It amazes me how 1 person can be very detailed with their layout and yet model railroad clubs with half dozen or so people building it can't come close to the details.
@JamesWillmus5 ай бұрын
That's because with clubs you end up with the average of what the members bring to the table. Out club layout has a very 1970's-80's look to the scenery and details because that's the era in which the bulk of the members learned their skills. Us younger guys have a keener eye for details, but lack a lot of skills because you can just go out and purchase stuff to fill a need. My own specialty is benchwork, trackwork, and wiring.

@@JamesWillmus This is the type of detail Im talking about. It can be done with cities as or scenery. Its just the level of detail that went into this that is amazing kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4GrcoamgMyFqrM

Seems like you can tell which clubs focus on operations and which ones focus on details as well. Kinda depends on the focus of the club as well. @@JamesWillmus

Thank you Jimmy for adding my layout to your video. Thank you also for not being a gatekeeper of the hobby. I always enjoy watching your videos. I don't have a favorite coffee, I like it all; the wife prefers Maxwell House.

Great video. I appreciate all of the virtual RR tours as I think they inspire more people of all skill levels, eras, scales, and locales to get out and get creative. Maybe twice a month?

Just wanted to say I loved the sci-fi railroad and the small layouts that fit in suitcases. Again, you don't need a lot of space to run trains.

Having worked with the people who made the Original Star Trek series, and also my being the VFX Supervisor on the web series STAR TREK PHASE II, there was very little kitbashing on TOS. The 11-foot Enterprise filming model was totally scratchbuilt. Only the Botany Bay in SPACE SEED and possibly the K-7 Space Station had any kitbashing, and maybe a few other one-off models. Love your channel!

I'm very jealous of you! My favorite episodes as a kid were TNG Best of Both Worlds part 1 and 2. After seeing how they kitbashed the fleet ships including the infamous highlighter pods on the New Orleans class, I was hooked on models.

@@DIYDigitalRailroad I do know that they used the small AMT model kits of the Enterprise to represent the Constellation in DOOMSDAY MACHINE, and they had one visible out the window of Space Station K7 in THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES.

For those that do not have the space, money, talent, time and desire to build a layout, there is a great game, available early access on steam for your computer, called Railroader. Basically a model of a shortline railroad in Western North Carolina at the changeover from steam to diesel. I have been playing the game for 461 hours and it is fun! Cheap at $29.99!

Sadly, I'll be leasing part of a home for a short while(I hope a short while). I'm thinking of building with the thought of 'modular' mindset. Great video to give me some ideas. I have SO MUCH track in HO and N. (a good problem). Just got into Digital in 2023. Had to drop the hobby for a while. Can't wait to get back 'on board'. LOL.

I haven't typically responded in the past. It's a lot to keep up with. I would like to figure out a system to do that though.
