I read from another commenter to watch out for food and eating episodes and see who has a big appetite and who eats less. It's like a metaphor for their hunger in the game. Then we see Kageyama choking on food and Bokuto stealing meat while we see Tsukki having low appetite and Kenma being forced to eat by Kuroo lol! It's so true that Haikyuu is full of symbolism.

Wow I never thought of it that way..😳😳😳 Kageyama choking on food is a perfect methapor for his "King of the court" episode in his middle school era. He tried too hard to do everything himself and rush himself and everyone around him (eating too much and didn't give himself time to chew properly). Akaashi helping him is like Karasuno helping Kageyama take a deep breath and not rushing. 😳😳

8:16 YOU ARE THE ONLY REACTOR (that I know) WHO NOTICED YAMAGUCHI REACTING TO THAT UKAI RISK-IT-ALL SERVE SPEECH. Mighty props to you!!! Another moment that no one seems to notice though is a couple of episodes ago, I think before the Tsukki backstory. Karasuno was observing Ubugawa team, the team where all the players are good servers. Ukai was explaining that the serve-and-block tactic was the next best thing after a service ace. Yamaguchi, our pinch server, was piqued by that. And who is his bestie? The upcoming cornerstone of their blocking defense: Tsukki!
@Persewna4
@Persewna4 3 ай бұрын
Yeah I'm glad he noticed Yamaguchi's reaction to that too! And good call out on that scene from the previous episode, I commented about it too on that video. I think that may play a small part in Yamaguchi's frustration with Tsukki not putting in more effort. Yamaguchi is honing his serves, an attack he makes alone, and having a blocker to partner with, to have his back when he's serving, would go a long way in expanding the range of things Yamaguchi can do with those serves.

I lost the timestamp but in Japan nicknames are not a common/respectful thing to use to adress another person, usually they're reserved for really long lasting relationships, ppl youre really close to or that you have known for a long long time, that's why tsukki doesn't want to be called like that by Bokuto or Kuroo, unlike Yamaguchi (his childhood friend) he just met both of them.

16:31 He says not to call him that since his real name is Tsukishima. "Tsukki" is a nickname, and apparently, he only lets Yamaguchi call him that affectionately and so intimately (because they are childhood friends, I suppose).
@Persewna4
@Persewna4 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, I think the fact that Yamaguchi is the only one Tsukishima lets call him Tsukki speaks to their closeness, because otherwise he comes off as neutral, even distant, in that friendship, with Yamaguchi clearly being the friend who is more invested in that relationship. So that he specifically tells other people not to use that name does imply that only Yamaguchi gets away with the nickname.

I don't think I have shared this story here, but I started watching Haikyuu during the pandemic because my daughter's girlfriend at the time was a volleyball player and was obsessed with it. So my daughter and I started to watch it. I fell in love even though IRL I have never really been a sports person. We are more and arty musical theatre family than a sports family. My daughter is a dancer, actor singer and has been since she was little. Husband is an actor (actually works for Crunchyroll on occasion) and I was an actress before becoming a mom. Sports just never came naturally to us. Watching Haikyuu made me want to go watch the girlfriend play volleyball. Unfortunately because of lockdown there were no games at the time and they broke up before that could happen. But I feel because of this show I could go watch a game and actually understand what is going on. This anime did more to educate me than years of PE class lol. I love this episode. I don't know why this one has always ranked high as nothing really happens. I love watching the camaraderie of the barbecue! Excited to see the tournament with you!

Japanese language and culture puts a lot of importance in social distance (the figurative distance, not the literal one lmao). Your age and level of closeness to a person matters to how you may address them. Of course, I feel like the younger generation is a lot less strict, but depending on the individual, they'll be less receptive to people addressing them casually with nicknames; and Tsukishima happens to be one of those people XDD In his head, the only one that gets to call him "Tsukki" is Yamaguchi. At least right now XDDD

Ohh, I completely passed over it during the last tournament! 😂 Small detail, but. While Karasuno is slowly making a bit of a name for themselves between certain schools at least, overall they still haven't made that much of an impact on a larger level compared to a lot of powerhouses. We've seen them called "the flightless birds" by some schools, for their fallen powerhouse reputation, but they're pretty much unknown between just as many. It's small things reminding us that a lot of other teams don't really know who Karasuno IS, yet. That's great, because we get to see how that impact changes across the series, as out boys grow and change, too! It happened during the last tournament too, and again just now, some teams misreading their team name. Specifically, they're misreading "Karasuno" as "Torino". That's because the "Karasu" in Karasuno, the character that means "crow", is written like this 烏. Meanwhile, "Tori", meaning bird, is written as 鳥. A single line is different between the two characters, in Japanese, making it a really easy mistake for players who glance at the name without looking really closely, but it's also a mistake that someone who knew about Karasuno already wouldn't make, showing that while for the viewers, it's easy to get caught up in knowing how strong our boys are getting, there's still a big world outside of them within the show, and plenty of teams with their own things going on who don't never even heard about Karasuno before. There's a lot of people, all with their own stories and issues. Some, we get to see intersect. Some are over before we ever meet them (makes me think about season one episode 16 again :') ). As for Tsukki's brother, you do have to remember that, while we only just found out about his and Tsukki's past, for them, it happened at least a year ago, if not several. It's not that he's unbothered, but the immediate reactions and big feelings already happened at some point in the past. Time has gone by. They're not gonna act like it only just happen, and he can't linger on that event forever, either. In fact, I think it's important to see that he moved on. That time passed, and while that event sucked, he didn't stay stuck in that. We have to keep going after all. That's something Tsukki can stand to learn, too, I think. Oh, also also 😂 about Tsukki telling Bokuto not to call him that. I was talking about Japanese forms of address a while back, and respect. It's essentially that "Tsukki", being essentially a nickname, is a really in-formal way of calling him. Coming from Bokuto, it's being friendly, and it does show how Bokuto isn't really bothered with formality and stuff like that; you can tell even from his attitude that he's a pretty casual person 😂 so using a nickname does presume some level of closeness. You'll notice that outside of Yamahuchi, even others in Karasuno don't call him "Tsukki". It's Bokuto's way of being friendly though, even if to Tsukki, it comes across as a bit presumptuous 😂 you'll notice he doesn't really insist on the point after throwing in the one comment, though.

Of all the anime training arcs, I feel like this one in Haikyuu was the best. So many characters have grown and evolved, we got to meet a lot of cool people, we learned some new moves, it's excellent. Seeing how fun the game is, it makes me a little jealous I can't play volleyball. I got a back-injury a few years ago and so now I can't really run or jump. Still, it's nice living vicariously through our fictional anime team and hearing / seeing all your cool stories about the sport.

Geography lesson time: Tohoku where Karasuno and Ushiwaka is the northern bit of the main japanese island. Kyushu where Kiryu is from is the southernmost island and Sakusa is from Kanto which is the Tokyo area. They mentioned Sakusa is from Itachiyama - rememeber the name for some future contexts - they never remind you who this team is Tsukki just doesnt appreciate how familiar Bokuto is with him :D I feel like the relationship between Tsukki and his brother is very realistic - of course there is no tension or anything, but its very awkward. I also like that while Tsukki carried that baggage, his brother was mature enough to eventually get over it and move on. Afterall teenager->adult deals with trauma way easier than a child->teenager

I was introduced to volleyball in P.E. class for the first time as a teenager in the UK. I was tall and athletic so everyone expected me to be brilliant 😅 I was not!!! I had no coordination of my limbs and digging hurt my bony joints 😢 this made me develop an aversion to the sport and I didn't watch Haikyu for many years due to this. But when I did it instantly became one of my favourite shows ever. It's my comfort show that I watch anytime I'm low and disillusioned with the world. This show is so much more than just volleyball. There's a beauty in how they share everyone's story and struggles and give their issues the space to breathe and be acknowledged as a necessary and beautiful part of life and the sport. I now watch Volleyball religiously and Haikyu reactions too. My little thing I do for me 😊

This is such a good, wholesome episode that puts the characters and their relationships front-and-center, wrapping up one chapter before they head for the next one. I don't play sports, I don't watch sports, but watching Haikyuu helps me understand what it's like to be excited to watch a game. It all comes back to the characters and their stories. I actually did find myself watching beach volleyball on tv a couple weeks ago and I was pleasantly surprised to find it easy to follow along, and got carried away by the match. I've even started looking into what's available in my local area for a beginner, and while I haven't had a chance to go yet, there are a bunch of different options and opportunities, so hopefully one of these days! Kuroo's voice made me miss Gojo 😢. The captains being a pushy uncle and they really enjoying it a lot. 14:41 It happened to me in highschool, one of the bystander almost called a teacher because they thought the guys was trying to bully me or something. But they were my classmates (imagine a 4'11 me surrounded by 6'+ and near 6 feet highschool boys who looks like a yankie) and they were beg- asking for help because I was one of the group leaders, in order for them to pass one of our subject. They're also the reason why I have bad reputation to the students on our school (aside that I have a snarky attitude). They look like gangsters and people thought I was one too because they saw me reprimand them or walking infront of them (people watched too many kdramas and anime that time 😅). Arggh. I miss my highschool days and my bros. We also have an Asahi to our group😂

20:18 So there are two stages of qualifiers for the Spring Nationals. The first stage takes place in August. The top 8 teams from the Summer Interhigh qualifiers (like Aoba Johsai and Shiratorizawa) are exempted from this stage. The top 16 teams (the 8 teams that lost to the top 8 teams) get a bye in the first round. The 48 remaining teams play in the first round, with 24 teams advancing to second round, joined by the top 16 teams, making it 32 teams. They then play two more rounds, with 8 teams remaining that move to second stage. Second stage takes place in October, with the top 8 teams plus the 8 teams that survived first stage. They play four rounds until one team remains that qualifies for Spring Nationals.

@@lachyywhite I played the pokemon card game as a kid for my first game. I asked my mom to take me to tournaments. At 12 years old I was beating not only kids my age but even older teenagers and adults. I even won 7 tournaments in a row. It was the first time in my life i was better than most people at something competitive. As a kid I had VERY lil confidence, the school system had convinced me I wasn't smart. Then when i was 13 yugioh came out and i started playing that, and again I was winning tournaments. Around that time my mom after years got the school to give me an IQ test. Turned out I had above average intelligence. It was real turning point for me as a person, to learn there had never anything wrong with me, it was the way ud been treated that was wrong. I dont wanna take too long "bragging" about all my accomplishments Ive had but ive played alot of games, mostly yugioh and later in life cardfight vanguard. I owe ALOT to the hobby, it taught me confidence, ive made countless friends, and traveled the world. If you actually read all this, I appreciate you lol.

I was about to pANIC thinking you forgot our most pathetic emo himbo mini-Bokuto to watch the episode with Calling the Akaashi setter dump right before it happened, he's really the best to ever do it 🤣 They're all such goofballs this episode I love the team dynamic so much 😭 oh my god Tsukki's little quips getting a chuckle from Lachy?? The tides they are a-changin. Yachi had me rolling this episode for sure lmao. I hate to say it for Ushiwaka, I really do, but....BARK BARK BARK WOOF WOOF

You should drop that other show with that "hated character" it's not that good. Haha but for reals, Haikyuu does a great job respecting the female characters. 3 manager arcs in a show about boys hs volleyball isn't bad.

my husband reading that dump! (people that don't watch your twitch streams are gonna be so confused 😂) Edit: I wouldn't say it's jojo art, but I get why you think that, and trust me, you could throw jojo on the list of anime to watch, it's awesome!
