Plus, Marty is not a genre snob. Covers it all. Edit: Learning songs in other genres (even if you don't really love them) can exponentially grow your improvisation skills.

Seems like dear Marty is getting a worse teacher these days-hehe. Probably because is he's become a very skilled guitarist-these solos, especially 1&3 are gems. I've listened and played along about 25 times now. But please show some of the licks in slow-motion like you used to. (And add a D-C-G for suspense)

If Segovia can play with sausage fingers, you can play too. Just get a guitar with a wider fretboard and/or practice precision.

Thanks, lesson hits home for sure. I picked up a low G concert ukulele 8 months ago and it taught me an incredible amount about working those 4 strings closest to the floor, you would not believe it. Plus, you can put it in your pocket basically. Then when I pick up the guitar, if feels like I have these extra two bass strings to play with now! I completely stopped solely looking at my guitar chords based on the low-pitched strings. I also became more adept at playing the top of the neck where the fret spacing is tighter. You learn many chord degrees on 4 strings playing a ukulele as that is all you have to work with. Having an unwound low G on a ukulele was a complete game changer for me. Edit: It also remarkably opened up my lead playing. Approaching the chord shapes from the "bottom up" really shines some light.

3:29 do you have a tip for this (see your video). If I place my fingers down for the triad shape and I try and add in the high E string , it cause me to tug my fingers down and I end up muting the upper strings especially the B string. Nothing rings out clean. It makes me almost roll my fingers downwards causing me to interfere with the strings above it. Driving me blinkers I say. If I don’t finger the high e then everything is crystal clear on the DGB strings. By adding the E string my finger which is on the D ends up muting the B string because it pulls my fingers down for some reason

left elbow towards your ribcage and fingers more parallel to the frets, also the more your try it, the more it will work itself out.

Man, so many nuggets of info in there to keep coming back to explore! The triads in major, then in minor, some linking of the scales in there with licks, and then even double stops, even demonstrating parts of popular songs within the examples. Thank you, Marty!

I am totally screwed. At my age I'd be over 100 years old before I even got passed beginner. It's not your teaching. I've had no success on any other teaching application on UTube. You can't expect to be an even fair beginner watching UTube videos. I've practiced acoustic guitar lessons on Erich Andreas's website and also hit a brick wall. I've tried Justin Guitar and others. I can't get passed the basic open chords and consequently can't even play one song after a year;s worth of instruction and practicing everyday. I' read and practiced so much I could teach guitar theory to college grads but can't apply it to sound like anything other that paper. I appreciated your instruction. There does come a time in my life when I'm overcome with frustration and my patience has been stretched to its limits. I've thrown in the towel. I'm not writing this to complain as others have had success and continued improvement. I am your student who feels brain-dead. My hearing is excellent and I've read music since I was a teenager playing the violin. The guitar has floored me completely. I can even play banjo after a year of online instruction but I realize all the equipment and practice will never get me passed Beginner playing open chords. I write this to those like myself have struggled. It's okay to throw in the towel and sell your guitar and listen to Spotify. I understand how you feel and it's okay . You're not giving up, you are realizing your time is better spent riding a motorcycle or working in your woodshop, etc. Whatever you get good at , stick to one thing, don't try to excel at something that's not going anywhere for you. I'm not angry at anyone, including myself. I'm only writing to save others from feeling that they are a failure when it's just that guitar practice is a waste of your time. Enjoy music played by others who are talented. That makes for a more enjoyable use of your valuable time. '

You need to break things down more. Look at these chords here for example, they are all parts of larger chords broken into pieces using the top 2,3 or 4 strings to play melodies. If you know the major scale, which you obviously do from playing violin, then you just find a major chord, say G using Marty's first 3 strings method and then go up 5 frets to play the 4th interval and 2nd major note of the key which is the C and then do the same by moving up another two frets and you have the 5th, a D. You then have all three major chords in the key and can play hundreds of songs. Repeat in any key you like. If you can play the open chords then you can obviously do this.
