I'm from Germany and this footage from the old Gamescom is something I still remember! I was there back then and got the game for my birthday, I was so super excited and played it a lot with a friend and my mother :) I remember her not understanding why we were supposed to work together at the Mustafar mission so she always tried to attack me because she wanted to reenact the Episode III battle scene haha I was also a bit mad because the game showed really cool scenes and at the same time I loved LEGO, but there wasn't amazing stuff out like the magna guards or clone trooper battlepacks, so I had to play the clone wars with like 3 clones and 6 droids :(

Daaamn, you were at the Gamescom back then? That's awesome! I was too young, well, actually not, I was 5 years old when the game came out but still got to play it a few years later. I also got the game for my birthday, still can remember how happy I was about it. A friend of mine got to known Star Wars only through playing LEGO Star Wars together with me, he even didn't like it first :D Just played the game again a few days ago, but LEGO Star Wars II kinda doesn't like to start anymore. Well, maybe when I try it with a later Windows on a better machine it might work again, it's my old one with Windows XP xD From where in Germany are you from approximately?

@@Blentux I'm living near Leipzig, it's in central Germany and the Gamescom was there until 2010 or 2009, I was there every year and they moved it to Köln after that haha .. You could actually play stuff back then, at least I don't remember waiting hours to play The Force Unleashed or Lego Star Wars, I was a child back then too haha I'm really excited for the new Lego Star Wars game :D

This is true, while there is no doubting the initial popularity of Lego Star Wars, that license doesn't come free and it doesn't come cheap. Profit margins on Legos own properties were much higher since they didn't have to give anyone else (Lucasfilm) a cut of the Revenue. In the long term, Star Wars paved the way for licensed themes that have become one of Legos most popular offerings. However, they did not do much to help out Legos desperate financial situation in the early 2000's.

I got this game when it first released. My father had it pre-ordered, and the store had never even heard of it, they had to look it up to see if it was real. I was so stupid back then that I couldn't figure out anything. It took me maybe weeks before I figured out that in Ep1 Ch5 I had to destroy a plant to reveal a grapple target, thus meaning I wasn't able to finish the level until then. Also, you couldn't build things, ride vehicles, or create characters in the original. Those features were introduced in LEGO Star Wars II.

I remember playing this game originally on a super old dust-caked Dell computer when it originally came out. Back when disc drives existed in PC's. I usually state that this game was my first game for the PC, and really set off my love for PC gaming as a whole. I'm really grateful for this game, and it has a warm place in my heart for the fun and adventures I had within it. Honestly, this is probably my first experience with Star Wars too, as I was too young to understand the movies. The fun Lego theme along with the funny moments and lack of talking made me fall in love with the game, and Star Wars even more.

Lego star wars was my first game from lego interactive on the ps2 since I was young at heart from being a 9 year old child playing this from a free demo trial at a Target retail store to knowingly preserving ourselves as fans of getting this game on early console generation was incredible to me. Because it was released back in 2005, they should have put it in the backwards compatibility section of the Xbox one library since no one has this game on there but my expectations are that the developers should entice a more broader look on graphic design and just improve on the earlier version of Lego star wars in 2005. I believe that Lego star wars was if the not the greatest implementation ever to gain a lot of wrong about this game. It is for fact if you were born in 90s to late 90s you were able to see this game come to life.✊💖

When you mentioned playing the original LEGO Star Wars on your ps2, it brought me back to my childhood playing that game and the original trilogy immediately. I remembered it so fondly playing it in my bedroom on my blocky tv with my ps2 next to it, putting the disc into the console and played it. I recently played it again at a friends house on his ps3 and loved every second of it and started crying. Even now writing this comment I am crying tears of joy just thinking about it. I wish I had the both games again just to play them. Heck, I’d get them on pc if I could find them.

I was one of the OGs, I played the demo of Lego Star Wars 2 (Original Trilogy) on my PS2. I liked it so much I asked my dad to buy me the full game. Then I found out that there was another one, Lego Star Wars 1. I got that game. Mind you that these were my first exposure to Star Wars and without these games, I doubt I would have the same love or affection for Star Wars if I hadn't played those two games. I still wish I could play those two games separately on Steam, I miss Dexter's Diner from the first game and I miss the Mos Eisley lobby from the 2nd one. What I feel made these two games so good are the following: - Simplicity - Slight comedic touch - Simple visual style - No dialogue and of course, the custom character you could build in Lego Star Wars 2. It was pretty much a kid's wet dream. Living and moving toys that looked simple enough to resemble toys and the fact that they were funny and adorable. It was made for kids to consume. Wasn't too much or too little. Just right. I'll probably let my kids play those 2 LEGO games before watching Star Wars.

Totally agree. But how could you play the demo on the PS2? Did you found it on some other games disc? Well, you could get both games on Disc when you have problems with steam. They're still around. I think I might have to buy LSW 2 again because mine doesn't start anymore, it doesn't stop loading. I had already seen the Prequels when I played the game for the first time. It doesn't make a big difference I think.

That's true. I played it again a few days ago and I still have no idea how to get the one minikit up in the air of this hall in Episode 1 chapter 6, when you get over the bridge. I also tried getting up these platforms with the force and flying over to that minikit with R2, but either I'm too foolish to get it or it's impossible the way I tried xD

I hope they bring back that Droid mechanic where if you're a droid the others won't attack. A lot of stuff from the OG Lego Star Wars was removed from later games like the unique saver combat moves. Every character felt different unlike in the Force Awakens. Hope they bring super combos back too

Honestly the charm of this game comes from how simple it is. The game itself, I think, objectively, doesn’t hold up super well. It has an immense amount of charm however. The mechanics, the story, the puzzles, it’s all as simple as it could possibly be. No game can be that charming anymore just because of how far LEGO has come since then.
