Wow, great choice, thanks❣️ I suggest Dead boys poem live at Buenos Aires 2018. An old, important and beautiful song brought back to life with Floor.

I agree with Mrs Coach. Nightwish make you stop and think about the profound realities of life and death... alongside visuals that suck you in and make you question your own reality..

Another great reaction! One of my absolute favorites with Marko singing. From the Human Nature album. Last song on disc 1, the Human part of the album. I love the dirge like, doomy feel of the instrumentation and Tuomas's lyrics are so poetic, thoughtful, and inspirational. I think Marko lyrics are time personified. Time is the thief, stealing in every second, future possibilities based on our decisions. One of the lines I love is " Walk with me to your sea" Knowing Tuomas's love of the sea and how he uses it as metaphor for a place of refuge or serenity the line is a perfect description of walking through life to our final refuge and peace in death. Tuomas is continuing one of his themes from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album about the preciousness of life. We need to recognize that and live our lives in a meaningful way. To not do so is almost criminal. "The pain of the slow evil of an unsung life" and "Decades, make them matter". Then at the end of our lives we should gratefully "join the silent flow" and follow death into the endless darkness to be born into something new. For me the final two stanzas are very comforting. It is like an invitation to the next big adventure and what ever new beginning awaits us on the other side. Who knows what that will be but it is a wonderful adventure! The song is a perfect ending to disc 1 and also very fitting that is the last song Marko recorded/performed with Nightwish before deciding to step back for his own mental health and happiness. Never performed live since he left the band before the pandemic ended and touring could begin again. Highly doubt it will ever be performed live because I can't imagine any one else singing it. Grateful you got to react to this song. It is hardly ever reacted to which is a shame because it is so beautiful. Thanks again.

Great comment. Thanks for breaking down your thoughts on the lyrics. It is a shame that we probably won't see this live, and also to hear that it isn't a popular reaction song. But we're glad the viewers suggested it!

This is the last song of Marko in Nightwish. And the last song on the album Human. :||: Nature. That symbol you saw in the video means Human Nature in cuneiform writting, the upper one word means Human in Assyrian and the lower one word means Nature in Sumerian.

Thanks for sharing more great music, vocals & thought provoking lyrics. The vocalist/bassist/guitarist/songwriter Marko Hietala said this about this song: “It’s a song about a universe, or actually a multiversal force, so grand, so majestic, that it actually binds and permeates everything. All of our lives are just tiny particles in this mighty flow. And then there’s this mere human vocalist, and his friend, a human being as well, has written a story. And we’re in this rock group trying to bring its unique loneliness across to other mere humans.”.

Yeah, this song has deep meaning to me, having cancer myself but also have someone to share the thief (time) with. It's perhaps morbid to some people, but I've decided that this will be a song that will definitely be played at my funeral. I hope to stay around for a while yet, but you can't help but start thinking about things like this when you're confronted with your mortality. But as much as it's a sad song, it's also a beautiful song. It embodies, for me, the idea of dying but going back into the endlessness of the universe from whence we came. And as you know, nothing can be really destroyed, it just transforms into something else like. And whatever I'll be transformed into after being cremated like smoke, soot and such things; all of that will contain my memories and experiences in some form or another. Dust with a meaning. It's my personal interpretation of course but that's how I look at it.

No sooner had I finished listening to this fantastic song did I learn that Marko had announced his retirement from the music industry. I was deeply saddened at the reasons behind his decision, but understood completely. This whole album was recorded during COVID so by the time that any of the songs were performed live, Marko had gone, and Jukka from Wintersun had replaced him. Along with 'Master, Passion and Greed' we have another Marko-fronted song that will never be performed live. Ah well......Take care both

Never performed live because this album came out around the beginning of the pandemic, delaying any touring, and Marko sings it, and he left the band prior to the delayed tour. A good song though.

For me this song was a sort of a slow burn, at first a reaction of "interesting if nothing more". Not an uncommon reaction for me, but I know it gets far better. On subsequent listens it hit home and it hit hard. Just Nightwish doing Nightwish things.

Thanks for doing NIGHTWISH again ...... they never get boring. It's been a while since you reacted to EPICA , so please would you react to some more of them, much apreciated. The latest EPICA - *_”Arcana”_* (Live at The Symphonic Synergy) The Netherlands 09/20/24 : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bam7gax3na2bjsU And/or (same concert) *_”The Ghost In Me (Dance Macabre)”_* : kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6nCd3SKpd90eJo Note from the band: The time has come to write history once more. 15 years have passed since ‘The Classical Conspiracy’ and 10 years since we recorded another milestone in our career, ‘Retrospect’ - now, over a decade later, we are once again about to enter the stage with a full orchestra and choir. Under the title, ‘The Symphonic Synergy’, we will play two massive “Epica & Orchestra” shows. One in our home country, the Netherlands (09/20/24) and another one in our second home, Mexico (12/07/24). Finally, it is happening.

How ironic that this is the final song on the final record with Marko. As well as the title? The thief is time. Maybe time for some tums?

Beautiful song. There's a lovely cycle to Marko's two decades with the band, almost a temporal paradox. The first song on his first NW album is _Bless_ _the_ _Child,_ which includes the words "why has all the laughter ceased?" - a good description of how that journey ended. Meanwhile _Endlessness_ actually includes much hope - "come, here is life"; "someone in the tomorrow is waiting for me". And then they link: we have "unborn child await my touch" here, and "gone back in time to bless the child" there. The question is asked, "How can I ever feel again?", and happily we already know that Marko is doing better, his depression under control. Fans should try to avoid obsessing over the question that follows it, "Given the chance would I return?"
@Raven-fh2yy11 күн бұрын
The thief is of course Time... the dust with a meaning is and are the important people in your life... and they are precious and rare. "Decades... MAKE THEM MATTER" the most important line in the song.... don't waste your life.

I agree about Nightwish, a band that can absolutely make you think but also damn entertaining. It's one of those bands I wish I had really gotten into like 10 years ago (when Marko was still around) so I could have seen them live then. I mean, I would probably go still now if possible, but it's a shame Marko wouldn't be there. This song was beautiful and very cleverly written. I really appreciate Toumas approach to music, it is really a classical way of thinking about music (as in the way the classical composers did it) and that makes the every song have a certain feel that is hard to find outside Nightwish. I have to say as well, totally with Coach on the whole "going fast"-thing. I've been saying for years that a long and dragged out affair with pain and tears just seems awful. Either way, great choice of song and great reaction!

Am I imagining it or did "The Day Of" from the newest album do a reprise of sorts of the melody (not music literate so maybe it's a different term but hopefully someone will get what I mean) starting at 6:56 in this track? I know that Tuomas pulled bits and pieces in from the Nightwish past for Yesterwynde and I was just surprised to hear what seems to be what "The Day Of" may have been built on/evolved from.🤘

Did Marko say anywhere his plan to do this song live, either solo or with short reunion? He is coming with Tarja to my city in March and it would be great to see it on his setlist.
@chriso671912 күн бұрын
There is no live version as of now, would love to see one some day ,but there probably won't be. From the 2020 Human:II:Nature album , which was recorded with Marko but he left before they got to play any of it live. Floor sang lead on 7 of the 9 songs, Marko sang lead on "Endlessness" and Troy sang lead on "Harvest". Lead single on that album was "Noise". Marko has a new solo album coming out Feb 7, 4 singles from that are out. You did the first one "Left On Mars" with Tarja. The other 3 are "Impatient Zero", "Frankenstein's Wife", and "Rebel of the North"

Imho, Marko is singing as the Greek god Hermes, who is known as the Thief and is the father of Pan. He is also credited with creating the Lyre/music and guiding dead souls to the underworld. Check out info about Hermes to get the whole story. As Marko himself has said. We are all made from the river of stardust, and ultimately, we and our world will become part of the stardust once again.

Great finale to their Human- Nature album. A song essentially giving a scientific take on “faith” (Nightwish are atheist) The songs message is live a life of worthiness and once it’s over be comforted that you along with all other physical matter in the universe will be recycled… You are a tiny part of an inconceivably larger system..
