John Hall of Orleans explained how the song came to be written in the liner notes to the Best of Orleans CD: "A friend of ours was going through a divorce and asked Johanna (Hall's wife and lyricist) to write a song about a couple staying together. So she did, and she handed me the finished lyric on the back of an envelope and said, 'Do you think you can do anything with this?' I wrote the music to it in 10 minutes, which was a good sign." In the late '70s, ABC's slogan was "Still The One," and the network used different versions of this song in their promotional campaigns. Many renditions were recorded by studio singers - often with female vocalists - for the spots.

The 70s had so many good love songs. But now my fav songs are bout the Lord Jesus Christ He has given me so much peace Known that he died for every ones sins past present and future. taking every one's shame and guilt we have ALL SINED AND FALL SHORT. But only if you put ALL YOUR trust in him alone, He was the one that died a horrible death to cover all our sins past present and future Because sin cannot be in Heaven. I hope he gives you peace knowing you don't have to go to Hell for ever but be with in Heaven for ever with him. This is the best news you will ever hear.

Lance Hoppen, original co-founding member of Orleans, here. Thanks so much for posting and LOVING this song! I was 18 when the band started. I'll be 69 in January. So nice to know fresh ears still respond so well to Still the One. Yes, it was a top 5 hit in '76, became the ABC TV theme song for '77-'78 and since then has been used in countless local and national TV/radio commercial campaigns, movies, TV shows and even political campaigns (both major parties). Probably why Amber said it sounded "familiar" :-) The stellar lead singer was my older brother, Larry, who passed suddenly in 2012. The co-writer (along with his former wife and writing partner, Johanna Hall) was John Hall. Guitars were by John and Larry, who also played the Fender Rhodes piano. The band has been through many changes over the years yet we still perform live now and into 2023, at least. You can find a wealth of video at our OrleansOnline channel, learn anything you might want to know about our history at OrleansOnline.net and interact with us on Facebook at Orleansmusic. Thanks again!

This song is perfection and the storyline is a man admitting that he is still in love with the same lady after all those years. Very well written and beautifully done. 1976 soft rock. American band Orleans co-founder, the late Larry Hoppen, sang lead. The lyrics of the up tempo love song are of a man describing his feelings for a woman with whom he has a long lasting intimate relationship ("You're still the one, I want to talk to in bed; Still the one that turns my head") and all the reasons why she is "Still the One" for whom he has feelings. "DANCE WITH ME." Another great song by them!!

Someone may have already mentioned this: the song “Still The One” by Orleans was used by the ABC television network to promote their programming back around 1977. During that timeframe, ABC had been flying high in the ratings and so the title of the song was used to underscore the fact that ABC was “still the one” to watch. Some of those ABC promotional ads are posted on KZbin, so you can do a search for those. Here is a long-form version of the ad that ABC used to kick off their affiliates meetings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp-4dKqEndN-nZY

I tend to agree with you (wait for it) but the thing is that all singers have used reverb, distortion not to mention microphones and amps to "modify" the sound of their voice. Even Michael Buble a man that can sing mentioned in an interview that he had to use autotune on one song on his latest release because the audience likes the way it sounds. I don't have the time to go into how fd up that is but he said it.

Orleans is an American pop rock band best known for its hits "Dance with Me" (No. 6 in 1975); "Still the One" (No. 5), from the album Waking and Dreaming (1976); and "Love Takes Time" (No. 11 in 1979). The group's name evolved from the music it was playing at the time of their formation, which was inspired by Louisiana artists such as Allen Toussaint and the Neville Brothers. Orleans was formed in Woodstock, New York in January 1972.

@@hobblone3887 I've requested that on some other videos and channels and still have not heard it! I would like to see them do some Firefall but not all the mellow songs everybody requests. Mexico, It Doesn't Matter, Sweet & Sour & Undertow are all rockers! Our band learned Love Takes Time in the early 80's and even with 3 good singers & lowering the key a whole step we just couldn't do it well enough to play it out live but we played it for years at practice.

In the early to mid 80's Orleans did small fundraiser concerts. My Dad took us to several of them. He was a big fan because there music reminded him of the popular music of his teens in the 50's. Unfortunately at the time I wasn't in to it. Now it brings back happy memories .

All this great music you are finally hearing is what we lived with on the radio. You could get in your car, turn on am radio and hear these songs of love, peace, happiness and truth. Just beautiful! I was in college when this song came out. I happened to go home to visit and had it playing on my radio. My Mother said the song was about her and my Father. They married the day after they graduated from college and were married 55 years before my Father passed. It wasn't until much later that I really listened to the lyrics, and she was right, they laughed and loved, and were the epitome of opposites attract. I'm so glad y'all got to experience this gem.

This is a reaction channel, one of many; mostly done by a generation of listeners that, we're toddlers, small children or not even born at the time these great artists were in their prime. It is very annoying when someone criticizes the hosts, for "their"reaction. To interject informative facts about the band, is great! If you want to give your own reaction; go get your own channel.

Orleans is an undrerappreciated band. Albums "Let There Be Music" and "Waking and Dreaming" are so so good. Suggested song titles are "Let There Be Music", "Dance With Me", "Reach", "You"ve Given Me Something". From upstate NY, they were on the way to star status when the journey was interrupted by the death of founding member and creative force Wells Kelly. John Hall and wife Johanna were principal songwriters, and both John and Larry Hoppen (lead singer on Still the One) were killer guitar players...both played on that double lead in Still the One.

I always enjoy you two. I heard this review a couple years ago and left a comment then but had forgotten it because it's been a while. But tonight I came here again and enjoyed it again. If you have a minute I have a story for you. I have always been blessed to make a living playing music. Sometimes it was hamburgers, sometimes it was steak. But back in the 70's there was a club in Atlanta GA near where I lived called Richards. It was one of the first clubs in Atlanta with a great in house PA. Most times you would never trust your sound to anything other than your own set up, but there's was so good it was one you could trust. We got to play there a few times and on the week ends they would broadcast us live from there. We happened to be playing there one night when Frank Zappa was in town and by chance he came to the club and I got to meet him and later got the call from him to fill in on bass when his bass player, Tom Fowler broke a finger in the middle of a tour in the fall of 74. Well anyway, I was coming home one night from a gig, and where the gig was I don't remember now but as we neared Atlanta I just tuned in to the station to see who was playing at Richard's. And here was this music as good as I had ever heard, live, and just sounding great. Listened to a few songs and it just got better and better because as bands know, we save the best and build it to a finish in a set. Had never heard any of this because they were basically unknown at that time. That would soon change. It was Orleans!

The deep voiced man was singing throughout the entire song, his voice blended well with the others. It was made prominent at exactly the right moment. I grew up listening to this song. ABC used this song in their commercials promoting their programming line up when it was still fairly new which helped in its popularity.
