This is what I've learnt from the deck building section: - Divide the cards by their functions, not their types (Mons, S/T). We have combo starter, extender, defensive, and Garnet lol. - Combo starters idealy should be about 11-14 cards (the closer to 14 the better). - Extenders should be about 11-14 too, depends on the starters. - Defensive is upon your choice, but searchable defensive is much more preferable than non-searchable one (Shark Cannon vs Nibiru). - Garnet is Garnet lmao. - Placeholder card: mainly Upstart Goblin, a true placeholder when it doesn't do anything except thinning the deck, makes the deck becomes 39 cards (Pot of Greed, however, is under combo starter / extender category. Same as Dark World Dealings and other cards imo.) Besides their main fuctions, it is better to have them cross-functioning, like with 2 extenders, we can make them become combo starter, in that case, they will be called pseudo-starter. Also, combo starters that can boom in mid and late game are also much more preferable (Raye is a great example in this deck since she can be used at anytime drawn. Speedroid Terrotop in BA, although its a combo starter, but is not a boomer since we don't really want to see it late game.)

Finished the whole thing. The main takeaways I got in note form: Pareto principle applies to YGO, deck building and technical play play the biggest part in deciding who wins (no surprise). Use cards that fill many roles and are flexible (good across the board). Side heavily when you need to side in order to be able to play the game. Side sparingly otherwise. Only side when it is important. This way you do not overside. *Example:* if you autolose to mystic mine, side as much stuff as you can to beat mystic mine. If you have a bad but winnable matchup vs Orcust, side moderately and wisely. 3 - 6 cards. If you have an even or good matchup against Zombies, don't side at all or if you do, side only the most important thing to win. That matchup is not worth the extra effort and loss to consistency to side specifically for. If a deck bricks in a way that could cost it a game more than 1/16 to 1/20 times (5% of the time or more) you should probably consider another deck (since there is a chance it will brick on you day 1 of an event and knock you out). You want your deck's brick rate below 5% to even be viable at a major event. When you're Dueling, Represent what you do not have. Don't represent what you do have. This is to throw your opponent off. Don't 'oversell' (try too hard to convince your opponent you have something you don't or don't have something you do) or your opponent will catch on to the obvious deception. *AKA practice poker mind games, specifically hiding your tells and bluffing convincingly.*

Notes from what I gathered: Disclaimer: I have read the book. Do not read if you wanna see the video for yourself first. DECKBUILDING: The explanation of card roles in detail has helped me because I have trouble looking at a card and identifying its role given the specific deck. My only question for this segment is, is determining card roles up to interpretation given the deck/format? (My question was kinda answered when he was the difficulty of identifying card roles) Chicken Game used to be in the “place holder” role... but that’s banned lol. Would cards in the extra deck possess a specific card role regarding deckbuilding? Such as engine cards, re-raise ceiling, defense, etc...? Are card roles important to consider when side decking such as replacing a card of one role for a card with the same role? WOW you kinda answered my question lmao (I am typing this as the video is playing). I appreciate what you concluded the deckbuilding portion with a lot. THEORY/REPORT: (I’ll be revisiting the “why” later) The How/What chart is very insightful. Aligns very well with what was discussed in the book. I am very impressed by how you approach the tournament report. Thought I may not agree with how you categorized each of the rounds (it was only a few of them, and that’s cause it fits more than one of those categories, which you kinda glossed over some of them) Currently noticing that most games on the graph are attributed to deckbuilding, but there are still some emphasis on tech play, the mental game, and metagaming. That puts things more into perspective for me. Chart Finalized: Deckbuilding: 19 Tech play: 10 Metagaming: 5 Mind games: 3 Bad luck games were not quantified? (I’ll look back through it after posting this to quantify it) I feel that’s important to bring up. Real data being used, which is great supporting points for what he says. Nice transition into the Pareto idea discussed in the book. I think you shoulda discussed “Pareto’s Deck” in the deckbuilding section more because I find that a little hard to grasp (readings over it multiple times). Good points on choosing a deck based on it qualities, which you did touch on earlier in the video. Using checklists, which you are kinda using, is very efficient in keeping track of all aspects to influence your success in a tourney/format. You rehashed these well. That 40 card:8 hands method is unique, but are you not replacing the cards you draw for each subsequent hand? I feel like that isn’t too great of a practice to follow regarding determining hand quality due to statistical reasons. (Unless you pretend they’re in the deck still) I’ll review the double heritage draw hand after posting to try and see it, I’m getting a bit weary myself cuz it’s late haha. (If somebody hasn’t already done it) Good talking about all the possibilities of how the deck operates (which can be said about most decks that are competitive level). The going first and second comment helps ALOT I’ve been torn between building certain strategies for going first and second. Specifically for Salamangreat earlier this year. Even giving true draco insight in this video. Johnny and his support systems are goats. I know you may not have the time to read, see, nor respond to the questions in this comment. Ultimately, thank you for taking your time and people like yourself keeps me wanting to eventually play irl and excel like you and others that has inspired me. Great video and contribution for the community and thank you Cimoooo for posting the content. Now onto my “Why” which can hopefully develop your “why” as well: I’ve been playing the game online since (whenever evilswarms first became good, my first main deck at age 13), and seldom I come across real players for both financial and schooling reasons, resorting to online to quench my thirst for the competitive game I quickly sought after at a young age. People like yourself and Hoban heavily inspired not only my strive for knowledge in yugioh but has also helped me grow my mindset in other aspects in my life. I don’t strive to win games nor events when attempting to grow at the game. I grow as a competitive player to grow the community as well. In the near future, I hope I get to run into you (Johnny) and an event and hopefully have a chance to play some goat games with you or something (more in P.S.). My grammar is hella off. I’m mainly referring to Johnny Li in this post but hopefully others have more questions to ask and we should all be discussing our own questions in the comments because that’s truly a way to grow. (P.S. idk if you use YGOPRO often, but if you do use YGOPRO under your Slashtap username, then I maybe have dueled you a few times in goat format, we played around 3+ games and I was probably one of the few to “pro Storm” you. But that’s hard to verify cuz anyone can use any name up there lol.)

Educational but it needs to be explained using multiple decks so it sinks in a bit better. What decks have what ratios of these card types. I think starters need to be explained a bit more. Please break down everything he said and make a video series?

How is he pretentious? I didn't notice
@Myron_The_Slavicwolf5 жыл бұрын
@@sagumosageyo943 he spends the entire video talking about his long winded explanation for what it means to be a competitive player. It's a turn off for competitive players because the only take aways are the card roles and the "technical plays" which shouldn't really matter because he acts like what's possible and what actually happens in a game will always be the same, which is clearly not the case. This didn't need to be 2 hours long

Define hard normal summon. Cards that's don't special summon themselves? Or just cards that have an on normal summon effect?

For everyone who thinks he sounds pretentious or condescending I'd like to point out that he is literally better than you. Your mechanic can talk down to you. He knows more than you. Maybe shut up and learn.
