It was France that wanted the ewe premium so worth while. You could claim it on a three legged barren animal. We had the emphasis on paying a premium for lambs that graded, making up the payment for a 40k lamb to £50. A butcher’s subsidy in a way. The lambs had a hole punched in the ear to prevent cunning wheeler dealers from presenting at another mart to make further claims. The ewe premium at the time in the UK was £3. France won the day with a policy that didn’t reward good production. So many EU agri policies turned out to be wide of the mark.

with the price of lamb I think the goal should be 190+ % in your lambing ewes - with the new tech you now have I think this is more achievable - you keep every twin ewe lamb and use your ear tag scanning machine and a painted T on their side once they are born to know who the keepers are - their mothers are flagged as giving twins on the ear tag scanner - all singles and triples are flagged - choose to or not to keep the triples producers (orphan lambs only cost money) - see if in the following tupping season you flush your ewes that have singles 3 weeks prior to tupping get your single lambers to have twins, - any ewe that looses a lamb and then will not take on a orphan gets a cull tag - all that technology you just have to make it work for you

It's terrible Glen that if ur farther hasn't got a farm but if there is young fellas out there wanting to farm the government have it impossible for the with the prices of land that why if they put up statics I'd say there's nobody buy farms today for there first time as the would never the the colour of money what the paid for it back out of the prices us farmers get for there livestock the government don't want any new farmers starting there's Notting in it for them only if they inheret a farm

I herd there 8 euro a kg now in factory worth feeding dident need the silage plenty nuts and they have rofage on hill want on up 1 kg a day got up to kill 18 to 20kgs kill out worth 150 to 160 euro each
