This Oris Oddity is a great talking point. Has modern watch design become too generic, constantly looking at the 50's, 60's & 70's for inspiration? How often do we hear about designs that are inspired by pieces from the 90's?

What an amazing piece. As you say, it's incredibly intuitive to use. The dial, the case and bracelet are an engineering work of art. How can anyone not immediately fall in love with it. This is now my all time favourite Oris. This would be my everyday wear. Wonderful! Well done Oris.

The 90s kid in me absolutely loves the dial of this Oris, as well as some Alain Silberstein watches from the 90s. Now please excuse me, while I change the batteries in my translucent pager, put on my TAG Heuer Link, and hop in my Acura Legend to pick up a 6-pack of Crystal Pepsi, whist listening to the latest TLC album on cassette.

@@ID-Guy The Ceramic Pepsi GMT and the OP41 Green. It is nice to be in a safe place where you can wear a watch without any thought 🙏 I recently had the 16710 polished and micro welded for some major dents and have stupidly regretted it. It looks great but is no longer the same watch. 🤷‍♂️

I love that you reviewed this watch, as I remember the Oris Worldtimer models of the late 90's. I thought it was such a clever design at the time, and I never quite understood why they didn't persist with it.

Nice to hear that you were putting your Santa Cruz Speedwheels on your Element deck and wishing you were Bob Burnquist or Tony Hawk. Maybe Mat Hofmann or Dave Mirra on that chromoly BMX back in the 90’s. I’ve got friends that are still riding theirs. The 90’s was an interesting time for watches. From the British Army and RAF helicopter pilots using the Seiko 7a28-7120 to the Nomos brand being created in 1990. Nomos first started production in 1992 but, in 1991 Audemars Piguet came up with the Wandering Hours mechanism with the Star Wheel watch. We all know of Pierce Brosnan wearing the first quartz SMP from Omega in Goldeneye (1995) and then the automatic version in Tomorrow Never Dies (1997). Omega also brought us colour in 1996 with the Schumacher Speedmaster Reduceds. There were many different watches of that decade but, I haven’t seen one like the design of this Oris before. This Oris, with its pushers to advance and rewind the hour hand reminds me of the Laurent Ferrier ‘Traveller’ GMT. That is the only watch I have seen buttons with that function on (albeit they are at 8 and 10 o’clock on the ‘Traveller’). It is a really interesting watch and props to Oris for giving you the chance to make this video. I’m sure that they aren’t disappointed! The shape of the Watch with the pushers at 8 and 4 o’clock give it a space aged look like a rocket. Almost like wings. The dual time indicator at 3 o’clock is great. I love that function on a GMT Watch. The smallish size (I’m guessing about 36mm) is ideal although I could imagine that a larger version could look like a Dive Watch or more like a Sci-Fi Movie prop than the watch that it is. A really thoughtful outlook on a very interesting Watch here my friend. Although I probably won’t be buying one, it’s great seeing what’s out there. Happy anniversary with this Watch Oris! ✊

Being a kid of the '60s I don't see the' 90s connection. I just really like this watch. Perhaps because I am a chronograph guy the dial layout is just fine IMO. And the GMT design is brilliant.

I know it's not the same kind of watch at all. Yet, something about this reminds me of the Omega Dynamic. Design-wise, just an oddity in the mix of the respective brand's usual suspects where the style is fairly different than anything they've produced before or since. That's the impression it leaves with me. Focusing back into this particular watch. It's "hella fresh"... Yes, I'm sure there will be tons of 90s colloquialisms in the comments. I wasn't keen on it at first. But, it's one I gave a shot and bit of time to check out your video and see what it was about and it's kind of likable in it's quirkiness and straightforward functionality. Thanks for a closer look and sharing this one.

Great video once again. Loving the dial and functions. The sort of intergrated bracelet isn’t for me. Hopefully they will bring something out with this diameter and dial layout with normal lugs. I think this would be great on a vintage leather strap. This morning rewatch an older video. The OP34 one, the olive is on my wrist. Still loving the thing.

It's a real oddity ;) Reading the interview I don't think they're planning on bringing back a production model of these pieces (yet) But the quirks are too cool. The size is also great! And you know that I'm a huge fan of that series of 34mm models... think they were 124200 or something? I was eyeing a white dial just before the series was discontinued... kicked myself a bit haha!

@@ID-Guy we can always hope for a production model. I think you are right on the model number. If you have the chance to pick one up, most colors are great, i would surely recommend one. It work in all situations. The Olive or Res Grape one if you have the chance, the white one could be a bit to plain imho.

This is almost uncanny. I am the fortunate owner of an "original" Oris Worldtimer from the 90s. I am unsure of the year of production, but it has a gold rotor. So it must have been produced before 2002. I found it on eBay. I believe it was basically part of an estate sale. Reportedly, the owner was a former Oris distributor. So basically it was NOS complete with plastic on the caseback and the strap. It is a gorgeous watch. It is not chunky or "mechanical" lookinglike the latest iterations. It is an elegant 38 mm piece with a champagne "guilloche" dial. The original strap was somewhat incongruous. So I have paired it with a beautiful Hirsch cordovan strap. It is basically my travel watch. I enjoy explaining the complications to anyone who will listen. I say it is uncanny because I keep telling myself that I need to try and demonstrate this watch on one of your wrist shot videos. I have thought that the only person who would appreciate the quirky beauty of this watch would be the IDGuy. Now, here it is....sort of. Thank you for bringing attention to this very unusual piece!

I got this watch - with the white/silver face and steel bracelet. It was bought by me in 1995 or 1996 in Oslo, Norway - the price was approx. $1000 at the time. Mine does not have a gold rotor. It has a "regular metal" rotor with the text "Cal 690, Swiss Made, 30 Jewels" engraved on the outer part and the Oris logo/shield closer to the center. The only gold part of the rotor is a small ring around the center bearing. It is a fantastic watch and I used to wear it daily for almost a decade - and on many overseas travels. Still keeps it's time within 5 seconds a day even though it has never been serviced. Nowadays I only occasionally wear a wrist watch. My only other mechanical watch is a Sinn U1, I bought back in 2010 or so (also a fantastic watch).

Wow that's pretty rad! (Am I doing 90's slang right? 😁) I don't know what to say about this Oris model other than it looks like it came out of the '97 "Men in Black" film. With its quirky dial, unorthodox pusher placement and polished finishing, you'd think this was some stealthy tech for fighting hostile aliens 😄. Appreciate you showcasing this, for a lack of a better word, "oddity" of a timepiece. It's definitely got a style and design that contrasts greatly from present-day Oris. Cheers 🍺

I own one, these are going for well over $3000 USD used. Bought mine around 2005/6. It is my go to watch when I want sexy yet classy luxury look, it is a very handsome watch. Mine has the display case back and a very sexy custom SS band. I would never sell this watch, I would love to see it in a 44mm version, it would bode well in that size in these times.

The nineties were definitely baroque. If there is one defining element on this watch, it is the crown in combination with the crown guards. I wonder how many man hours went in to it.

Lots of this "weird" watches have something in common, the more you look at and examine the more you realize its complexity. Like Tudor P01 for example, it is not so complex watch mechanically speaking but design-wise something you start to like it.

I reckon it would hold up well with day to day splashes and swimming. 50m usually means it has a more "robust" tolerance to the daily stuff (compared to the standard 30m)
