i don't know if anyone has mentioned to you yet but nct u is like a mix&match unit, every song under nct u has different members and a different concept. so they're not really a consistent group the same way the other subunits are. nct as a whole has 23 members and any of them can be on a nct u song

“how is so many talented people in one group” idk if anybody explained what the kpop training system is so i will ! companies either hold auditions or street cast which is where they literally see you on the street (or hear about you, like say if you’re the top student in a dance academy) and think you’re good looking and want to train you to sing/dance. (kind of sounds shallow lol but part of being an idol is your looks, to be blunt) with nct a ton of them auditioned while some got street casted at young ages, one member being only 10 when he entered the company (park jisung the youngest in nct dream who you haven’t seen yet). they give you structured singing and dancing lessons (and korean lessons if you’re a foreigner) until they feel you’re ready enough to debut into a group. the “trainee” process can take years or only months depending on the person. the longest trainee period for an nct member is johnny who trained for 8/9 years and the shortest time is chenle who trained for only 2 months. so when they debut (release their first song) they have the experience and years of hard work to back them up already i hope this makes sense lol 🤣

“why there are many talented people in kpop?” that's the difference: kpop is *NOT* a genre, it's an *INDUSTRY* and here's why: → the term kpop was given by Japanese to "digest" and understand the whole Korean industry because of tensions between the two countries (the name is modeled on the word "jpop" which means "Japanese Pop") → the term kpop, at the same time, is often used as an umbrella term to describe the whole korean popular music (rock, r&b, hip hop and pop) but at the same time us westeners think of kpop as merely idol music (NCT as a whole are idols) and idol groups usually mix many genre within a song, it's not just teen pop or bubblegum pop. → why I say kpop an industry rather than a genre? 1) every group falls on different sounds (r&b, hip hop or even metal!) 2) for the training part, Korean agencies uses the "Motown formula" to train their artists-to-be (Motown is still a label btw, but their golden era was in the 60s, with artists like The Supremes, the Jackson 5, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and many others). This formula consited on being, as Motown Wikipedia page says, "fastidiously groomed [ *_grooming as in make up and combing hair_* ], dressed and choreographed for live performances". Motown Records trained their artists very very young and unexperienced in dance, acting, vocals, they way they should talk, how to behave on national TV and overall being visually appealing. In Korea, they added also the teaching on how to rap. Also, generally, Korean agencies pay for room and board while they train them, when the groups/artists debut they took a part of the incomings as a payment for the time and money spent on the idols when they were trainees. If they achieve the first 1st win in a music show, the group will be finally paid (GENERALLY it happens like this, it varies from small to big companies) Korea, furthermore, saw the chance to expand their market (putting subtitles and in general putting effort on MVs) and now here we are, you and NCT, this reaction was possible imo of the exposure through KZbin. I hope it explains you better how kpop works >

You should watch NCT U - The 7th Sense, This is NCT U's Debut and also the first whole NCT mv. It released 5 years ago but it is still valid asf imo. (it is a wavy song and i really like wavy hip hop songs). Speaking of Wavy there's also a NCT sub unit that is Entirely chinese wich is named WayV. if you want to react to chinese version of Kpop they are really dope too, i recommend listening to WayV - Moonwalk or TakeOff or "Love talk" (its a love song, i usually dont like lovers song but this one hits different)
