Fun fact: when Paul Stanley showed Gene Simmons the first bit of lyrics for the first time, he was like, "Ooh yeah, yeah, _I wanna give it all to you,_ I know what *that* means!" He was really digging it the way through the next few lines, until he asked "Okay, what's my part?" - *doo doo doo, do-doo, do-doo, doo doo* - "Really? You're kiddin' me". Gene stopped DEAD in his tracks. He _really_ wanted to strangle Paul at that point. So ultimately, Paul ended up singing the "doo doo doo" part as Gene to this day will not have a bar of it 😂

Gene Simmons (the demon)is the face of KISS, Paul Stanley(starchild)is the heart of kiss and criminally underappreciated as a singer songwriter and frontman. The fan favorites are Ace Frehley(space ace or spaceman)on lead guitar and Peter Criss (the catman)on drums. This is the original lineup and by far the favorite lineup. In the 70s they never went anywhere without the makeup and no one knew what they looked like without the makeup(never happen today). In the 80s the makeup came off with a different lineup. In the 90s the original lineup reunited with the makeup back on. The original lineup is no longer there but they are still wearing the makeup. They are the soundtrack to my life

Not just a hit for Kiss, but this song also was the break-out song for Desmond Child, who wrote the song with Paul Stanley. Because after it became a hit, Desmond Child became a sought after songwriter. In fact, it was when Bon Jovi played opening slots for Kiss in the early eighties, when Jon Bon Jovi asked Paul Stanley if he wanted to write songs together with him. Stanley declined, but told Jon, “I know just the guy!” So which Bon Jovi tunes did Desmond Child write for the band? - You gave love a bad name - Bad Medicine - Living on a prayer. And after those songs became big hits, the door was opened and people began to seek out Desmond Child. Scoring him hits for Joan Jett (I hate myself for loving you), Aerosmith (Dude, looks like a lady), Ricky Martin (Livin' la vida loca) among others.

This was a different side of Kiss that many fans weren't thrilled about when it was first released. They did a few change ups during the 80's, tweaking their sound and look, trying to stay current and relevant, including losing their makeup for a while. In 96 by overwhelming requests and support of fans, the original members rejoined in full makeup and began awe-inspiring old and new fans alike. All four original members took turns doing lead vocals at times. And Ace Frehly (lead guitar) is still my favorite of the bunch. I always gravitated towards the songs he sang more, and always thought his Kiss Solo LP was the best of the bunch. ✌️

I've seen Kiss in concert with them wearing their makeup and without their makeup. When I and my my closest cousins were little we would play like we were Kiss. I was always Peter Criss (before he left the band). I absolutley have been a Kiss fan since I was 8 yrs old. Lol

the song Beth is one of KISS's best soft songs. It is beautiful.

They took off the makeup in 1983 and stayed like that till 1995 reunion. Kiss got raked over the coals for doing this song. Fans called it a sellout disco song. The album it came from wasn't disco, just this song. Every rock band was doing a disco song at the time, but Kiss fans weren't having it. Nevertheless, this was a huge hit for them

Kiss was my first concert I went to in 1978 for their Love Gun tour I was 10 years old and after seeing Ace Frehley I bugged my parents for a guitar for Christmas, I got it an old Gibson melody maker single cut away sunburst 45 years later I still have that guitar, since then I have had many others including a Les Paul custom but that first one will always be my favorite.

Do you remember the TV commercials they had when an album came out. They were really short like 15 second spots. I remember Love Gun, Steve Miller Band, Dire Straights, Elvis Costello- Can't find them on You Tube. Such a cool time to be a teen. So much new music...

In the mid to late 70s disco was ruling the airwaves and the clubs. Bands were looking for a way for their songs to stay in the forefront. This was their attempt to get play in the discos of the day. Absolutely love this song!

Hello Amber. Paul Stanley does most of the lead singing, with Gene coming in second (if I remember correctly). I also know Peter Criss (drummer) sings a few songs. Two slower songs (ballads) you might like by Kiss are "Beth" and "Hard Luck Woman"

I love the Ballad "Beth", You would never know it was KISS!

When Kiss went a little disco. But man what an album Dynasty was. As a kid, these guys were my favorites. So many songs to check out.

In this bands original lineup, all guys sang lead on various songs. A great song/video of them without makeup is Tears Are Falling. Different drummer and guitarist though.

Yes, KISS did what they called an "unmasking" on MTV, back when MTV played videos. You want hard, listen to "God of Thunder". They have soooo many songs to choose from because they've been around for so long. It's a rabbit hole you definitely need to go down!!!! Try "Love Gun, Calling Dr. Love, You Put The X In Sex, Ugh All Night, Tears Are Falling, Forever, Lick It Up, Beth".

I think the first video they did without makeup was Lick It Up.

Remember, 1979 was the year this record was cut. 1979 was the height of the Disco era. A lot of rock band cut a disco hit, including the Stones,"make that money". This song was always played in the discos around the nation. Notice the disco rhythm section of the song. When this song played, everybody was on the dance floor. I was 22 years old.

SO MANY great tunes by this band. The one I would recommend to you to check out next though, is my favorite by them. The Mtv Unplugged performance of "I Still Love You" is one of their finest performances ever. Gene does sing on a LOT of KISS tunes, notably "God Of Thunder" "Domino" and "Spit." A great one from their more recent stuff is "Freak." I really could go on for hours with these guys.

If you want a Gene vocal, listen to “I Love It Loud”. Or for a twist, listen to Gene do vocals on “Unholy” while performing without makeup.

The opening riff to this song is so iconic of the KISS sound it's probably one of the most recognisable Riffs in Rock history. Once you've heard it you'll never forget it. Screw the hardcore KISS fans with their anti-disco attitude, I say... This song was a huge hit for them and won them a lot of fans who wouldn't have otherwise cared for KISS at all.
@richhope30432 жыл бұрын
Kiss was on the downhill slide here in the states. They became popular with that song in South America and in Europe. No self respecting American Kiss fan really likes that disco song or the era for that matter. They became disco then bubble gum then they became really weird with the Elder. They went off the tracks starting with Dynasty.
@christianman732 жыл бұрын
I was a hardcore, hard-rocking KISS fan before "I Was Made for Lovin' You," and when that song was released, I loved it and the whole album, "Dynasty." I didn't think they were selling out by simply mixing in different styles with their usual hard rock sound. I never stopped being a KISS fan when so many fans abandoned them from 79-82. I loved the albums of that era and later.
