The " This is love" comment and the rest! Yes! I think you see Spike differently and more completely than most reactors. I've always been a bit obsessed by the Spike/ Buffy situation and how it stands the good girl/bad boy trope on its head and spins it around. It's fascinating to me.

@@Nicamon I think Ben was also curious. He wanted to know what was going on. Since Sofie ist already way ahead in S6 I dare to say (minor spoilers for anybody else who hasn't seen the end of S5) that he knows that his life is on the line if Glory returns home, maybe he already was thinking about if there was any other way to handle the key situation, destroy it before Glory can use it. He had to know more about it. Regarding the monks - if they could transform the key into anything, why didn't they just make it a mouse and step on it...? Spilled the blood before Glory could use it. But I always considered that maybe the key was not something Glory made and only she could use. Maybe it was used for other dimensions as well and could be used without turning everything into chaos. So they had to keep the key around for other purposes.

28:51 That's simple: Ben was created as a prison for Glory which means she was cast out by the time he was born - Glorys imprisonment is the same as Ben's age. According to the lore Ben is 25 which means Glory has been imprisoned for 25 years.
@blacktronlego
@blacktronlego 2 жыл бұрын
The way I see it is this: Glory was getting too powerful, so the others cast her out. At this point Ben was born as a normal human boy and they put her inside him so she could not manifest. Her power grew until Ben was no longer able to contain her, the first time she took over, he probably had no idea what was happening. He now knows what is going on and hates it. He wants to live, he does not want to kill Dawn, but he may feel he has to.

The show is now reaching boiling point. In Spiral, Glory now knows Dawn is The Key. Spike turning up in the RV is funny with the slit in the front window. The scenes with The Knights chasing the RV and the ensuing fight is great. The mistake of getting Ben to come to treat Giles with of course the Scoobies not aware he is also Glory. The General explains to Buffy why it is all happening, and that there is no way to stop Glory unless The Key is destroyed. When Glory takes Dawn we can see Buffy becoming catatonic with stress. The build up to the finale is superb, and it does not disappoint. Brilliant writing in S5.

Ben is Glory's prison. But genetically, they probably ARE siblings. When Glory takes corporeal form, she uses Ben's genetics, so yeah, brother and sister. I also wondered why the monks hadn't destroyed the key so Glory would... fade away? And the knights could stop trying to destroy it. Maybe they couldn't destroy it? Or maybe it had some other purpose for the monks?

"Buffy just killed a human, fyi" I noticed that too, but haven't seen many reactors point this out. Yes that was a human, and she probably (more than likely) killed him. Sure, they're in the middle of a war, but still. Not that I think it's a "huge" deal at this point (when it comes to defending yourself from an army that want to kill your sister), but I like hearing someone say "hey, he was human, Buffy is not supposed to do that!".

I don't know if Joss or James Contner (who directed the ep) have ever said it, but I would bet that one of them had a good look at that movie. I had the same fear that you did at the Buffy/Giles scene. I kept thinking 'they can't kill him off, too! Can they???' 😧

The key can't be destroyed. Its energy. Monks made it change form and hid it and if Dawn is destroyed the Key will just exist in different form then. What the knights want to do is more like breaking the key in half. So while Glory might eventually be able to use it she can't now. So just keep destroying the key till the limited human life of Glory's prison eventually ends. That's basically the knights plan. The way sanity works in buffyverse is that its not matter of sane being good and right and the opposite being bad. Sanity is specific perception of the world. Losing that means shift in perspective and being less bound by the laws of reality. Its like being switched to a different radio frequency. It ties into how dreams are prophetic and trance states like Buffy used can be used to see past the illusion of Dawn. Because everything about Glory, Dawn included, is something from beyond this reality. That switch in frequency means perceiving Dawn in her true form as well as feeling the effect Glory has upon the world.

Which major character could you stand dying and still watch the show? With all the crazy and ridiculousness in buffy, I strangely always find this episode too silly for real world reasons: There is no way a horse can keep up with an RV on an open road, especially with an armoured knight on its back. Heck, a horse couldn't even sustain a gallop at residential speed limits (50km/hr) for more than a minute or two - the fastest racehorses can avg 35mph over 1mile - after that you'd be expecting 15-20 km/hr sustained at most. An RV should be hitting at least 70-80km/hr, even in poor condition.

I think the timeline is the monks sent Key Dawn into the future to the strongest defender of humanity but Ben was created 20 odd yrs ago. It would make sense to try to separate the Key and Glory by time, shame it wasnt a larger gap of separation. Buffy killed that soldier, but is it really the first time she killed a human ? How about Amy's mom ? OK she's a witch, but witches are humans right ? She just turned her own spell against her and she might not be dead but trapped in a statue but she doesn't know that right ? Or, how about the zookeeper of the hyenas episode ? He might have been possessed by a hyena spirit but so was Xander and the rest of the pig eating gang. There's also those killers from the order of Teracca in What's My Line. I"m not sure the ugly guy Buffy kills with her ice skate blade is a demon despite being ugly. And how about the policewoman? In S3 ep. 2 she also technically kills her mom's friend (or she was dead after wearing that mask ?) I don't think that Gwendoline Post was possessed or technically dead after she wears the "Witchblade" too. You could argue that Bufft has killed several foes that were technically humans before.

It’s not that simple. Willow is more powerful here than she was in Something Blue and yet still could barely find a spell to affect Glory apart from really slowing her down and causing her a few seconds of pain. Glory isn’t a vampire or a person, she is a god. Adam was also immune against Johnathans reality warping in Season 4.

How come Willow is so powerful? I've thought about this, and a good explanation could be that she grew up in Sunnydale which is on the hellmouth, and she then spent most of her time actually directly right above the hellmouth. This had some influence on her powers making her stronger than she would have been. Only my theory.
@67Daidalos
@67Daidalos 2 жыл бұрын
This is just a theory of mine, nothing in the rest of the show confirm nor infirm it. But I believe that the monks didn't want to destroy the key cause it may be necessary for overcoming a foreseen disaster. (I have also a theory about what it could be more precisely, but it would flirt with spoiler territory to mention it). That's why they wanted the Slayer to protect the key, both from the beast and from the Knights of Byzantium. Don't know if they ever tried to explain to the Knights in what the key could be helpful, but we can assume they did and the Knights didn't want to listen.
@DanielOrme

I think the monks knew (or at least believed) that The Key could also be used for Good. Even Glory thought so. Remember in "Blood Ties," when Dawn asks her if The Key is evil, Glory first says "totally," but then admits "it depends on your point of view."

They didn't seem that dire because they won that time. But can they be sure to win against the First Slayer again? Probably not. Besides, with Adam, they just needed a way to reach his power core and take that out. There was a goal to reach because they knew how to destroy him. Up until this point in the season, they had no way to know how to destroy Glory. They would have risked the First Slayer for no clear goal.

In the previous episode, Glory caught up to the Gang and because she brain-sucked Tara, Tara unintentionally revealed that the Key was Dawn to her. Now they’re on the run from her with the added complication that Tara doesn’t know what she’s doing, and so Willow has to take care of her at the same time of protecting everyone from Glory. She plays a huge part in the run from her. Both her magical powers and computer technology skills are sorely needed. She is very necessary to the predicament they are all in and is very effective at keeping everyone safe. Proving that she’s the only one really capable of doing so, while Buffy is scrambling about trying whatever she can and feeling like she’s failing because she’s ‘The Slayer’, and her duty is to defend them from Big Bads the likes of Glory. So the fact that she has to run away to do that really bothers her. She’s never had to choose flight over fight before. Her Slayer powers are practically useless compared to Willow’s magical powers in this situation. So Willow’s proving that she’s on the same level as Buffy as a warrior, if not above her, at this point in the show. And although Glory is insurmountably physically stronger than the both of them combined, it says a lot that only Willow can seem to keep her at bay. And the fact that she can do it all the while looking after Tara? That’s quite the astonishing feat for a girl who once upon a time was the damsel-in-distress and couldn’t even protect herself from a soulless vampire. Willow has grew into her innate power, for the better or for the worse, and is not someone to messed with anymore.
