This was one of the best days riding we have had ... anywhere in the world.

Join us for the second of our back roads rides in the Scottish Borders.
In September 2023, we took a few days off work to travel up to Moffat in the Scottish Borders where we planned to do two rides exploring some of the back roads in this lovely part of the UK.
After spending much of the evening drying our gear after the torrential rain during our ride to Loch Doon, we woke to blue skies and sunshine. We left the guesthouse heading out of Moffat towards Eskalemuir where we joined the scenic B709 through the Eskdalemuir and Craik forests to Peebles. The road was one of the most scenic we've ever ridden in Scotland. Sweeping bends, fast straights made for an an amazing experience.
From Peebles we rode south to Tweedsmuir joining single track roads along the shores of the Talla and Megget reservoirs. The view from the lookout point above Talla reservoir took our breath away. The road, a ribbon of tarmac through majestic hills snaked its way down to the shores of St. Mary's Loch, where we took a break at The Glen Cafe, a very popular biking destination.
Although the sun had shone brightly all day, the rain clouds started closing in as we left St. Mary's Loch and headed back to Moffat. We got soaked again!
We've been to Scotland many times and like most, we normally head for the Highlands. This trip helped open our eyes just how amazing riding the Southern Uplands could be. Vet and I both agree that this was one of the best days of riding we have had anywhere in the world.

Stayed at the same guest house in May 23 and going back later this year. I loved this area and really enjoyed watching this video as it reminded me so much of the good times I had there.

Just came across your channel, loved watching you ride through an area that my hubby and I ride regularly. Great banter between you both too, sounds just like me and hubby on the coms including the occasional swearing 😂 Just subscribed, looking forward to seeing more of your videos 👍 Only been out once this year, we were heading towards Moffat (lunch at the Rumblin’ Tum) but the cold and the rain cut our trip short so headed to the pub in Biggar to sit by the fire and warm up 👍

Ours are wrapped up too right now. We've had a lot of strong winds and rain here in Yorkshire. As you'll see from an upcoming video, the wind was strong enough to blow the 1000 over. It's almost fixed.

The Scottish Borders has some stunning roads and scenery, great video and the banter between you both is brilliant. I run in my Royal Enfield Classic 350 around St Mary's loch and Moffat, it was a joy, it brought back good memories watching you both on the same roads. Subbed to your channel. enjoyed the video - especially because we had a week at Foulbog cottage (9 minutes) in May this year! It’s available for rent and the views are amazing. I said that I’d have to go back on one of my scooters as the roads all around there are really good. I think it’s because they have to cope with massive timber trucks.

Great video, loved the down to earth banter and your enjoyment in riding. Did this route as part of borders loop last year before moving down to Northumerland 250 then Lake District and loved it. Glad I missed the curry in Moffat though. Great watch 🙂🏍

Nice video, that’s a great route know all those roads well. Looking from the cafe the loch in front is Loch of Lowes the one across to the left is St Mary’s, we went there at the weekends as children and always referred to it as St Mary’s, the cafe back then was a little more of a shack with an ice cream kiosk on the right hand side, I am talking 60’s here. Sunday at the cafe is bike parking only.

Being a local I know those roads very well, and I enjoyed riding along with you. A slight correction on your welly song, it's not 'or infirmary' , but it's 'Royal Infirmary', which refers to the Royal Infirmary in Glasgow.
