what I love most about players like Vince, Steve Wariner etc is how effortless their pocket is. They might not be as flashy as someone like Brent Mason or Brad Paisley but they just lock in and flow. (thought I love me some Mason and Pasiley as well.) Have you done any of Andy Woods chicken picking yet?

I'd love to be able to effortlessly play through changes in a country 'twanging' style like that of Vince Gill or Brad Paisley. I have some small degree of music theory knowledge, but it's not extensive and to be honest, I'm actually not sure what goes into creating the quintessential country sound. I'm certainly hearing lots of outlining of chord tones and blues touches, but there's also what seems like a strong emphasis on using open strings and chromaticism as well. I'm just not sure how far I can take this stuff with my limited music theory knowledge.

well aside from the obvious (paid) option of my Amazon best selling country guitar books!!! I've transcribed and taught over 80 Brent Mason solos on KZbin, learning all of those will get it in your ears and fingers. Remember, your ear it ALWAYS more important than your brain
