I really hope that if a new Everquest is made that the art style retains a somewhat retro style. There is something about retro graphics that capture your imagination much more than the most polished, photorealistic newer games can. The original Everquest still looks beautiful and is so enjoyable to be immersed in it's world. I only wish for some more QoL graphical updates such as longer view distances, character model with more vertices, and more animations. But also, avoid making it look too cartoony overall as it did in Everquest Next and WoW. There's definitely a reason why indie retro games are very popular at the moment, and AAA games with high levels of detail feel soulless. A retro art style is awesome. Not to say let's make it look the same as Everquest, but remember that art style is a big part of the magic of Everquest.

All I want is Kunark and Velius era, P99 everquest. With new engine, new models, further render distance. The game will pay for itself - - and then some. I don't want to play newer games. I want everquest classic. Everquest classic + some more turn-in quests.

The core gameplay loop of EQ1 is what has kept it going this long. It's still fun. It's also why EQ2 never took off in the same way. It's core gameplay loop...isn't? The content is great, it's pretty, tons of good lore, great dungeon design, etc. but that core gameplay loop just gets old quick. Getting people together, killing mobs while you tunnel through a dungeon just to set up camp in the back corner for a few hours while you BS with old friends and new ones will never, ever get old. There is beauty in simplicity and EQ shows that. Lets hope the DPG team finds good inspiration and plenty of monetary backing from EG7! And please, PLEASE don't be a reboot of EQN.

I take the Map of EQN over EQ2 and yes it's not as great as EQ 1 but neither is EQ2 Map. Heck even a RE-imagine of EQ2 Map over the EQ2 Map is better. So yes I really don't care if it's a Mountain or a Ocean splitting Qeynos to Freeport but not Splitting the whole world apart. Yes I don't want to see Daybreak do another Voxel EQ again since they have no idea how to do it right (Meaning not the whole F'in World including the Sun is Voxel and can be destroyed). This is why it's best to just go yes there places and towns you can Destroy but no your not going to Blow up the Sun or Tunnel your way through the world. Old Developers we had every enemy flying because we couldn't fix the fact that there maybe holes in the ground. There a better way Fix it so you can't destroy the Ground but that will kill the game. 🤦‍♂🤣

This doesnt really happen anymore. I wish I could find a group of people to play with on a regular basis. The reality is, TLP is launched and its like old times, easy to find a group etc. Then a few weeks after that everyone works on their boxes characters and then by the end of kunark no one groups anymore, LFG is empty - everyone is boxing

I'm going to say this early... I have no faith in Chan's ability to do anything other than keep the ship afloat. It doesn't help that she literally said the second most important pillar of EverQuest(s) legacy was "Fairness"... heh... ok. No faith, at all. NONE. She may be an acceptable steward for what the SERVICE has become, but IMO she needs to be kept as far away as possible from what's being cooked up.

Maybe they can build something out of the years of wasted time and money that was put into Landmark/Next? There was already a ton of work put into that, which if it could be salvaged, would really go a long way to getting a new game off the ground. Doesn't have to look anything like it, but it's still a start.

I believe it has to be a completely new game engine code-wise, with the illusion of being an addition to EQ1 & EQ2. (Gameplay will very likely be an adaptation of EQ1, with minute long combats, CC, group-focused, and role differentiation for classes.) So basically there is a "gate" from the two other worlds, where you can travel back and forth, of course you would need to own the other games as well for this gate to be open. You would need a conversion model, so that you can keep the identity of your toons, so as to support the illusion of it being one toon, with elements of microbenefits from achievements in the other games to carry over. So basically, whenever you travel between games, your soul inhabibts a different reincarnation, that lives in its own timeline. (So you start over in the games that you don't own). Microbenefits can be something as basic as an XP bonus, easily explainable because your soul has experienced more in a different time period 😀. Then I think the new game should contain the zones of the original Everquest, but going back in time, can't remember what the lore supports, but preferably many centuries or even millenia. This would support an illusion of why your toon would have to start over; again supporting the illusion of the identity carrying over. This would enable DP to _not_split_ is player base (again), but actually find a framework to _unite_ the player base, while still evolving EQ 1 and 2, for the benefit of 3. You no longer play 1, or 2, or 3, you play them all... Just Everquest...

The loyal people to the games ruined them, catered to an incredibly small group of people, and drove all that development into ghost town mode. Find people who realize that leveling should be fun and not drudgery, that too many commands in a rotation is absurd no matter how much you like it, that whenever you raise the ceiling for the fanatics, you have to raise the floor for new people and casuals--until EQ does that, no matter how much you LOVE it, you'll be throwing good money after bad.

The studio head? I don't think knew how to answer the question at all. You keep saying pillars of Everquest, but what are they really? It was a whole lot of nothing being said. There was nothing fair about EQ1and you didnt get to keep your achievements lol. You died you lost xp. You died a lot you lost levels. You died in a bad spot you lost your stuff. Necros, druids and bards could solo. Rogues could not wipe their asses without a group. Etc. But in sebilis rogues were king, so being a rogue paid off in the end. What made Eq special was it was a world. It was open and you went where you dared. You were forced to group and make friends. And the friends you made would often insta invite you when you logged in. There was hardly any gatekeeping in the early days. It was easy to die and hard as hell but players learned the ropes and survivability was a learning curve. And the players back then were okay with long downtime when friendships were made. What made it special for me? Falling down the Hole and making friends with the people down there because there was no easy way out for me. I ended up leaving 5 levels later when my newfound group mates decided to leave. Meeting a guildmate wizard in a cave, becoming friends and forming a strat that allowed a wizard and a rogue to duo from 41 to 52. We got through hell level 45 in a single day... Or forming a strat with a paladin that allowed us to farm jade reavers in City of Mist which made me rich... No gameplay mechanics forcing you to engage the world this way or that. You went where you dared and you tried things to compensate for missing players in the group and from that you made lifelong friends who were loyal, good at their class, and just all around great people. The EQNEXT team understood this, but its a shame they put tech before game design and went down the horrible voxel rabbithole.

Holly dangled this as well.. but hey, people have short memories and this will trick the poor cash cows into spending again and theyll get a bump in revenue. this is an old tactic that rarely fails.

Except this is not what the player base wants. They want any investment to go into their favorite version of the game (EQ1 or EQ2 respectively). Your analysis of agenda does not compute with my perception of player base intent. Hard to know what is true, but corps do not play around with announcements that can affect stocks, especially in the scandinavian countries (where I live), because it is highly illegal and very risky to mislead the stock market. The reason there is more transparency now is that EG7 is a Swedish company, it is simply no longer an option to have the same closed approach as a US company. And Swedes are notoriously stickers to rules... tediously so. Annoyingly so. (said the Dane 😀)
