53:23 -- The fact that spore worked on Goldengo even though Weezing switched out shows that the ability Good as Gold did not come into action until the next turn. This also explains the Mycelium Might interaction -- wherein this kicks in only on the turn _after_ weezing switches out
@maxlimit9129Ай бұрын
Actually, Mycelium Might ignores Good As Gold anyway so Toed can always spore Ghold
@eonblue9713Ай бұрын
@@maxlimit9129 Oh wow, you're right! So either one of the two things happened to explain what happened: (i) Both Mycelium Might & Good as Gold did not come into play until the next turn on switching Weezing out, or (ii) Both Mycelium Might & Good as Gold came into play immediately, but there was the weird speed interaction similar to lagging tail that caused Spore not to go last like Wolfe mentions. I guess it should not be difficult to test out (i) to verify which of the two's happening -- i.e. switch out Weezing and use a status move (not from Toedscruel) on Goldengo to see if Good as Gold activates or not
@88porpoiseАй бұрын
I would guess that Mycelium Might is applied at the start of the turn. In this case, before Wheezing left the field. And, while speed is recalculated,yceloum Might is not reapplied
@justlynch7381Ай бұрын
@@88porpoise I was thinking, does Mycelium Might maybe not affect the speed itself? I mean, it's different from Swift Swim (and Tailwind, for that matter), in that it just says the user goes "last" (within its priority). If "last" is realized in some other way than speed, then this other way is most likely not affected by the dynamic changes to speed, because Mycelium Might never took part in the speed calculation. Because also, how would you implement "last" using the speed stat, virtually set it to 0 and wait until some other effect most likely messes with that again? Doubling a speed stat is straight-forward, but "last" actually depends on what else is on the field.
@rayveewrites6268Ай бұрын
Is it possible Mycelium Might (+ Lagging Tail and Quash) works with the priority system in some way? I could see GF not wanting to mess with that when they added dynamic speed, because then things would probably get very buggy very quickly.

What is really amazing to me is that despite having won Worlds "only" once what feels a lifetime ago, you are a major influence on the format to this day. Often by unleashing what's best described as "evil" teams that force adaptation. With every year of Scarlet and Violet so far having been changed by one of your teams. Not to mention that you remain one of the consistently best players at major events, evil team or not. Having a record of 9 Regionals under your belt being the best evidence for this. And on top of that you have made VGC accessible to those that will never play. Without mentioning those that have started because of you, like this patreon subscriber. And while I hope that you will break double digits before the next Worlds, you have already made a lot of history. With me staying to witness what is yet to come.

Your tournament videos have a very good flow to them and are really interesting to listen to, even for someone like me who will probably never play pokemon competitively. @samamies88Ай бұрын
Isn't it just the A/B thing? There are multiple thumbnails. U see some of them rn, someone else sees the other versions (iirc sometimes KZbin have more than 2). I sometimes see different thumbnail on my pc than mobile on same day on same account. Wolfy at least in past did AB testing (iirc there even was pinned comment on one of the videos about it) - am not sure if he stopped but if he still does it then that would explain why u see different thumbnail now and another later.

About the topic around 50:00, if the change is making the pokemon "move last" then that's not necessarily a speed change which could explain why it doesn't update till the next turn.

Somebody else has probably already commented about this by now, but Mycelium Might and Lagging Tail are both really weirdly specific in their functionality, which is probably why the dynamic speed effects don't apply for them. We know that speed is allowed to change mid-turn as you explained, and we also know that priority brackets are allowed to change mid-turn because moves like Quash exist that do this. But Mycelium Might and Lagging Tail both belong to a group of items and abilities that affect a Pokemon's _sub-priority bracket_ as I would call it. They don't affect a Pokemon's speed nor a Pokemon's priority bracket, but they instead put a Pokemon into a state where it will always move first or last within the priority bracket that it is in. The items/abilities in this group are the Quick Claw, Custap Berry, Full Incense, Lagging Tail, the Stall ability, the Quick Draw Ability, and the Mycelium Might ability. I imagine that these exact 7 items and abilities are unaffected by mid-turn changes because they act independently of speed and priority.

I love how in depth you go with the team building. This is by far my favourite part of any game - what can the characters do, who do they synergize with, what strategies can come out of it? Sometimes team building is more fun than actually using the team, lmao. Especially doing what you do and starting with one (often weird) pick and then building around it, to make it as good as possible.

53:06 actually the right play statistically Selecting Eruption means a 50% chance for Eruption and a 50% chance for nothing Selecting Sleep Talk means a 1/6 chance for Eruption, 1/6 chance for Shadow Ball, 1/6 chance for Heat Wave, and a 50% chance for nothing. Basically choosing Eruption is better because they have the same risk, but Eruption has a guarantee to do the most damage.

This is genuinely what inspired me to stick with my desire to play pokemon that I find fun. I cannot play what's meta. It feels "phony" because it's the team composition that carries me to victory, not so much genuine thinking about every aspect of my team's strengths and weaknesses. Watched this whole thing through. Really enjoyed this video, the way you outlined it, as well as the minimal editing involved.

There was absolutely no "minimal editing". They had to recreate and cut together entire battles. I'm sure the editing process was 90% of the work on this video
