The reason the BE is capitalized in BEcause is a play on words. The BE is a Chinese character for sadness in the Hangul title. So the title can also be read “ the Cause of (my) sadness”.

BEcause is heavily influenced by the American horror movie "Us," which is why there are many representations of doppelgangers in the music video. The song itself narrates how an intense love can become an obsession, contributing to the eerie, occult vibe. It is also stylized as "BEcause" because the Hanja character for "BE" is "悲," which means sadness. Obsessive love and embracing one's crazy side are rooted in loneliness. You can also visualize 悲 through their choreography, as their hand and finger movements during the chorus resemble the Chinese character. Another fun fact is that they sampled "Für Elise." It's a fan theory that "Für Elise" also represents crazy love in the song because of the backstory of how Beethoven composed it for his student, whom he liked. It is theorized that Beethoven changed it into a complex composition when she refused his marriage proposal, making it difficult for her to learn or play.

Thanks for this. I was tearing up towards the end of the song. I think it was because my fave reaction team were reacting to them. I've seen the video loads of times and no tears. I don't know if you noticed, but the initial part of the video shows the individual girls taken just in one shot. Very unusual. The video is based on the American Horror Film called Us. I've not seen the full film, but I have seen a segment. The family go on holiday and are terrorised by evil versions of themselves. Mrs Coach talked along the right lines. But not totally correct. Dreamcatcher, the company, has just re-eleased the first two singles, and I received them a couple of days ago. I was so happy as it saved me a few hundred pounds paying for the originals. The video for R.o.S.E Blue has a good story based on a video game.

Mrs. Coach gets it. In fact she is the only reactor I've ever seen who understood the meaning of the mirrors on the first viewing. The theme of the dark/light aspect of humanity is one of the most common themes in Dreamcatcher MV's, the mirrors being a window into the soul, and sometimes that window may open. Their first six title tracks (plus 1) starting with their debut song, Chase Me, are based on that theme. The imagery in BEcause was inspired by the American horror movie 'Us'. Another one of Dreamcatcher's favorite themes found in the song is obsessive love. The loved one is turned by their lover into a doll or puppet, an impossibly beautiful love object which exists solely to be adored. This could also be taken as the way that Kpop Idols often feel. At the end, Gahyun becomes the prettiest doll I've ever seen, but her spirit is gone and her eyes are glass doll's eyes.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's backing vocals is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

I need to copy my interpretation as this is one of my Favorite M/V BEcause is a standalone track but it has some of the most complex visual references I have ever seen in an M/V and paired with its really creepy lyrics it is just a real masterpiece. Just a few things to point out: In the title "BE" as written by the Chinese character "悲“, means "sadness" so "BEcause I love you" means that the source of my sadness is that I love you. It is a song about obsessive love while the visuals are heavily inspired by the horror movie "US" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers living underground take over the life of their counterparts. Many scenes from the movie were recreated in the M/V. Similar to the movie 'US' in BEcause the doppelgangers are like an obsessive Shadow side that craves love and a normal side (red represents the shadow side, blue represents the normal side while purple is an indication that these side live together, like the tapestry color change in the bridge section. The hourglass starts the obsessive cycle 1:33 when the shadow side breaks 1:23 free (with a smirk) and starts corrupting the normal side 1:31 while eventually the obsessive side gets rejected and becomes the victim of itself and becomes the new normal side puppeteering the shadow side 6:26 hence the smirk and the laugh at the end of the video. And now the cycle can starts over... Some details I love are how in the lobby at the beginning the dresses of the people who will be taken over during the video are presented 1:51 Also the old electric chair used as a throne with roses is a nice one 4:00. Exactly half the scenes use wrong lighting setup enforcing the duality, just like all the mirror and upside down images. Finally plenty of images are exact recreations from the "US". Overall, I am also in love with BEcause M/V :) Stay the way you are like a beautiful painting is straight up reference to Good night, "like my very own doll" (one of their earlier song) . The doll you can technically interpret as a corpse, especially that right after the "take away the spilled paint before it hardens " is basically blood.... Similar to how Blue Blue your face turns blue is suffocation.

Don't know if people would survive Coach as Alexa. I think it might be overwhelming for some. Dreamcatcher does do a lot of creepier/darker concepts, but they do have a lot of other stuff as well. If you want to stick to the "spook-tober" theme I would recommend their first arc, the Nightmare series. I think that this song was inspired by obsessive fans - they love you more than anything, and they'll tear you down if you don't love them back or do what they want. It applies to lots of relationships, but Idols and entertainers of all types have to deal with this all the time. I checked with some engineers, and the problem for a Coach bobblehead is that the head would have to be so big that it would just tip over. ;) In the same vein, I just realized that I have perfect taste in music. It turns out that all of the artists/groups that I like just happen to be the best ones. I don't know how I do it. ;)

dreamcatcher \:D/ mrs coach is smart! she got the underlying theme. most people just interpret the song as being about obsessive love. however when you combine it with all the imagery of mirrors, duplicates, angelic/evil... it's more self reflective. "BE" is capitalized because it's the korean romanization of the chinese character for 'sadness'. so BEcause can be interpreted as the cause of sadness. your inner self, your dark half, is trying to sway you from inhibitions/guilt that can cause sadness. the imagery of your reflection in a broken mirror handing an apple to yourself describes the theme pretty well. it's also a recurring theme in dreamcatcher's discography - maintaining your identity despite any external, or internal pressure.
