Strange you didn't mention Blade Ward or Warding Bond with this as both will reduce 50% damage from slash/pierce/blunt damage and Warding Bond reduce all damage by 50%. This applies before any DR and so with 12 DR from arcane ward + 3 DR from heavy armour master + 2 DR from heavy armour = 17 DR. With Blade Ward on top that means an enemy needs to hit you for 36 damage to cause 1 damage, obviously reducing as you lose arcane wards

Challenge: do your best making a melee wizard for sustained melee, only using a single class dip. Cleric: can give a wizard heavy armour and good spells like command, nature cleric also gives shalleighlah which would scale with wizards int stat. Barbarian: gives a wizard martial weapon proficiency, shields, medium armour and rage. Con proficiency is also nice for extra unarmoured defence instead of casting mage armour. Monk: let's wizard attack with dexterity on all non-twohanded weapons with a bonus action unarmed strike... Not much else. Rogue: Sneak attack and expertise and long and short swords. dual short swords and use main action in place of bonus action for creating advantage to proc sneak attack. Fighter: con proficiency, fighting style, all weapon and armour proficiency, bonus action heal... Not much else. Druid: better spells than cleric for moving about, shalleighlah ditto nature cleric, probably best precombat buff. Paladin: As starting class, has the best load out for early game ac. Niche case made for oath of ancients for 3 turn bless once per short rest with healing radiance + whispering promise? Slightly better than of fighters second wind. Bard: weak as piss... Rapiers? Yay? Maybe on a githyanki wizard with the heroism spell for 5 temp hp per round... If concentration is maintained, might be slightly more survival in melee depending on race options. Sorcerer: dragon sorcerer is the only one worth bothering with natural ac... Basically always on mage armour and con proficiency if first class. Shield as always prepared spell might offer slightly better survivability. Warlock: temp hp on kill, and agathys. It's... Meh? I mean warlock slot could power shield once per short rest. Hellish rebuke might have a niche?

Try this with Spiked Garb armor and Swires Sledboard. You can get both of these early act 3. You'll get hit more (more damage with Agathys) and take less when you do get hit. My Abjuration Wiz/Sorc/Cleric/Warlock doesn't attack very often but all enemies get a chance to hit me. Also drop the heavy armor feat and get Alert. Equip the awarenesas bow and then Hell Rider Longbow. You an use the Sentinel Shield until you get the Swires. I get them wet, hit Boots of Speed, and run around them all.

@@Chris_the_Nerd Yes...but when you have a 15 AC you're going to get hit. I would say half the mobs hit you. You don't use the boots every turn. Only if you need the extra movement so everyone has an attempt to proc. You can use them after you have already moved and gotten opportunity attacks but have no movememnt. Just have to be smart.

Think that works well when you have more levels of Abjuration Wizard, but not on 6 levels. This build is more about not getting hit, but if you do then you have retaliation damage. With only 6 levels Abj Wizard, that's gonna vanish pretty quick if you get hit too often

Alternative. Instead of Fighter, Tempest Cleric. Lightning reaction, and cast create water on enemies. It also gives you level 3 spell slots. But no constitution prof.

You wouldn't get Con prof or fighting style. However, if you did go with Cleric then take sanctuary and if you get beat down you just cast sanctuary to then build your arcane ward back up, using the remove armour method, and then get back in the fight. Would make for loooong fights but you are then actually indestructible

I've seen a few builds from this channel so far, and they all look like real fun. Until you realise that the builds dont play out like he shows you, and he probably has a modded campaign where spells dont consume spell slots. You probably cant even do half the stuff he shows in his clips...

@@DarkStelios yeah its modded. even then, the gameplay showcases are usually either 1) level 4-5 fighting level 1-2 encounters or 2) level 12 and the game is over anyway and every character is super strong at this point. I agree very fun looking builds, but hard to trust

Question: Since you re only getting Fighter for the Heavy armor + Shield + All Weapons, why not get War Cleric that also gives 3 bonus action attacks/long rest and spell slot? Sounds more useful for just an 1 LV dip.

Problem with Fiend is that as soon as you kill an opponent, the Dark One's Blessing activates and turns off your Armor of Agathys. Any way around that? Wouldn't Great Old One be a better patron if you are using that spell?

failed to mention that armor of shadows can only be used once per long rest, so once you lose the arcane ward stacks granted by those you won't be able to replace those until a long rest unless using some other abujuration spells so it sort of makes it useless and better to stick with wizard in my opinion, cool build though.

It literally so wild I fought Orin in a 1v1 with a dark urge origin with this build and she killed herself off the fire and arcane shield my only issue fight wise was in the murder tribunal if you fight the urge the guy (forgot his name) has sanctuary which negates your shield damage

It doesn't matter all that much though as barely anything will hit you in darkness and with con save from fighter and 16 con, you shouldn't lose con save. You also only need to make a con save when you take damage and with the DR on this build you shouldn't be getting damaged that often. Also, he's only really using spellslots for darkness and with Warlock spells refreshing on short rest you shouldn't be using up all that many spells and you have at least 2 turns to cast darkness pretty regularly

i would like an option when playing multiplayer to have duplicated items so if both people wanna play a certain way they can. because its like 1 item is used in 9 builds and we are playing 4 player coop... so it sucks. dont allow them to have 2 of the same item on 1 for each player somehow.

You can't. If you are referring to when he "removes his armor, casts an armor spell, then re-equips his armor", he is casting "armor of shadows". Armor of shadows is an abjuration spell, and as a eldritch invocation, it is FREE to cast. And the arcane ward ability that blocks damage gets "charged" (in the video he says "stacks") by casting abjuration spells. So free casts of armor of shadows recharges your arcane ward ability. According the bg3wiki site, "Each time you cast an Abjuration spell, the intensity of the ward increases by the amount of the spell's Level, up to a maximum of 2x your Wizard level." So with 4 levels of wizard in this build, you should be able to charge/stack 8 charges of arcane ward. "Each time you take damage, the damage is reduced by the charge count and the charge count reduces by 1." I am guessing that when a battle is done, and you are healing up, that you unequip your armor and cast armor of shadows repeatedly to charge up your arcane ward, then continue on.

It's fine, you trade damage from hand to be able to provoke opportunity attacks. Overall its very solid damage per round, but single numbers is not too high

Armor of Agathis does 5 cold damage per warlock level, plus the cold variation of fire shield, plus double damage of wet enemies. Armor of Agathis and fire shield do damage on getting hit and not by how much damage you receive. So the key is to negate the damage you receive but still make sure you get hit if you want to do the retaliation damage.

You can level Gale as a pure cleric and let him cast Warding Bond on all your party members in camp. Then kick him out of your party and let him stay in camp. If your party members take damage, Gale automatically heals himself. So you can play the game with resistance against everything until your next long rest. Feels like a cheat so I don't like it, but it works fine :)
