Honestly this song is one of his best songs in general, not just from this mixtape particularly. It's crazy how NF just keeps getting better over time. His candences, flows, and rhyme schemes just keep elevating. His story-telling/painting pictures with his words has always been good, but the technique of his rapping just keeps elevating. Dude is massively talented. He can do any style of rapping and do it well nowadays. He's in my top 5 at the current moment, and approaching top 10 dead or alive all time, personally. I don't say that lightly. If this song is just for us to "chew on until the record's built", I can't wait to see what his next album will sound like.

I haven’t seen or heard anyone say this, but I think there is added theme of NF as a “jester” - the entire music and thematic backdrop gives one a “carnival” type feel (also like in Leave Me Alone) and a lot of the irony and underlying sarcasm in some of the tones. It’s upbeat and of course the title “that’s a joke” ...all fits with the jester/joker theme. Pretty cool.

He seems to be experimenting a lot more on this mixtape than his past albums, so while I like the direction he’s going, it’s definitely not his best. The tape has some really wacky bars and no direction. There’s nothing wrong with it, but I think The Search or Therapy Session is still his best imo.

@@NotsofatTheGamer I respect that opinion and while I do believe the Search is a masterpiece I think the mixtape is amazing and I know he is definitely trying to show he has "layers " and is well rounded and not a one trick pony as some say. I love these songs and happy he is letting us hear him experiment with different sounds. To me he keeps working to perfect his craft and this mixtape shows that and that is why I consider it some of his best work....especially the features. I don't think he was trying to have a certain direction that's why it's a mixtape and not a album. I love it and look forward to hearing the album he is working on.

@@oliviatheresa Oh I don't think the mixtape is bad by any means, I think it's his 2nd or 3rd best project that he's put out. I get that mixtapes aren't suppose to have a direction but that's why I think his other albums are better. Personally, I kind of wish he would add something more to the instrumentals, since for the most part it's either stripped back with a simple bass/kick and a few strings or lushious with a movie-like production beat. I would like to see him experiment with different sounds in the future.
