I recently had the privilege of checking out my friend Bryan's G80 M3. He showed me the modifications he's done, we put it on the lift and compared it to a G20 M340i, then took it for a drive.
Even though I wasn't initially a fan of the car's looks, I was really impressed by how it drove, especially with the handful of performance upgrades that Bryan did.
With the automotive industry quickly shifting to EV's (and BMW being an early adapter of both electric and hybrid cars), this may be the last internal combustion M3 that we get.

Try looking at the underbody of a G20 M340i with the “Cooling and High Performance Tire Package”. It’s closer to the G80 than you may think. It has the same oil cooler.

Ive owned my G80CXD for a few months now, and knowing what I do about it, I would have paid $20k+ over MSRP for it. While I didnt have to do that, the car's value for its price is superb! It goes from Housewife to Stripper with just a push of a button. It has to be the greatest practical sports car, ever! One minute I have my two kiddos comfortably in their backseats and groceries in the spacious trunk, and the next minute(after drop-off) Im gapping C8 Vettes. An AWD Saloon with that level of performance is extremely rare, but not only the level of OEM performance, but its ceiling potential & how easy it is to tap into it. With just $5k of upgrades, you can squeeze another 160-180 WHP out of the S58, a powerhouse of an engine, and how the car utilizes & puts that power down in such an efficient manner is what is so surprising. If you dont get the carbon ceramic brakes or carbon bucket seats, the costs really isnt that high. While all the "Edmund style" car reviewers use the most expensive spec possible, in reality the car is evenly priced with the C8 Vette & GT500(Not to mention the dealer markups on those cars, which is more than BMW markups, at least from my research). Real world prices, a G80CXD is less expensive than a well optioned GT500, dealers have $10k-$25K markups on GT500s, not to mention the GT500 is not practical AT ALL as a daily driver. 13MPG, no useable backseat, cant drive in winter, etc... When I was researching which cars to purchase, I researched all options.... MACH1 GT500 CHarger Hellcat Challenger Hellcat Camero ZL1 RS3 RS5 C8 Vette When all factors compared, the G80CXD stood head & shoulders above the rest. RS3 was in second, however its practically impossible to find one new, and if you do, its likely not optioned well, or the dealer wants $10k+ over MSRP. Some major purchases in life, afterwards may offer a bit of buyers remorse....... Not here.... I love this car more after every time I drive it. This is my first BMW, and the build quality, versatility, practicality, performance, personalization, etc have made me a massive fan of the brand. Ill be keeping mine for a very long time, and I CANNOT wait until BMW launches an AWD M2 G87, because it will too grace my garage. If you are on the fence about purchasing a G80 or G82, execute and dont hesitate, I promise you wont regret it! I havent driven a RWD G80, but I fully recommend the XDrive version, for those living in the North and have 4 seasons, its literally the ultimate sports car for dads...

@@HamishCarpenter Yeah definitely going to take a look at the differences from the 22 to the 23. However I can tell you right now that I'm not a fan of continuous removal of hard buttons and knobs. Just like my mk7 Golf R is perfect the way it is in terms of climate control knobs and buttons etc and now the mk8 forces you to go into the infotainment for every single little thing so I can understand why you're not a fan of the 23 if in fact they've done the same thing.

Nevertheless, I still think it’s a great car for the money/power. I will be looking at them more closely on the new year before I purchase. we put crossover pipes on our muscle cars 40 years ago when we were 17 - we also put the 6 cylinder front suspension springs in them to lower our whips instead of cutting the V8's front suspension springs - crossover pipes minimize pulsing between cylinder banks which this car doesn't 'really have' - my guess is that 3 cylinders in the exhaust manifold are used for one turbo and the other 3 are used for the second turbocharger so minimizing the potential 'pulsing' that could cause unnecessary back pressure in the exhaust is the reason for the crossover pipe - it has nothing to do with improving the sound ( although it actually might ) ....

The grille that everyone hates actually is new, different, and looks great. What I have never really liked that no one has seemed to criticize is the Hofmeister kink has been tinkered with and it’s not really a traditional Hofmeister shape. There was no reason to change the kink when the end result is not better. The new grille up front is better. But that’s just nitpicking on my part. The car overall is amazing.
