I think it's mainly that using real fur goes against the film's morals. How can we watch this film and listen to what it's saying when the puppets are literal foxes skin being posed. I think it's maybe fine but using wool could have worked, at least they didn't buy new. I'm also against most taxidermy though as I think it's disrespectful to the animal.

@@oogyboofI think taxidermy when it comes to insects and ethically passed birds is somewhat okay as long as it is treated with respect. Mammals is a bit of a tougher one. If the animal died of natural causes, sure. But usually when an animal dies of natural causes, the pelt wouldn’t be good enough quality to taxidermy. Hunting is definitely an iffy thing, but if the meat is completely used up and then the animal is taxidermied with respect I can somewhat understand that. I don’t understand trophy hunting nor taxidermy when it comes to pets. It just depends on the person.

As a person who dives into vulture culture and taxidermy, I think as long as Wes ethically sourced the animal fur from already existing products/humanely euthanised animals, but also, I haven't really found much online about Anderson using animal fur on his puppets?? Maybe I'm not typing in the right stuff, but even just looking up 'did wes anderson use real animal fur on his puppets for fantastic mr. fox?' comes up with like, just one article.. So maybe he wasn't rlly using animal fur on his puppets?? :(
@ScreamTelehead4 ай бұрын
I agree! He was repurposing things that already existed. He didn’t buy raw fur or anything of the like, he just found things that already existed and gave them new life. I think too many people don’t understand that fur and animal products can be sourced ethically. Yes it was made from real fur but Anderson didn’t actually kill any of the animals. Honestly, it’s likely that fur would have ended up in the trash.

@hotwaterisspicy4 ай бұрын
my question is: was it his idea to use repurposed hair or was it the artists involved that chose this since they are quoted in saying that Wes's decision didnt sit right with them, so they looked at more ethical ways to achieve the look Wes demanded? Bc the way the quote is, it sounds like using used fur was not up to Wes. Wes just wanted the aesthetic.

I think reusing and upcycling animal fur is quite a sustainable choice, not to mention that we are already living in so much plastic, no need to make new when you can reuse some coat, that's eaten by moths or like you said, shaven furs and hair It's not like creators of the movie specifically hunted down some foxes for that (or commissioned so) Taxidermy also exists and can be ethical too, so, idk

I was always under the assumption that those were red grapes on his carton? I've actually never had a purple grape, just green and red, but I suppose the availability of certain varieties is different everywhere. About the sourcing of hair - the way they handled it for the movie sounds very safe, repurposing vintage items is always better than finding new things. The way you found material also sounds like a great solution. I totally get why Wes Anderson would have wanted real animal hair, and I don't think he intended to be harmful, but maybe he could have communicated with his dollmakers more about sourcing so he didn't sound as suspicious, haha! Amazing video as always! They're always so calming, and the artwork is beautiful. Thank you for making one of my favorite characters look so lively and colorful!

I agree with the fur issue, if he repurposed found items like coats I don't see a problem. Only if he was actively hiring hunters to get him fur would there be an ethical issue in my mind. And fun fact, the juice box might show apples as a little wink to grape juice mostly being made with apple juice! Apple juice works really well as a "base" juice, so a lot of "100% Pure Juice" uses it as a base, it helps with flavor of some fruits and to stretch the juice they're making, like grape juice. Pear juice also works like that. They can still call it 100% juice, and "no sugar added", since technically they're not actually wrong lol.

@@SharauniThat’s actually really interesting! I always wondered why a lot of juice cartons would say “100% fresh orange juice” but then you look at ingredients and there’s at least 20% apple juice 😂 I suppose the wording is the loophole, like you said. @abrenn4 ай бұрын
Agreed! Synthetic furs/yarns are also just plastic lmao and when crafting with them you inevitably get it everywhere and it contributes to microplastic pollution (as well as the energy/resources it takes to make the fibers, like i doubt they're using solar panels at their factories lol) Which isn't to say there arent more ethical ways to use synthetic fibers, like buying second hand or harvesting it from an old costume, just that there's ethical dilemmas any which way you do it. And whichever one is Most Correct is gonna depend on who you ask. The same can be said for if it's even something an individual should feel responsible for in the first place. (edit: At the end of the day? Real fur/leather/etc is always biodegradable.)
@ghoultooth4 ай бұрын
Exactly. Pre-existing fur and pelts is completely fine, especially if sourced ethically (from natural deaths). Farming for fur and killing for fur is an absolute no-no.
@Twiddle_things4 ай бұрын
@@ghoultooth I'd like to add that I think sourcing fur from euthanised animals is OK. For example if the animal had a terrible disease and got euthanised, I think it's ok for its fur to be used. No euthanasia for the sake of just using the fur, though. That's just sick

Such a cute doll. owo Also. The Fur thing. Since the Fur was Repurposed from other things instead of being made for this purpose, i see 0 issues with it. They also never went to source new fur if they needed a specific color, they instead used their own hair. There's no harm in it. But regardless of the dilemma. Ethically Sourced Fur is still technically better for the environment compared to Plastic Fibers unfortunately. Cheap Plastic Fibers aren't Biodegradable, which just adds to the Harm of the Planet, during and after the creation of it, but not everyone has the money to buy the Safe, Biodegradable Plastic Fibers, so, this will always happen. I digress. Repurposed Fur is always a good thing imo, because it already happened and no new animal was harmed for the project, along with no plastic fibers that are bad for the environment and peoples lungs when loose fibers fly around were being used either.

on the ethical-ness of using real fur, i think it's alright so long as no new animals had to die for the project and they were getting their fur from older garments. I've seen some fur clothing come back into style because it was someone's grandma's fur coat or it was being sold at a thrift store, and i think reusing old fur garments instead of making new ones is the better alternative. I still think there are way better alternatives to that (like wool and such) but i'd rather have someone reuse an old fur garment than toss it away. Synthetic fibers also aren't great for the environment so reusing older fur instead of getting synthetic is more of the eco-friendly option. (also just a side note if someone tries to sell you "vegan" leather or fur, that's just plastic. there are some plant based leathers but they market as plant-based not vegan. you're better off reusing older leather or fur because that can naturally breakdown and wont be polluting the earth for 1000+ years)

Etellan! This video was wonderful, so much hard work, patience & time, that definitely did not go un-noticed or un-appreciated! The final product of Ash & all of his little props and poses was incredible!, it's one of my favourite films & you did such a great job - your work is always done with such love & care! I really hope you are doing well. 💖

The second I saw the thumbnail, I had the Boggis Bunce & Bean song running through my head. Beautiful work! Ash is one of my favorites and I always get a kick out of his little bandit hat.

If you notice in her older videos she was much more soft spoken and we barely saw her face so it makes me really happy seeing her being more and more confident and showing her lovely face more :))
