The hard part about KZbin is that it processed the audio in the video thus taking away a lot of that difference in dynamics. You should bounce a pair of them say at 24 bit/96kHz of each signal and let people hear them through their set ups free from the streamed and highly compressed KZbin versions.

No need for that box at all for such use. It s hardly noticeable too :) Where it could make a difference would be to use with software amp sims, still no need also, when people have good preamps. Thanks for the video. Nice :)

Looks nice, I don't like DI boxes with tons of knobs and features. All I want is for the DI box to put what's coming out of my amp onto my PC with no clipping or artifacts.

I've been using the Strymon Big Sky HW with speaker simulate as my DI into Instrument inputs on my ADC and then post processing as needed with various amp sims in my DAW, seems to work well most of the time - but sometimes only an amp has the secret sauce (at least for now). REALLY looking forward to Strymon coming out with a more sophisticated Amp sim than the Iridium, maybe with larger Big Sky enclosure - the Iridium has many good settings but I do think there is still room for realism improvement.

Hi you came SO close to answering my question - let me ask for more detail: ok, plug the guitar IN then use the XLR OUT to the interface. Cool. Then come OUT of the 1/4” THROUGH jack to the pedalboard you described. Cool. That’s where I need clarity - after the pedalboard, are you going to an amp and micing the amp? How are you getting from the pedal board to the interface? And how to use the GND switch? I’ve got a mono RNDI. Please let me know, or any other commenter your advice would be appreciated! Thanks everyone!
@chordsoforion Жыл бұрын
for this video, i am using the Strymon Iridium BEFORE the Neve, using it to split the signal. Left output of the Iridium goes to the Neve, which is plugged into my audio interface. Right output of the Iridium is plugged into another input of the interface. That way, I could compare the signal with and without the DI. A use for the 1/4" through would be to split the signal from the guitar. So the chain would be guitar->Neve->THROUGH->amp/pedalboard/etc. And of course the XLR output of the NEVE would go direct into the audio interface or the PA mixer.
@Kmuggle2 жыл бұрын
Great review ... and I'm sure it's a good piece of kit ... but the stereo model ain't cheap. Why would I want to buy the Neve over any other DI? For all I know maybe I could get 90% there at 75% of the cost.
@quietsoundscapes2 жыл бұрын
Great idea to record the dry signal and the pedalboard output. Regarding the difference in sound or tonal quality between direct into you're DAW and via the Neve: It might as well be that we are hearing the difference in sound between the line input and the Mic input . Did you also compare those without the Neve? Just curious...
@genepozniak2 жыл бұрын
I listened with my eyes closed, and the Neve produced crisper highs and, indeed, reduced muddiness in mids, allowing individual strings to stand out more.

I personally have the mono version of the RNDI which I use right before Scarlett 2i4 2nd gen and it really help with the DI signal. If I could describe it I find the signal to be more transparent. Less boxy in the low mids (250hz ~) and a bit more air in the top range. Yeah, it may not sound as much, but in reality it saves you a lot of work when you run multiple sources of signal. Imagine having to record multiple instruments, walls of guitars, etc.

My question is? I run 1/4” out of an LR Baggs Venue into my Scarlett, but I’m guessing you are running XLR out of the Neve into Scarlett, my understanding is that on the Scarlett 1/4” doesn’t use the preamp, where the XLR does, is that true?
@chordsoforion2 жыл бұрын
You would have to confirm with Focusrite about when. the preamps are used, however, I would assume that they are, as phantom power would be turned on.
@xx-ip7ej2 жыл бұрын
Did you plug the neve into the input associated with a mic preamp on the interface? You have to have phantom power right? I was hoping to plug this into a line input on my interface but it seems like you need to use a mic/line combo which has phantom power.

Don't buy this for the 'tone'. Only get this if you need to transmit cables over 10 meters. Any 'tone' stuff on this can be achieved with an eq plugin or pedal. Differences in phase inverted summation can be created by a simple delay of 1milisecond even. Which is reasonable by adding any amount of cable. Use your ears and your brain. Bill's tone is in his fingers and his guitars, and in the Strymon pedals.
