The game of hearts only plays with the hearts of the players, its not about betrayal. The way they played it is actually the correct way. The rules were clear, the lambs must hide to not be found by the wolf. Which at the start, you think is stupid, as only the wolf can survive. But in reality, what the game is implying is that the lambs must hide to save the wolf. Its very poetic.

If you read the manga you actually learn that hearts games are not about betrayal. They're psychological and make you question your will to live. The instructions clearly said that the lambs should hide and they did.

as sad as this episode was, it was beautifully written. in the beginning, they built up a narrative of why these people wanted to win and get back into their normal life. they showed how much these people had to lose and why they have to live. and that just adds to how heavily that ending impacted everything, where they have to sacrifice it all just for him.

I don't understand why people says AiB has bad acting, I mean the characters were of course kinda "animated personalities" but the actir did a very good job with the emotions and the script, I think the best ones were Kento Yamazaki, Nijiro Murakami, Riisa Naka, Dori Sakurada, Aya Asahina, and the ones who plays Akane Heiya and Kyuma

I watched the show 2 times and then read the manga and I really gotta say it's an interesting adaption because... They made a lot of typical adaption choices (like cutting out a lot of character moments and games) that I don't enjoy too much but others make so much sense? Like how they changed the first game or the ugly crying in this game. In the end I think I still enjoy the manga a bit more but the series is an incredible adaption so far.

@@ot7biasedmashups Changing the first game is an interesting choice. From an entertainment/introduction aspect, I don't think it was the greatest adaptation. But it seems fairly clear that (SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA AND LIKELY THE FUTURE OF THE SHOW) the new first game is meant to foreshadow the actual reality of their situation and where they are and the purpose of retrieving the cards, which is a cool way of slowly rooting that idea.

@@xxi404 basically she played with 2 random players, they were nice to her and told her how the games work. The location is at a train yard, and each of them has to go in a train with 3 compartments. They were told that 1 compartment has poisonous gas then they were given a mask with 2 air bottles that last 3 mins each, also each compartment locks u inside for 3 mins before u can go to the next one. So that means they have to go in one of the compartments without using the mask if they wanna win. I think all of them used 1 canister at the 1st compartment then at the 2nd one shibuki risked it since she was depressed with her life and hoping the 2nd compartment has the poisonous gas, but it didnt... after that she was actually happy she didnt die and she promised herself that she has to be strong so she can survive her new world.. so long story short, she survived since she has 1 air canister left and the 3rd compartment has the poisonous gas.. she even waited for her new friends after clearing it but they didnt show up. The messed up part is that the gas is always at the last compartment.

I literally screamed and cried for at least 30 minutes when I first watched this episode. I prayed that the game could have been figured out somehow, but when Chota and Karube hid from Arisu I realized that there was nothing to be done. And that’s when I cried even more (if that's even possible) This episode literally destroyed me. I have never cried so much for any series or movie before. The thing that made this episode even sadder was that I had absolutely no idea that they would die like that and not that early on. I thought that the story of the three would continue for a long time and they would play these games together, but then this happened. It might sound weird, but I think that this shocking plot twist made the series even better. also sorry about the long comment lol.

The Hearts Games are the kinds of game that all attendances can survive. The trickiness here is that they are always applied to groups with problems. For example, if there are only 3 friends here, they could easily solve it with Arisu's intelligence. But Shibuki is the reason they can't do that.

@@atinyxstay4ever413 I subscribe to the idea that "lambs hide well" is a huge clue to how to survive it. Maybe if the original wolf closed their eyes and the others hid, the game dealer would consider that no one betraying anyone and they'd all clear. Because they repeatedly betrayed each other and especially Karube revealing his location at the end/Shibuki being held against her will until the final few seconds, meant they failed the game of not betraying each other and not following the rules. That's just my theory though. Using reflections of water feels more like a clubs game of strategy instead a game of betrayal, especially because there'd be no reason to explicitly say "hide well lambs" and that quote being shown and highlighted on screen multiple times. It definitely feels like the lambs needed to trust the wolf to not seek them out and trust in the wolf to not betray them.

Well we are socially (and biologically to a large stance) to seek our own survival, to look out for our well being as soon as we gain consciousness upon our individual existence, and is fuck*ng hard, we are in danger almost all the time and keeping our health, safety and life is a daily fight, so seeing someone willing to give all that time and effort to be alive go to “waste” for the well being of something or someone else, specially if they have the option to keep fighting for themselves, goes against everything we know and makes us ask “would I have done that?” Just to realize that most of the time our answer would be no, and that makes those who answer yes seem above amazing

If you think this episode is emotional then you really gotta read the manga. We get to spend a lot more time with the characters bc ofc there's no episode time we need to keep up with and it makes this game a lot more heartbreaking. I personally didn't even tear up the first time I watched the show because I wasn't really attached to the characters yet but on the second watch it got to me. I'd also like to add that hearts games are actually psychological games, not just games about betrayal. They make you question your will to survive and because of that people often do betray each other in order to survive but that's not the important part. For example in Shibuki's first game (2 of hearts) she and the other players are separated. They can't betray each other at all. Clubs games are also not necessarily team games. They’re balanced, so you don’t need to be particularly smart, strong or good with psychological games.

I know I’m late but my guess about Chota « being manipulated ». The woman thought it was the way to manipulate him but for Chota, having a relation hasn’t the same meaning. He saw his mother giving her money to a cult leader and f*ck him. I think deep inside, he hated the thought of having sex because it reminded him of this moment but in Borderland, he finally believed in his mother’s religion. He didn’t have sex to let himself be manipulated but to be free. In the end, he didn’t say « save us » like in his memory but « save them ».
