Saw some highlights. Kid can wheel. He's got hands and he's fast. He's awesome breaking the neutral zone which we don't have enough of. Saw him motoring from the d zone into the offensive end with power. He's good defensively too. Great bsckchecking. Good at stealing the puck in the neutral zone as well. Problem is He's a prep school kid, hopefully he don't have that prep school curse

Actually, if you look at how many of Sweeney's draft picks have made it to the NHL, he is top 5 in NHL. Too many folks focusing solely on first round but we all know quality NHLers can be found in every round and Sweeney among the best if you look at the stats.

I liked greentree but we really need centres and where his weight and height are he’ll probably be killer on face offs when he does get the chance to be in Boston he’ll probably be here in 2 years, I think if he can keep progressing he will be that future stud centre

If this kid comes anywhere close to having some Tage Thompson skills, the B's will have done themselves well with this pick. Pretty much got him where most projections had him placed: towards the end of Round One. People have to slow their roll in thinking he's a bruiser being that tall. He's not. Maybe never will. Early in his career with the Bruins, Blake Wheeler was fried for not being physical enough for some. Later on with the Jets, he was as rugged as anyone on that club. Let's see how Letourneau develops against tougher competition.

Any player that makes it to NHL was a good pick. Thank you for pointing that out. If you think that most late first round picks turn out to be top six forwards or top 4 D, you are waaaay overestimating vast majority of late first first round picks. Yes, you can and probably will give a few examples of late first round stars but for each of those, I will give you 10 first round failures. The goal is for picks, whether first or last round, to make it to NHL. If one looks at Sweeney's stats, he is top 5 in NHL for picks making it to NHL. A draft pick simply making it to NHL should be viewed as successful pick. Florida also proved draft possibly overrated. Only THREE players on Panther roster were original FL draft picks.

I'd take another Joe Thornton in a heartbeat. And so wouldn't a lot of teams. Interestingly, my concern when I started digging into this was that the Bruins- when the time arrives -would not go the same route, as they did with Joe (because they were "afraid" of what they might have to pay him). However, that they paid Pasta has me believing that they've turned that corner.

Actually, if you look at the facts....number of picks who make it to the NHL, Sweeney top 5 in NHL. Be my guest to look it up. Sadly, many folks shortsighted and look solely at first round. Gotte look at entire draft. Skill found in each round.
