This is good news! I'm trading with 3,000$ cash account on Schwab's Think or Swim and I was only able to use 1,500$ per day. It's nice being able to buy and sell 10 times per day with a small amount compared to having a margin account with 3 day trades a week!
@david_a_uno9 ай бұрын
Exactly! Because you can't flow smoothly, ie, it's impossible to get in/out and back in instantly. T1 is nice, but it still doesn't help timing entries and exits.

PDT hurts the new trader "more" as they hold a stock longer because they don't want waste a trade. Then, they end up in a deep bag.

This is exactly right. I’ve been screwed because of this. It’s really not fair and there should never be a restriction like this.
@jpieters98889 ай бұрын
T2 hampered my ability to trade effectively because I’d hold positions way too long not wanting to sacrifice my one or two trades a day on a loss. So I’d hold, hoping it would reverse. It created a scarcity mindset, and no one wins with a scarcity mindset. I agree, instantaneous settlement would be great!

It's actually very funny how I used to think every investor went broke during recessions, meanwhile some made millions. I also thought everybody went out of business during the Great depression, but some went into business. Bottom line, there's always depression for some and profit for others, it all starts from having the right mindset. That said, I've set asides part of my savings to invest for future. Unfortunately I'm a complete noob.

I feel like the pdt rule is a barrier . When you only have 3 in and outs a week it's hard you'll most likely end up with fomo and jump in something for the day that you swear was going to the moon only to be forced to hold it until your next available day trade
@jopisano679 ай бұрын
Yes. I like how they tell you, limiting your trades on PDT, it's all because they do not want you to lose money, but at the same time, if you make your third trade, they will not allow you to sell it and are forced to hold on to a losing trade while you see your account evaporate. Their reasoning is so stupid.

Good Evening Ross. First thanks for all you do and teach. I have learned a lot from all your videos. I agree that going to a T1 is a game changer for day traders. I have often had to stop trading on a "hot" day because I ran "out" of settled money for the day. But I don't think we will ever see an instant settle of trades under the current technology. Here is why: Due to "Date of Record" for stocks that are paying out a dividend. Even on a T1 settle, only 1 person can own the shares. If it went to instant settle you might have 20 or 30 people own the same shares during the course of the day. They could make "Date of Record" down to a certain minute. But someone would figure out how to game the systems and trade in and out a many times during that minute. So then they would have to do down to the second for "Date of Record". I think then you would be running into technology constraints between computer systems at the different firms. The only way around this might be to offer instant settle only on stocks that don't have a dividend. Anyways, that's my 2 cents worth.

If cash accounts could keep trading their BP all day you would see bigger highs throughout the day. Now, most stocks, once people take profit they're done and it opens the door for easy shorts. That's why you only trade until 10 am all retail cash accounts are done for the day and there's less buying later on

I agree, having to wait a day or 2 also makes you lose more money in my opinion, because if you know you can only trade so many times…… it’s easy to get greedy and hold on to That trade longer than you should because you’re trying to milk the most money you can out of it….. then it turns on you and you lose….. vs if you had instant settlement, you could quickly lock in those profits and then jump back in if you felt it was going higher…. Basically a scalp method.

90% of traders will lose more money & 10% will make more and like you mention Ross that the brokers will earn much more profits now so it's a no brainer for them to favor the change while at the same time at least we have faster access to our trading funds now. As for the leverage, I would be in favor to let the trader decide of having a NO LEVERAGE account option with a T0 SETTLEMENT or having a second option of access to 4x MARGIN T1 SETTLEMENT.

I don't think you are correct. T+2 means if you are buying a stock on Monday, the settlement will happen on Wednesday. But it's not gonna be Wednesday morning; it will be at the closing. So you can only trade with the settled amount on Thursday. Similarly, for T+1, if you are buying a stock on Monday, the settlement will happen on Tuesday closing of market. And you can trade with the settled funds on Wednesday.
