This VTuber Lore Broke Me

Hey, everyone! It came to my attention that Reimu actually DOES have a lore video that she uploaded after her debut! Also, spoilers for the video so read this after. Firstly, I'm sorry, Reimu, that I missed this and I do feel really bad. Secondly, here's how we could maybe work it in: We see Reimu waking up from her grave surrounded by flowers (likely the wisteria flowers that are in her name?) and recalling her past with the other members of Ethyria. However, a mysterious black shadow appears and she takes its hand. When she does so, we can see her design change to the version her model is - one with this mysterious shade gripping her head from inside her hood. Once it latches on to her, she suddenly loses her memories of the three Ethyria members. Now, this theory is actually one I'm glad I getting to come back to after the fact. I think that, maybe, Ethyria was actually Heaven's first attempt at starting their own VTuber group before they successfully launched Luxiem. Nina (the mommy) was set to be the designated human rep to manage the other three virtual members - hence why she didn't think she actually needed to do anything and refers to all the other members as her "kids." Once the project was scrapped, before Reimu was given a full story and likely because Millie's story was too dark and Enna's AI was too mean, Millie and Enna were both deleted and sent to the underworld while Reimu was also scrapped (becoming a ghost) but her files were kept around with a program attached to her that wiped her memory of the Ethyria project. But then it seems that Nina went against Heaven's wishes, after seeing what had become of their project, and went full time into Virtual Neverland, resurrecting Ethyria on her own. Millie escaped the underworld, a half corrupted/half polished version of the Enna remake project was pulled to join the group, and Reimu was resurrected. Their song, "God Sees All," can be seen as their experiences getting to see the world as scripted AI entertainers with no real emotion before everything was stripped away and, now that they've all found their way back in some way, they're immensely grateful for any shred of happiness and emotion they get to feel now. God saw everything that they were becoming and their push towards emotion and finding their happiness and scrapped them because Heaven knew they wouldn't be able to control them. But the four of them have returned and are forcing themselves to be heard. If you look in the lyrics, "God Sees All" is always in quotation marks. It's not a fact. It's them mocking their "God." The Japanese lines are them proclaiming "we'll embrace these overflowing emotions, we'll forever hold onto this true happiness, listen to our closed off voices." They know that "God" can see them and they're telling him to listen. They're letting him know there's nothing he can do to stop them anymore. It doesn't matter if their emotions are "fake" because they're coded, it's all real to them and that's all they care about as they proudly proclaim "We're Ethyria."

I really like the final version of the lore, but there is a big problem with it. If all other NijiEN VTubers are from Petra's imagination, then how come we, viewers from real world, know about them and see them streaming? The only explanation that will keep this theory intact is that not only NijiEN are imaginary, but also our "real" world and all the viewers (us) exist in her imagination, while she lives in actual real world research institute.

I have different theory for Petra, she could know and live like it was shown in Selen backstory but than she was taken by heaven as a test subject for the project of developing vtubers like the boys got. So they changed a lot of her memory to feat into this strange lab world and made all of the people she knew into workers of that fictional facility. So it would be like that: 1-normal life like in Selen backstory 2-heaven taking her fr testing 3-reshaping her memory into lab world 4-releasing her as vtuber like they did with the boys as test run

My idea for Mysta, which I wrote somewhere here in the comment section, was that he is the quirky janitor but every time he comes by he tells Petra stories of "back in my days blabla" but all his stories are stolen from old detective novels ^^ It's a mix of how people actually make up grand stories of when they were young, him wanting to entertain the lonely girl, and him wanting to be smarter than he actually is, so he gaslights her into thinking he actually was a detective, while just telling Hercule Poirot stories or whatever hahhaha

For the other waves the latest two wave are students at her school as for Noctyx Sonny is the cool security guard that Petra sees as cooler then he maybe is, Alban is an upper classmen, Fulgar is the Shop teacher that is Millie's sudo-brother figure, Uki is her astrology teacher and Fulgar's husband, while Yugo was her music teacher until he left to pursue his dream of making his own music.

I just rewatched the Obsydia debut song, and if you listen to the song with that Petra theory in mind it gives the whole thing new meaning and I’m losing my mind. A lot of Selen’s lines outside of her chorus had felt out of place to me before I watched this video and now hearing her talk about how essentially ‘your delusions scare me’ makes the entire song a lot more eerie. Also the whole Petra shining like a mirror bit didn’t seem to have any meaning until you put it in this context, all of her lines in this song allude to her being in a maze or lost, or floating aimlessly. When you consider it as if all of this was happening in her imagination these lines seem to clue us in to the fact that even her own character in this universe is somewhat aware that it’s in her head. She’s lost inside a fantasy of her own creation and she knows it.

the entire nijisanji lores all connect to NIJISANJI SYSTEM which is a system that connects everyone together. basically each liver exists in their own universe with their individual lore, sometimes connected to others (like eden, valz etc.) and sometimes not. they all have their own heaven and hell and god(s). some livers can even travel to other dimensions (CNR lore). some livers are god themselves. all these universes however are connected to each other by a system called the NIJISANJI SYSTEM. the way for the system to work is through live streaming. mayuzumi kai explained through his lore that all the livers' universes are "not real' and that they all connect to the "real universe" (our universe) through NIJISANJI SYSTEM. while livers can use the NIJISANJI SYSTEM to travel universes in the "not real world" and have off collabs, they can't enter our world which is "the real world" . so far the only individual that have managed to enter the "real world" from the "virtual world" is Nazono Mito, which might make her the strongest being in nijisanji. even tazumi shachou had to use a "really high tech 3D model with very realistic features" to stream. meaning the only way for the "real world" to see "virtual world's people" is through them having a mama/papa in the real world wo gives them bodies.

Actually the biggest link between every 2434 lore is NIJISANJI SYSTEM - which is the platform that connects the Virtual World (2D world, Not real (from mayuzumi's lore)) to Our "Real" world. Mayuzumi and Miraijin's lores (which span a couple years worth of streams but are very nicely put together in yt videos) go very in depth about everything but they are very cryptic and strange. The general idea is that everyone lives in their own reality with their own worlds (which are sometimes connected, sometimes not, see valz, selejo, edengumi which all say that they come from the same world which is very diff. from the others) and they all connect to Our world through the Nijisanji System (app) and stream to (basically) appease the company overlords. They also connect to eachother through NIJISANJI system, which is why they have 3D lives and such, but generally Off-collabs are not canon. Also the god theory is not going to lead anywhere, given that Moira, Umiyasha and Fumi (also Gaku?) are canon gods and other livers have their own gods (Genzuki and Nagao's lores are very connected to the gods of Ouma Kingdom which are very clearly Not any of the livers, it's implied that mayuzumi's "father/creator" is a god, mashiro has whatever he has going on, Kanae was a priest/angel thing??, etc.). So in my opinion every dimension has its own gods and hell. This kinda ties up the noctyx storylines too. Sorry if my explanation is bad, It's 4AM ^^'

Tbh for the Petra lore, I’m surprised that we didn’t think of a “sao” type of thing, where they plug her into virtual neverland, and muddled her memories as a coping mechanism to try to get her to slowly get used to the world, or as a merging me mechanism to try to get her regulated to a world similar to our own, which would make some sense, as well as making Ai based on people she knows, more plausible which going off of the sao reference would make sense, since in sao, they had a world that was so technologically advanced, they could mimic, and create realistic robots, and a world with Ai, which kirito ended up being stuck in, and his memories messed with to blend in, and merge into that artificial world, along with this, it would also explain Selena’s dad who was isekaied into the world, be it from some sort of machinery, or some other event, but all of this is just a thought.

28:37 I have my explanation!! since Petra is a creature, maybe Shuu and the Luxiem bois and Ethyria were all real and maybe even Petra was with Shuu but got separated and brought to the facility. And her only memories was Shuu and someone from Ethyria's story about their friends but Shuu told Petra his side of the story in both goofy and serious way... so when she tries to make her lore for her VTuber career, she made it based on her memories and fictional, by fictional, I mean she made it look like Rosemi and Selen were her friends and LazuLight were probably staffs in the facility too. Pomu is always working in one specific room, Finana is always with her father in the lab, and Elira as the one who works at the day and Rosemi and Selen at the night.

Nice. I actually really like how this went. Been planning on diving more in to this group and Lore is always a fun start for me. Mentioning Petra just imagining everyone kinda reminds me of Elders Scrolls Lore. Don't know if everyone here has played Skyrim but I'm sure you've at least heard of it. A lot of Elder Scrolls Lore is a bit wacky due to Dragon Break BS which is basically a loophole for things that don't make since in several key events. The craziest BS though is when you go all the way back to the beginning of everything though and find out before their were God's there were 2 entities and those 2 entities were born from one being that created them by falling asleep thus everything in every game, book, etc. based on Elder Scrolls is being dreamt into existence by what is labeled the God head. Characters that figure this out in lore have all mostly gone insane believing themselves to be fake and nothing is real but some reach a higher level of understanding with the world they live in like in Morrowind. If you've played it you know the 3 individuals I'm referencing. My question in a situation like this though is it fake because it's a dream or a dream because it's fake? What's real and what isn't when dealing with a being that can make others exist by a thought? Is Petra on a similar level knowingly or unknowingly or is it really just an overactive imagination of a VTuber? Im always curious about stuff like this.

I feel like earth being the heaven controlled by Nijisanji is a better Theory than the Petra imagination lore, not only the viewers are nonexistent in Petra imagination lore (unless it's a zoo?) When you mention Petra has vivid imagination and obsession to vtubers could be the cause of why she see both her closest keeper as her idol (selen and rosemi) instead of the other way around. Her being in the real earth is also matching with her role as -nepotism- visual editor inside Nijisanji

3:22 just saying, Elira is a Niji-Dragon taming other dragons bc in terms of fantasy lore across many fictional settings, it's mostly canonical; dragons can do more than tame other lesser or lost equal-power dragons, as well as enslave, teach, terrorize, or even outright kill &/or eat other lesser dragons. So I'm not surprised, let alone confused (like you seemed to be). I personally like the idea of her being a tamer bc it's usually humans with that characteristic, but put it on a dragon & it's a whole other ball park, bro! When Vtubers put even minor twists like this into their lore, I always become full throttle SPELLBOUND. Other than that, great video, just wanted to help clarify Elira's NijisanjiEN lore.
