I am doing the same this year. bought a butane gas fire first and now got one of those parafin ones on the way that I got Second hand .I just cant afford the energy bills , I also wash my clothes by hand and air dry them. and I boil the kettle once in morning on the gas stove and sit it on tea light candles all day and it keeps the water nice and hot so I can have a cuppa any time without having to re-boil.

Bought one last year never used it, now it's cold in France 🇫🇷. I didnt even know it had a wick! Lost instructions. I suppose I need to check that there's not a wick in there, and the one that was loose I side is not a spare? Thanks for this video, and good to hear a great English accent, I've been in France 30 years!

Just ordered one of these heaters from eBay and good to see how it all comes apart for wick replacement, and see how well designed they are! Like you, loathe to stick the electric heating on which costs a fortune - so hopefully this will help bring the utility bills down a fair bit! Thanks Martin for that useful video - I'll consult again when coming to replace my heater with a new wick! Dead easy!

You might be able to rinse that wick out with a bit of petrol, then let dry out for a few days, then put it away for another usage in future.

I am so grateful that you made this video because I actually bought a no name second hand heater, apparently in good condition but I had to learn how to use it/maintain it and obviously no name and no instructions made it daunting… thanks to this video I can say with some confidence that it is a clone of this model, I have yet to dismantle it but one discouraging thing is that at least on Amazon Italy, should it be necessary that the wick be the exact one in this video, rca 200… well, I saw it for 60 euros! I guess I am wondering to what extent it would need to be the same wick as shown here to perform properly, because others were much more affordable they just didn’t have the same labelling but amongst these some had the little metal attachments, not sure about measurements or how to know if they match, I just hope the 60 euro option is due to marketing matters

Nice look inside this heater. Seems build the old way: so that you can get inside and repair stuff. I have an off-topic question, where do the gasses go? Is there a vent in the top? I want to use one in my camper van, but I insist on a chimney. Do you see an improv possibility? cheers, thanks for the vid

Indeed. that's why I want a chimney on it, but I never saw one in the flesh. It is just an awesome option between complicated parking heater or wood stoves as electricity is often unavailable. I guess it is a No No. Thanks@@retrorestore

Hi Martin just curious, since you have paraffin heater, diesel heater may be gas or electric fire is there anyway to do a comparison, my Dad always said that paraffin was cheaper than gas because all heat stays in house and not up chimney. Cheers Mick
