carefully constructed story around her so-called beginnings, and because she was just a singer, so, what did it matter? Every time Jewel has popped up since the 90s it's always made me shake my head wondering why she's never been honest about her road to fame. I know for a fact that she went to high school in Anchorage at Stellar Secondary School, she was enrolled there at the same time as friends and family of mine. I still remember when she hit it big, a friend of mine that went to school with her was shocked. She found it funny that the girl who sang Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" over and over (and over and over) during lunch was now a top pop singer. They would have been in school together sometime between 88-91. After Jewel became famous my best friend at the time called to ask if I remembered Jewel? I did not. Until she reminded me about the hostess/waitress at our favorite Thai restaurant, who also happened to be dating the owner, who was a couple years older than us and seemed like a nice guy. That would have been sometime between 1992-1994. But Jewel never mentions living for any amount of time in Anchorage in her teens. Never says she had a steady job and was dating a local restauranteur. I find that so weird. But then, it doesn't fit into the "homesteaders without plumbing", "penniless, living out of her car", rags-to-riches fairytale. And because of this, I would never trust anything that Jewel had to say about...probably anything 😂

I remember reading a magazine article as a teen that said she was homeless before she made it big. It was a "rags to riches" story. Except she is from one o the richest families in Alaska. I didn't find that out until a decade and a half later. Much like any celebrity, her persona is crafted to appeal to us and probably bears little resemblance to who that person really is or what they've lived.
