So sorry for your loss. In my family which works mainly in the medical field all of what you discussed is active with everyone. Thanks for posting. And everyone with older parents and relatives should have this in place.

Sorry for your loss and thanks for posting this. This is an important message that everyone should know. When times are good, we don't like to think or talk about this. But when times are bad, you can't get a power of attorney soon enough.

Great PSA, been through it myself. On the financial bank stuff, my wife works in the BSA dept of a bank. She is responsible for watching for fraud, investigating fraud, and monitoring bank accounts for deception. Caretakers are a HUGE problem with defrauding elderly people. Anyone that has a family member being taken care of needs to watch and monitor their accounts daily!!!! I don't care how long you've known the person, or how much you've trusted them, or what kind of BBB rating they have, whatever. Watch like a hawk.

God bless Mike. My wife’s grandmother didn’t have serve dementia, but I in her own words “I just can make a decision anymore” so thankfully they did most of all this right before she also broke her hip at 92. She didn’t have much quality to life anymore. I was very grateful that I was laid off at the time for 7 weeks during her last 5 weeks on earth. It was very hard but I’d do it all again tomorrow. I was her favorite nurse/bedside waiter because I’m more of a light sleeper than the in-laws 😅 Please take care of yourself in this hard time. Sleep and eat well. Bourbon scotch and cigars too of course, but food groups first. ❤

I’m very sorry for your loss. About a year ago we did a living trust for my father, and when he passed away in August, it made everything so much easier. I would highly recommend looking into a living trust, they take care of all the power of attorneys, finances, etc., and you don’t have to deal with probate

Thank you for the difficult but important video. This is personal for me as well since I have a family member with dementia that I help care for frequently. One other topic regarding care is for those of us still working to get your FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) paperwork filled out and turn it in to your HR department (if you have one). I haven't finished mine yet but have an account set up. Talk to your HR department if you work for a bigger company. For smaller employers talk to your boss or the owner of the shop. Most of us will have to take care of someone (parents most likely) as they get older and that probably will require taking time off from work.

Sorry for your lost, thanks for advice and information, my mom is 91 and living in a care facility. I'm going to consider power of attorney for her, thanks again, I'm been a auto tech for 30 yrs starting out independent mom & pa shop to vw, Toyota, and Nissan flat rate. Past 10 years I'm discontinued being a auto tech, due to lower back problems, now my new found career is janitorial it's labor work but it's a walk in the park, compared being a auto tech.

My condolences to you and your family Mike. My mom used to work in that field and it was a lot of untrustworthy people that would visit patients and try and scam them out of stuff.
@johnmedrano9782Ай бұрын
Thanks for bringing that topic up. We all need to get something set up just in case. My wife and I have preplanned and paid for our burial costs. But, we still need to go in and speak to a lawyer to get a will set in place. It makes things easier for the people surrounding you to get things handled after you have passed.

I have a few similar stories. My 11yrs with my mother in law and grandmother in law ended about 6 months ago😢 ...so with experience, not only with them but also my mother, and my grandmother (and a few other too) i feel the need to bring this discussion up. ...watch out for anesthesia when we hit +70yrs! Ive seen a few people lose something they don't get back. It's a gamble, to say the least. And it's not a statistic that has been counted. It's not yet brought up in discussions. And it should be. At minimum to prepare the family.

Heart goes out to you and your family, this is a good PSA. Personal story. After my dad passed we set up some stuff with my mom just in case. Later on it came in handy. She just passed this year. Just a year younger than your mother in law it seems. She had a mental decline as well, she also battled non- non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. I would also add to this PSA set up your own stuff, like a will and a living will and such. I have just recently. Normally it doesn’t cost much to setup that peace of mind.

Sorry for your loss, my grandfather was in amazing health and then one day slipped in the shower, after falling and hitting his head it was less then a year his health took a major turn from one of the healthiest 92+ year olds to a shell of one of my life long legends. Its been a couple years now and he blessed us in his passing leaving our family some small wealth to be divided. My mom used her portion to help me pay for trade school and start my career in automotive.

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family Mike. This is definitely a subject that isn’t talked about enough. My dad passed back in August in a nursing home. He wouldn’t take care of himself and didn’t see a doctor until it was too late and he had a stroke which landed him in the nursing home. He left me and my sister with a mess. There’s no one to tell you what needs to be done when these type of things happen. You have to figure it out on your own. He was 72

Hey this is a great service to society. Like I am a major consumer of KZbin and I've always liked the random of brand material people post. I don't have to buy when you think you get your KZbinrs approach to the first impression of a video specifically off-brand or when it happens its such a service to the public to be together and understand there's more to life than watching edited content. Thanks for sharing I hope this video serves me well when I get older . ❤
