In that first solo, the very first part especially, Glenn Tipton said to the guitar "you are now my b*tch".... true story 😂

People always start with this song but it is probably their heaviest. They have a lot of songs that are much more relaxed or chill.

"Can we listen to this type of music constantl, or do we need to take breaks?" Nope, we really don't need that, actually! You know, it's kind of like exercise: the more you do, the more you can take 😀 Welcome to the heavy metal rabbit hole, man - whenever you feel like returning, we'll be happy to have you. We are all brothers and sisters of metal!

For context Judas Priest had released some the best and heaviest metal in the early '80's, then in '86 they went full commercial on the Turbo album, even incorporating synthesized guitars, I for one liked the album but it was very polarizing for Priest fans, the follow up, Ram It Down was heavier but still polished and clean in the production. On Painkiller they came roaring back with one of the heaviest tracks they have ever written, it's a heavy metal classic at this point and this guitar solo is an achievement young guitarists strive to achieve, if you can master this guitar solo you've reached a higher level in the guitar game.

Judas Priest were never thrash metal, but they did speed up the heavy metal genre in the 70's and 80's... When thrash metal started becoming popular in 1987/ '88, the critics openly declared that Judas Priest's brand of heavy metal was being overshadowed by Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax... So, Judas Priest responded in kind w/ 'Painkiller' in 1990 w/ their fastest, angriest record of their career. It also came after the band was sued and tried in court for allegedly inspiring a double suicide in Nevada by 2 of their fans. They were eventually acquitted... but being called 'killers' in court by lying lawyers and grieving parents was traumatic for them.

Rock & Roll began when in the mid fifties the modern Drum Kit and the Electric Bass Guitar and Rhythm/Lead Guitars became popular and every kid wanted to learn to play and form a band. In the mid sixties many kids became quite good with their instruments and live performances started to create a new class of artist/group with more sophisticated arrangements and meaningful lyrical content. Soon some groups added specialty players with various Keyboards, Sax/Horns, Violins/Strings, Flutes that became what we now call “Classic Rock”- “Progressive”.. “Prog Rock”….. Then everything started to branch off into a variety of rock genres like Heavy Metal, Punk, New Wave, Grunge, Alternative, Glam, Hair, Shredder, Thrash, and others. Some of it is iconic, legendary, changes society and will go down in history as the Greatest Rock Music of all time… and some…. not so much. It’s up to each individual what they like.
