I'm 26 now, and I had really rough teenage years with anxiety and depression and overall just feeling very angry. I can absolutely say, it does get better. You learn so much about yourself and about how to cope and manage your mental health, and although it may not completely go away, you lean to have an emotional intelligence a lot of people don't have, and an understanding of so many feelings and how to manage them. Try to understand and accept your mental health and acknowledge that it's something you WILL learn to manage, allow you to be a more empathetic person and that you aren't alone. Stay strong, learn as much as you can about yourself and what you like. At your age that's the most important thing. :)

"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children" THANK YOU!!! Content creators are here to provide entertainment in whatever form is easily created by them and best consumed by audiences. Parents are responsible for teaching and reinforcing the appropriate messages, worldviews, themes, and ideas that they want their children to take from the content THEY CURATE for their children and, if a particular creator's content either does not align with or runs contrary to those goals, then it is a parent's responsibility not only to monitor children's viewing habits, but to explain in a rational way why children should not appreciate the messages put forth. If we all followed this, then no one would ever need to be worried about creators "sending the wrong messages" or "indoctrinating children" because we'd all be pointing ourselves and our children to content that reinforces what we truly believe to be positive messages. The only argument that is relevant here is that content platforms need to stop selectively censoring messages that THEY disagree with and put the job of monitoring and curating content back in the hands of viewers and parents.

For that "positive message" thing, I can attest that your videos and your content has made me rethink some of the nasty things in my brain, and reshaped those thoughts to be healthy again, you put out ideas of good, and it's really just up to the viewer to decide whether they will accept those ideas or not. This man, Jacksepticeye, is genuinely one of the only KZbinrs left, who actually shares his good will, a great instance of this is one of the videos he did donating to smaller streamers, he started it by saying (basically, not exact wording) "I don't feel very happy today, so I'm going to make other people happy and donate to them". If that is not one of the most pure and kind things to do, then this world is fucked and I don't want to exist with the people who can't see that, JUST because he says "bad words". The message is the importance, but those people just see a loud man saying fuck, like? Okay? I've seen hundreds of people saying in his comments that watching his videos helped them through really hard times, I can also attest to this, life gets hard, mental health is difficult to figure out, but having someone spreading a message about "positive mental attitude" is so much more impactful than someone saying curse words. I don't know who shoved a stick in whoever wrote that reviews butt, but I hope they can get it removed and learn to enjoy life again.

I’m a forty-seven year old woman, with no kids, who’s sick and tired of far less understanding people (unlike yourself) complaining about adult content from adult creators when KZbin Kids exists! I honestly think this rating site pissed me off more than it did Seán! I found his Channel in 2017, but have made a valiant attempt to catch up on as many previous videos/ series as I can. And, at no time whatsoever, did Seán *EVER* pander to children. But it’s like he already said: Most of these negative reviews stem from people who have “an obscured line of sight.” One insignificant thing like swearing- Seán was twenty-two when he started doing KZbin; that’s considered an adult age in *EVERY* part of the World- and the people who take issue with that never bother to see all the good that Seán, and others like him, have done. That quote, by the way, is from a one-off game Seán played in 2017 called Far From Noise: An extremely powerful and emotional game during which the all-too-relatable struggles of the protagonist made Seán cry! I’m willing to bet that none of these parents saw that video… or Presentable Liberty… or That Dragon, Cancer… A Normal Lost Phone… You Left Me… Missed Messages… The list goes on and on! Wow! This *REALLY* pissed me off! I think I need to go meditate. Before I keep going down this rabbit hole, let me just say thank you for your supportive message. I think it shows how many teenage/adult people love this channel. With the bad reviews rather coming from children that got taught "swearing = bad" and only being able to think of that it is actually kind of wholesome that many children care about their behavior. I had no problems letting my kids watch any of his content when they were younger, except for when I had migraines and they would just use their headphones. He’s a great inspiration when it comes to opening up communication with teens and young adults about their mental health. There’s more to him than just the cursing and violent video games that some of the negative reviewers want to focus on. Fun story: when my youngest found out we had Irish ancestors, his first reaction was “you mean I’m just like Jack?”. Here's a review: You were the first content creator on KZbin that I started watching regularly back in 2014. At that time in my life I was stuck in an abusive relationship and while walking around on eggshells constantly lost myself along the way. You brought some positivity and good vibes back into my life at a time where I needed it most. Now granted other things played into it, but you being there for me at the right place at the right time back then was a big part of why I had the strength to get out of that situation. You bring a lot of light into the world by being a very genuine and caring person. I only wish you well and I'm so incredibly grateful to you for the influence you've had on my life. 🌸

Those reviews reeeally surprised me because I never thought that Seàn swears too much. And even more importantly- when he does swear, it's never aimed at another person or offensive. Just your regular "oh fuck" is completely normal and fine. There are a ton of youtubers who think it's funny to constantly crack racist/sexist/homophobic jokes and offend one another and think it's okay because "I have a friend who is black so I cannot be racist and it's all good" and THAT is very uncomfortable and wrong IMO. Jack NEVER does that and what is more, he goes out of his way to express his support for communities like the LGBTQ+ Community and for the black lives matter movement and so on. Not to mention all the charity work. Also, Jack is fucking funny and overall a very nice guy. 10/10 would recommend :)
@darianbarber37633 жыл бұрын
It's a sort of common sense thing my mom grew me up on when I got older. Even though she doesn't swear almost ever, it was only late highschool she ever would. The common sense rule was to not direct it at someone and using it more as an expression rather then a label. It might have also helped that my older brother played L.O.L. You kinda get use to hearing actual rage and it always made me uncomfortable even in another room.

I've used Common Sense media in my job, but this is pretty ridiculous. When working as a children's librarian, parents will ask you if you recommend media all the time and you can't see/review all of it, so this site was helpful for knowing what content they might have a problem with (like Goonies, for example... why did we all think this was super kid friendly? lol). Then you can let them know there might be some "adult" things, but at the end we always told them each parent gets to decide what they feel comfortable with and that they should enjoy content with them so they can start discussions if necessary. But you are a person!? it feels really shady to rate people who are playing as themselves, as if they can be defined down to a number. How would you feel, Kelly? Shall we rate your parenting skills while we're at it? Honestly, it seems what they find the most offensive is the actual video games you're playing, in which case, maybe just monitor what games your kid is playing?

I found Jack when I was at one of the lowest points in my life. Him and his videos were a huge part of what kept me from ending it all, as cliche as it sounds. I was terrified of my mom finding out I was watching him because of the swearing and adult jokes, but thankfully my mom actually took the time to watch his content with me, and she understood why his content helped (and still helps) me so much. I'm so grateful that she wasn't like these Karens on the review site. Jack, if you're somehow reading this, don't let these negative reviews get to you. I'm almost completely sure that these people have never taken the time to watch a single one of your videos and learn what kind of person you actually are. This just shows how out of touch some parents can be. My son is 14 and he has be watching Seán since he was about 8. I've never had a problem with his content because I taught my son that KZbin is for entertainment and just because an adult swears, doesn't mean it's OK for a child to do so. Even my 6 year old daughter will watch a jacksepticeye video every now and then. As a matter of fact, I'm a subscriber and I think I watch his videos more than my kids! I love him! He's funny, engaging, kind and genuine! He keeps me company during the day when the kids are at school and I'm doing whatever around the house. And whenever I need a good laugh, you can find me watching a jacksepticeye video or game grumps. They never fail to make me laugh! I hope Seán continues to grow and make content for as long as it makes him happy to do so!

Kids pick up their environments words mainly. My baby brother who’s five has said fuck a few times. My mom, who swears like a sailor when she has road rage, points blame at me but I learned these words from her and so has he. Parents find it easier to blame everything else other than themselves because no parents wants to think hey I’m not that great of a parent. Especially those that use these websites.
@darianbarber37633 жыл бұрын
I remember growing up at really young ages some words like bitch ect I don't think I knew the meaning of. But, most of them even at that age were common sense, if your old enough to somewhat wrap your mind around sex you already understand atleast half of the most common swear words. I think I learned them more from peers growing up, but the early 2000's were a different time almost, most of the kids I knew were irl, many kids wouldn't get phones till like 6th grade then and atleast my parents somewhat understood the media kids would consume because most of it was on the TV with a strict time limit. When I went to a friend's house to play MW3, his parents knew we were playing mw3 and would legit kick us out on nice days to do other shit . Nowadays I don't think parents don't know what the flying fuck there kids can find online. You can't child proof the internet but what you can do is when that kid is bored and driving you insane, don't thrust a tablet at them and use that as a distraction. ( my mom's reaction to the words I'm bored would follow with a list of potential chores that shut that shit down real fast.). It's the shittiest style of parenting I've ever seen. At very young ages it's asking for mental and social problems along with addiction and from what I've seen on the sidelines, actual kid's content is the most cancerous neurodegeneritive shit I've ever seen. I'd shoot myself before playing cocomelon for some kid.

As a parent that both watches this wonderful man and allows her kids to watch him as well, I wholeheartedly disagree with the 1 star rating. Besides the fact you need to check what your kids are watching, Jack is a positive voice in my kids' life. and yeah my kids already knew most of the words, and it helps open up some fun discussions about language!

Also a parent and I do the same. My older children watch him and my 7 year old loves him. He has autism and we use MeMe Time song to help prepare him for things like bed time or bath time that he's not exactly a fan of.
