I've never agreed with holeshot devices. It takes away a degree of throttle/clutch control, they've made it so it evens the playing field for lesser skilled riders.

When I raced 250 2 strokes back in the 80's & 90's I never had a holeshot device on my bikes. When I switched to 450 4 strokes I fitted a holeshot device, because everyone else had them. In one race I forgot to engage my holeshot device and got the holeshot. Maybe I didn't need it after all. 🤥

@@limpetcarre1139 same man, I was a 125 guy and never had any issues holeshotting against bigger bikes, admittedly it's hard to outride, start maps, launch control and all the other mod cons these days but even then with all that a rider with great reaction time and really good clutch control can still do it.

I've said the same thing over and over, holeshot devices and metal grid start platforms are ridiculous! Get rid of both those and let the track crew prep the ruts in front of the gate. First turn incidents would have to decrease.

I’ve been bagging on start PEDs for a while. Some want two row starts or staged grids like F1. 1st starts are always going to have increased risks. So who didn’t think increasing speed to the first turn wouldn’t have negative consequences. Start Performance Enhancing Devices not only increase speeds, they also reduce rider error that should naturally occur to allow more separation between the riders. I’m glad that the AMA isn’t running MotoGP. This is one time where common sense is not banned by a regulating body. Good job MotoGP

Do you think within the past few years that it seems that tracks have went down hill? Seems like they use way less dirt, steep shorter transitions (maybe slowing the track down) but I feel like that is a big reason ruts are so bad now… If that makes any sense lol… more stop and go blips of throttle vs the past tracks.

Trials riders are very talented. It’s an amazing for cross over into other race formats such as hard enduro etc. Just look at Billy Bolt and Mani Leitenbacher.

One thing from MotoGP is that the holeshot/ride height devices can be activated during the race (and they are), thus changing the geometry of the bike, especially in corner exits. Watch the video around the 3:30 mark and watch the bike squat down on both ends.

It's not the first time MotoGP has reduced displacement. From 2007-2011 the bikes were 800cc, then in 21012 went back up to 1,000cc.

@@Johnny_Hopper If I recall the corner speed was up for at least some of the corners on some of the tracks. I doubt the top speeds on the long straights were higher. I do think some lap records were broken due to the corner speeds at some tracks and the always-evolving technology to try and go even faster. I wonder how long this wlil last before the MotoGP bikes go back up in displacement.

Grates could go. I see holeshot devices as a safety device in and of itself. Yes it leads to faster starts however it keeps the front end down and lets you track straight. Arguments could be made for the opposite as well certainly. Holeshot device does arguably remove skill from the start. personally I think the grates need to go. They’ve created issues with bikes even being able to unload the fork if the front straight isn’t rough coming into turn 1. Removed even more skill from the start especially when you have launch control and your 2 steppin on the line.

Last year at SLC SUCKED! In previous couple of years you could walk up and down 200 S Street and run into Jett, AC or other riders, not last year. 200 Street had sidewalks blocked off for construction and where it wasn't blocked off there was homeless camps set up. Also, previous years you could hang out at fan fest and then head back to your room and take a nap, have dinner, get ready for night at Rice Eccles stadium, not last year. When you entered fan fest last year they would NOT allow you to leave and re-enter, even for the race. People were pissed about that. When we left after race we ran into parents with toddlers that felt the same way we did, NOT going to ANY more races at SLC. Really is disappointed being that SLC is closest race to us and we have always had a great time until last year. Not sure if the change was approved by Rice Eccles, or Feld, but either way it was a horrible decision to do that!

The holeshot & ride height devices are being banned isn’t to do with crashes Johnny, it’s to do with the stress that’s being put on the tyres causing the structure of the tyre to crack. Downforce from the aero as well isn’t helping this either. Also congrats on finally getting Bou pronounced right

I ragged on moto GP they have traction controll an now holeshot devices come a band aid...7 inches of front fork travel an they have a holeshot device...in mototo cross 4 stroke get such great traction they needed it but i never thought of how its double squats the front end when they are expecting the most stable response from their bike an the front end is pinched all the way down then it pops up while they needed it or are expecting it to load the front tire can be good time of the rebound release of the forks when ur loading hardest of the whole race...glad im retired

Eliminate hole shot devices. Keep the metal grates. Making everything easier doesn’t allow separation in riders ability. This is why I don’t like electric bikes either. Too easily on electric. Riders don’t need to select correct gear, down shift, up shift, etc…
