Do objects need to be moved diagonally in all types of patterns or just in half drops?

I have 2 questions: 1- when I hide any of the copies or the original one all instances or copies of my main symbol disappear ; so what to do to hide only one or 2 copies 2- I tried moving elements inside my symbols so they overlap like you demonstrated but it didn't work 🤔....any advise I had to put the instances of my symbol in on top or bottom for the layout to be correct Thank you
