Roger Daltrey was a brawler. He grew up having to be tough. He is the goat with the rock scream!! My favorite band of all time. I had the biggest teen crush on Roger Daltrey. I had his pictures all over my wall and on the inside of my locker. My friends thought I was such a weirdo because it was mid 70s when I became a fan. Nobody except me loved them or their bizarre movie Tommy. Meanwhile I collected album after album. I wonder if those old high school friends remembered me when they started watching CSI. Haha

They were a massive influence on hard rock, heavy metal, punk, grunge, etc. Drummer Keith Moon is generally regarded as one of the top ten all time. Bassist John Entwhistle is also considered one of the best at his instrument. Sadly, both are no longer with us (R.I.P.)

You heard this on the TV show CSI, was the opening credits song. This song is a story about the guitarist Pete Townsend when he was drunk and roaming around the city late at night and a police officer clearly knew he was drunk and wanted to know who the fuck he was, lol. If you listen to the lyrics closely you can hear the line “You can go sleep at home tonight if you can get up and walk away”, the cop said to him. The powerful rock voice your hearing belongs to Roger Daltry, the lead singer, rounding out the band are bassist John Entwistle and the ever crazy, off the charts drummer Kieth Moon. The Who started out in the 60’s coming on the heals of the Beatles and The Stones British Invasion, as the band grew and changed from a sort of British Pop band to a heavier sound as they moved into the 70’s. As most of the 60’s Pop/Rock bands moved into the late 60’s and early 70’s they were influenced by the Psychedelic era, so did The Who, with lead guitarist and chief song writer Pete Townsend writing the Rock Opera Tommy. This particular album and song are from the late 70’s, near the tail end of the bands and drummer Kieth Moons life, sadly Kieth died from alcoholism not too long after the release of this album, right before the band were to go out on tour to support the album. The band did eventually stay together with a new drummer. You should check out the official video of this song. The Who were having a lot of fun recording this! And yes, he is using *that word* :) On the radio-friendly version the word "Hell" is used instead. The Who were one of the greatest bands ever to come out of England - Roger Daltrey's perfect rock vocals, Pete Townshend's distinctive guitar and backing vocals (he also wrote most of the songs), the madman that was drummer Keith Moon, and arguably the greatest rock bassist ever, John Entwistle. You should check out "Won't Get Fooled Again", "5.15", "Baba O'Riley", "My Generation", "I Can See For Miles", and "Pinball Wizard".

One of the reasons you may have heard at least part of that song before is that it was used for the opening credits of CSI (Las Vegas). Other WHO songs were used for both CSI Miami and CSI New York.

Pete Townshend wrote the song and has claimed it is a prayer searching for God. I love the lines in the song: "I know there's a place you walked where love falls from the trees. Well done, friend. (I saw them play in Buffalo around 1970, well before this song's release.) My very favorite part of this cut: Townshend's muted acoustic guitar solo. I always turn the volume way up for it but carefully cut it back before the monster guitar chord comes crashing down at its conclusion.

First live concert I ever went to. Saw them at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, December 1982. I was in 10th grade and had Saturday detention the next morning. I was quite hungover and still a little buzzed, plus my ears were still ringing. To this day, still the best concert I ever went to.

The Who started in 1964. Led Zeppelin didn't start until 1968. They were four years behind The Beatles and two years behind the Rolling Stones. Beatles - 1960 Rolling Stones - 1962 The Who - 1964 Led Zeppelin - 1968 That was just when the bands formed. Not when they made cut first records, or first hits, etc. All of the CIS shows used a WHO song as a theme song for the show. CSI Original - Las Vegas used Who Are You. CSI Miami used Won't Get Fooled Again. CSI NY used Baba O'Riley. And CSI Cyber used I Can See For Miles.
