Had to replace a turbo on a 2019 transit today, as a first year apprentice 😂 the turbo is exactly the same as in this video, dpf was completely filled with oil too , however didn't know this was the reason they fail lol, I was told the turbos are bad 😂 thanks for the knowledge

Luckily for this customer, when he started to hear it whining, he brought it home and never drove it until we got to it two weeks later- he’s a subscriber too! Well done for tackling it though mate! Nicely done lads people don't realise just what's involved in changing a turbo. Also hope you don't mind me adding this but just to explain about halfway through your video you said to let your engine idle before switching it off, the reason this is a good idea is the turbo gets so ridiculously red hot when the engine is under load and you switch it off, it's still sat there red hot but now with no cool oil being pumped though it and it tends to boil it and leave baked on deposits all round it. Which can lead to the blocked pipes mentioned, so give it a few seconds before you kill your engine, and maybe you can avoid a massive repair like this .)

I actually did that with the oil once! We were rushing because it was starting to rain, I thought my mate had put the sump plug in, he thought I'd done it, we ended up pouring 5 litres of oil straight through the engine all over the street. the p0erson is very lucky because sometimes those Turbos suck up the oil and the engine carries on and on the best way to stop it is with a plastic bag over the manifold to stop the air getting in and it will stop the engine ,thanks for the video

Quite difficult to prevent for the average Joe, especially when the natural instinct is to dip the clutch to disengage drive, by which time the engine goes bananas. Trying to stall it using the clutch can work but can also burn out the clutch. Not many cars /vans have air intakes that are easily located in a panic situation & blocked up quickly. I guess the best solution is to stall the engine in gear using the brakes, but how many of us would recognise the fault & do this in time?

Was going to say , how how many miles it done but with just 90K , that isn’t really good enough but these turbos on these newer Fords are not the quality they used to be but can see & appreciate the possibilities that caused it to go in the first place . Try Wurth “Rost Off” - 45c freezer spray Marvelous , it’s shrinks the thread or bolt by 5% also turns the bolt or thread dark blue indicating it’s - 45c & it does work , I’ve used it to do seized brake Caliper bleed nipples , btw good to see you & Co back pal 👍🤙

This is the type of owner that I'd like to buy a used car/van from; mechanical sympathy with regular oil services & also stopping driving it immediately when an issue like this turbo whine began. With the amount of play in those turbo bearings, I reckon he saved his engine sucking engine oil & going into diesel runaway.

I repair turbos in my garage. So cheap to repair. About £30-£50 for a bearing kit. I`ve even lathed up some bearings before for a JCB. That one will be scrap lol. When I worked in a turbo repair shop most were scrap. I would say about 1 in 4 is ok to fix.

Turbo went because the wet belt falls to bits, clogs the oil pickup on the pump down in the sump, and creates a low oil pressure situation at lower RPMs, Nothing to do with these pipes at all, If your worried about the tiny filter in the pipe break it out with a punch, blow out with an air line..0 need to replace these hardlines, Oh well only the customers money right???? ........
@themarvelousvlogАй бұрын
They do get clogged… I’ve seen it many times- worst is on Peugeot 1.6T and BMW N47 engines. It’s always a good practice to replace those pipes regardless anyway. The customer is a KZbin subscriber so I hope he’s here somewhere to tell the story but he’s had the wetbelt a month or so before we replaced the turbo, and apparently the strainer was completely clean and the belt was apparently in good condition, but it was still replaced regardless. I’d say, money well spent for replacing those pipes 😁

Offttt... Ford wet belt design, ouch!! A terrible flawed design where a rubber belt is submerged in BOILING OIL which results in the belt: i) Cracking and degrading resulting in the sump and oil inlets being blocked and the Turbo being starved of oil in the process... BOOM!! ii) Snapping between 30-50k miles (30-50% of recommended 100k miles) resulting in total engine failure due to interference engine! Absolute Homer Simpson design... doh!! 🤣 I'm only laughing and joking as my Focus Ecoboost wet belt went SNAP last week at 40k... Yes 40k!! Luckily my car fully paid off!! For anyone out of pocket for these terrible engines I have sympathy I really do! My joking is no reflection or provoking of anyone troubled by the wet belt flaw! My Engine was made in September 2019 Cologne Engine Plant yet belt snaps at 40% of its recommended time frame! 🤣 How the fuck is that possible?!! Before anyone goes there... only drive 5k per year and get yearly service and oil change etc = FLAWED FORD DESIGN! Anyway I picked up a Kia XCeed Special Edition a few days ago and the Specs are top class and easily surpasses fords mediocrity!! I wouldn't buy a Wheelbarrow with a Ford badge on it... fuck that hassle!!
