The hail to snow change is pretty good, it has opened up potential for avalugg becoming unkillable on physical side. One thing i do wish for is frostbite replacing freeze and snow doubling the frostbite chance of moves.

Losing the chip damage is big imo Snow gives the Def buff to ice types, but Sand gives the same type of defense buff to rock types but for special Def instead WHILE ALSO giving chip.
@juliand.5892
@juliand.5892 2 жыл бұрын
@@Magetastic69 Right, but that chip damage also hurts your other Pokemon, which is the buff people refer to. Being able to set up Aurora Veil or go for moves like Blizzard without putting your non Ice-type Pokémon at risk of chip is actually more helpful than the chip you get on enemies. It also creates a larger distinction between the two weather conditions, which were otherwise the same just for different types.
@Magetastic69
@Magetastic69 2 жыл бұрын
@@juliand.5892 Nah, its a nerf losing damage that would otherwise break sashes etc. You bring the hail / snow, YOU plan around it because you brought it and you just don't bring things that its a negative for. It's like saying losing your left hand is okay in a fight because now you're more specialized in a right meanwhile your opponent has 2 hands. Losing the chip means sand is BETTER than snow because it brings more utility. It's just a dumb take. You can bring more non ice types if that's your point, but then you arent even getting the defense increase which means its doing nothing except set up for veil or blizzard spam.

@Natsuo I couldn’t agree more, since playing this season. I have been hit with some nasty freeze hacks, getting full frozen three turns while I watched my poor mons faint.
@mystery5906

the problem with hail was that planning around the chip damage on your side was too restricting on team building; it meant bringing multiple ice types (the worst type), not having focus sash on anyone but ice types, having to give mons safety goggles just to save them from your own chip, etc. snow lets you buff your ice types/blizzard+set up aurora veil without limiting team composition. snow also has a better matchup against sand than hail did, because it lets you deny their chip damage. hail had a niche, and snow doesnt quite fit that same niche, but its more useful in more situations now. i think it would be interesting if hail made a return as its own entity separate from weather, similar to tailwind and toxic spikes, where you can manually activate it on your opponents side for 1/16 damage for 5 turns.

Thank you for getting me back into Pokemon, I recently wanted to get into competitive pokemon so I made a double weather team, Rain/Snow and to answer the question. Especially against physical attackers

Love this team! Killowattrel is my favorite gen 9 mon I’m so glad it’s having its time to shine! Also this team is surprisingly good into the Armorogue/Indeedee Trick Room set up, even a lot of the TR oriented teams struggle against this. Garchomp Tera EQ+ Blizzard/Discharge just hits so hard. Armarougue likes to tera grass from what I’ve seen, so having ground/ice to pressure big damage either in its normal form or tera form creates a mind game your opponent can struggle against, and if they call it wrong they’re in huge trouble. Even a dragon claw/t-bolt can be good. I also ran into that TR team you played twice, I found it best to go Kilowattrel/Garchomp. Sash protects Kilo and Garchomp has enough HP to survive a Gambit. Target a t-bolt into Guru/Mim, Tera/EQ Garchomp, then you’re in position to just sweep through the team with Garchomp after a double KO. Aboma/Rotom in the back to reset Weather, Rotom/Garchomp is just so difficult to handle in an end game where your opponent has to play a 2v4 essentially. Just my thoughts on it. I was up all night playing (got to 715 on ladder!!) so sorry if i explained some stuff poorly 😂 Also thank you again aaron i wouldn’t have gotten to this level of play without your guidance ❤

I love love love the eterna forest music at the start of vids, makes me so happy! QOTD: I think it's overall still a bit underwhelming. I personally made a change to it in a romhack to heal ice types a bit per turn while retaining its original damage function, but I think now the 50% def boost + the little heal would make it just as competitive in both singles and doubles as the other weathers
@michaelkarim57

I really liked the change to hail -> snow, I think the removed damage allows hail setups to be more flexible(not ruining non-ice type sashes or worry about general residual damage). I really wish they did a bit more with the type, notably giving Ice types a resistance to Water even wider distribution of ice spinner(not even the region's pseudo legendary ice type gets it). This also goes without mentioning that they excluded the best snow setter in Ninetales from the dex, leaving only Abomasnow who has a horrible typing and stat spread that's still incredibly suspectible to powercreep.
@Fathomorg
@Fathomorg 2 жыл бұрын
The hail buff into snow is appreciated, but still not quite where it needs to be to compete with other weathers. The most notable problem is that it still only really benefits ice types. It's a lot easier to build effective teams when you have a wide variety of types; sun benefits fire, grass, and anything else weak to water, rain benefits water and anything weak to fire, and sand benefits rock, ground, and steel types. Plus, with the introduction of Protosynthesis, the viability of sun just got improved even further. Electric terrain teams are likely more viable than snow teams when you play around quark drive.

@@kitsuneprincess4637 Because chip damage invalidates your focus sashes and becomes a hindrance for you unless you have multiple ice types, which is not convenient whether you have hail or not. Sand is different in that regard because it benefits three different types, all of which excel at different things (rock offensively, ground and steel defensively). I think the hail change is really great. The increase in defense is obviously a great addition, but I think the lack of chip damage is also actually beneficial and not talked about enough. I think removing the chip damage is ultimately more beneficial for hail teams than it is a detriment. I think allowing you to use focus sash gives you a greater diversity of options in teambuilding that ultimately trumps denying an opponent's focus sash. It also allows your frail ice types to terastalise into a non-ice type and still benefit from sash, such as boosting a weavile's dark type moves. Finally, it allows you to optimally EV your non-ice types to deal with threats to your hail core, without having to allocate additional bulk just to live a turn or 2 of hail chip damage. Ultimately, I think the changes just give hail more options in team building thus leading to a more fun and diverse metagame.
