A MAJOR tornado outbreak remains possible today across the Central and Southern Plains. Strong to violent, long-track tornadoes, giant hail, and hurricane-force wind gusts will be possible. The severe weather shifts east into parts of the Eastern U.S. on Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day). I also look ahead to the weather pattern in early June!

I'm in central Illinois. I've got a whole tree uprooted in my yard from the winds and storms on Tues. I'm hoping I can get the majority of it cut up today before the strong weather hits on Sunday. At least I don't have to be concerned about the tree coming down with strong winds anymore!

Looks like a line of storms Sunday morning and then again Sunday afternoon/evening. Damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail of quarter-size or larger, and a few tornadoes possible with both lines of storms on Sunday.

Low potential for damaging winds to 60 mph and quarter-size hail tomorrow morning with a line of thunderstorms moving east out of Iowa and Missouri into Illinois. Additional severe storms possible tomorrow afternoon/evening. The second round of storms is more favored across downstate Illinois (Central and Southern Illinois).

We are approaching the twentieth anniversary of the Memorial Day tornado outbreak which was May 30, 2004. There was over 100 tornado reported and the Indianapolis 500 had a rain delay and was stopped more than halfway through the race because of a Tornado warning for the area.

A complex of severe storms should begin to develop this evening/overnight. Damaging winds over 75 mph, large hail to possibly 4” diameter and a few tornadoes possible. A strong tornado cannot be ruled out.

Storms will be moving through overnight (mainly after midnight). Damaging winds and large hail would be the primary hazards. The tornado risk should remain low. But I wouldn't rule out a few tornadoes being possible as the line of thunderstorms moves through early in the morning on Sunday.

It’s going to be an above-average Summer for much of the United States, especially in July and August.

Like shouldn’t some summers be cooler than others? I know for a fact that you said that El Niño summers are hotter than normal. Now it is a La Niña summer and you’re still predicting it to be hot! I am done!

Yes, El Nino and La Nina's can still impact the weather patterns during the warm season, it's not as pronounced as the Fall and Winter seasons. We're also not in a La Nina currently, we're in an ENSO-Neutral pattern. And even if La Nina began next month, it would take several weeks to notice a difference in the pattern. It doesn't happen automatically.

Severe weather will be possible in Dallas area this evening. It depends on if the cap breaks or not that far south. Strong to violent, long-track tornadoes, giant hailstones possibly up to 5” diameter, and wind gusts of 60 to 75 mph will be possible if storms develop.
