Looks great Alex. 🌞🌱❤️ Hope to be able to take a class this year. Am designing a multi unit building with 4 separate spaces for 1-2 people then a larger space for a 4-6 person family/group unit. The front of the building would be a public space with tables, rest room, kitchen, laundry and R&R area. Sounds large but is smaller then most doublewides. Am consolidating materials to reduce cost and meet the needs of upcoming visiting work crews.

Question: im assuming you are gonna use an exterior lime plaster here like with cobb, but couldnt you use that exposed stud framing for hanging board and batten or a rainscreen siding? And if you did so, would you still have to cover the straw with a protective plaster or housewrap? Or leave as is?

Thanks for the video! do you need plywood next to provide shear strength? can I use 15-Gauge Welded Wire Fence with Mesh 2 in. x 2 in with lime plaster and would that be enough for shear to replace plywood? can I cob the whole exterior first and then lime plaster to kinda seal it up so to prevent from rodents and insects thanks for your time hei

Quick question Alex …how much insulation did you install under the slab ? And what did you use . & U nvalue… looks great by the way 😊

I actually used no insulation under the slab. I could have, but it doesn't get super cold here.

Amazing progress on the house. I have a few questions though, do you not need a continuous insulation envelope? The insulated wall stops above floor level and the stem wall is a break in the thermal envelope. Is this is not necessary in America or your particular state? Because in Ireland to get a high performing building and to meet performance regulations we build with a continuous thermal line throughout the envelope of the building.

Not always necessary here. I'm literally sacrificing that insulation at the bottom for the aesthetic of the brick. Where I'm at, we just don't need to have a full envelope.

May I ask why so small? (I'm assuming this is where you will be living?) How much of the size, design and build were a function of local building code compliance?

Yes, no permit is required here for 120 square feet or less.
