IMHO it's like an empire. The larger the borders (graphics, size etc) the harder it is for quality to be assured, So cracks start to form (bugs). Eventually something sparks the entire collapse and causes whatever kingdom/dynasty (Company) to implode. It's why smaller nations (Indie studios) may be slower, but also have more quality. Also, gaming used to be niche, so devs were more likely to ACTUALLY do stuff to appeal to those geek/nerd types, but now it's just any other medium, having the most bland and broad things to appeal to.

@@EyadAlsayd-is2vjYeah most indie games are crap, mostly "artsy games", low quality H-Games that mostly use AI, and RPG Maker slop. But there are PLENTY of good ones released every year. Honestly with indie games, the games that try WAY too hard to be "unique" are usually the crappy ones. The indie games that do really well are the ones that take an existing gameplay style that's underutilized and does something new with it. Hollow Knight is basically "what if dark souls but 2D, hand drawn, creepycute, but with platforming focus" and it's not only one of the best indie games, but also one of the best GAMES ever. Celeste is basically "what if Mario World Kaizo but actually fair and also gay af." Thchia is "what if Zelda Windwaker had a baby with Mario Odyssey." Timespinner is "what if Castlevania, but with space lesbians and time travel." Spark the Electric Jester is basically "Sonic meets Devil May Cry meets Kirby meets Evangelion." A Hat in Time is basically "What if Mario Sunshine but modern and without jank." Terraria is "What if Minecraft, but 2D, focus on combat and exploration rather than building, and way more content and progression?" Hades is "what if rougelike, but actually good and beginner friendly?". Cuphead is "Contra, but boss-focused and styled after 1920s cartoons?" Every great indie game takes some existing concept and refines and innovates on it. The indie games that fail are the ones that try WAY too hard to be unique, quirky, "relatable", or be overly story-focused. Those are the games typically shown off in Nintendo's indie world events, and yeah, most of those games are slop. But there are SO MANY good indie games out there, many of which most people have never heard of. Stuff like Pseudoregelia or ZeroRanger or Crystal Story.

It comes from the word 'thermocline', which refers to how the temperature of a body of water changes as you go deeper, specifically in how the temperature remains alright up until the point where it suddenly drops and only gets colder further down. The trust thermocline is a somewhat similar thing, where customers can suddenly drop a product and never come back if their trust is sufficiently tested. This is because potential customers have a lower tolerance for breaches of trust than existing customers. Once you break the trust of your existing customers, you've already gone way past the point of potential customers having any trust in you.

They spent 8 years on this game. And I say what’s another 4 more? They should’ve reworked the game as soon as hero shooters fell off, maybe into an intergalactic variation of Payday.

The downside about this game is now PlayStation's gonna think "Huh, guess the only problem here was not being Free To Play on lauch and nothing else. Guess we'll just make more low effort slop and just make it Free to start."

Money talks, if broken slop games continue to make the most money through micro transactions then that’s where the corporates will go

The problem is, it takes 10 games to fail to make some vocal group realise that the industry is shit and then it only takes 1 good game (that is still riddled with mtx) to make them forget.

@@fujinshu That wasn't on the table to begin with, the game wouldn't live forever and when it would get low enough it would shut down, there was never an option for preservation, it's either completely dead or alive, no in between with an offline patch. It's only option was to succeed and have a large dedicated player base. Almost no "Live-Service" that doesn't have a singleplayer mode already will be "preserved"

I think what makes this frustrating is that stuff has been bad for so long because no matter how bad games get, players will always find a bunch of ways defend it anyways, and some will outright actively harass or shun you for having genuine constructive issues with a game. *cough* MWIII *cough cough*

This was a tremendous video in pointing out the problems with all of these AAA grade developers: Greed and Stupidity. All of these studios have massively popular and successful IPs, but they just keep on releasing slop using those names. Assasin's Creed isn't what it used to be, Halo is'nt wht it used to be, Starfield is ES Oblivion but released in 2023 and not 2006. Valve, FromSoftware and Remedy are Studios who make AAA games every time and always deliver big memorable experiences. Funnily enough, all of those studios are privately owned, not publcily traded, so they don't have shareholders and investors breathing down their necks.

With everything becoming more expensive and unaffordable, people are being a lot more picky about the media they consume. If I am going to drop $60+ on a game, it needs to be a good game and a complete game on launch. I can't afford to spend money on bad/mediocre products.

I'll believe CoD dies when I see it. I know people who actively complain about CoD, it's monetization, it's lack of innovation. And then they buy CoD. It looks like some form of insanity to me but it's what's keeping the franchise churning. Some people just want to buy Modern Warfare and Black Ops over and over. I don't have much love for AAA games anymore. I think indie/smaller studios (like Arrowhead, which employs about 100 people as opposed to the 300-1000 people a lot of big studios employ) are doing a fine job of filling in where bug publishers are fumbling. A game doesn't need a huge team to be good. I'd argue having a huge team is often an obstacle rather than an aid in making something fun.

I feel like in the modern day all game devs hate the games they work on because of awful executive decisions and horrible crunch hours that mentally degrade the devs and designers I wouldn't put alot of the blame on just the devs specifically. It's executives, investors, quotas, and profit.

This is way big studios like PlayStation should try and focus more on smaller titles, like bringing back “Sly Cooper”. And it’s not just games that shouldn’t be expensive. Even movies need to stop being so expensive, especially from Pixar. Pixar, if you ever read this, I get it, you add tools to your own animation software for each film because you’re taking creative risks and you have a lot of animators. I get why “Inside Out 2” would have a $200 million dollar budget. But do you think it’s really absurd that you make more money in the box office with a budget of $20-70 million as opposed to $200-300 million? Hell, an average animated movie usually costs between $80-100 million dollars. Why aren’t your films like that? Hell, even “Toy Story”, your first ever film and the first ever fully CG animated movie ever, had a budget of $30 million dollars. Pixar, you need to stop doing expensive budgets. It doesn’t make you cool. And on top of that, outside of movies like “Luca”, “Turning Red”, and other Pixar movies that are stylized, movies like Toy Story 4, Lightyear, and even Soul focus way too much on photo realistic imagery. Photo realistic CG animation isn’t impressive anymore, since every other studio’s doing it. I mean, why else did people hate the animation in “Justin and the Knights of Valour” or “Monster Family”? Plus, the photo realism takes away from expression and creativity, especially since cartoon-y faces don’t mesh well with realistic skin and hair, which makes it look uncanny. So, Spatnz, you got a fantastic point.👍🏻

I think one of the major problems that the big AAA companies have is that they are well-established, meaning that releasing a horrible game doesn't hurt them as much. the risk involved with putting out an indie game causes a lot of those games to naturally be better, as they have to innovate and show why their game is good to have people buy it rather than just slapping their brand on it and calling it a day. AAA games, on the other hand, just slap their name on a game and get at least some people to buy it, regardless of quality.
