If you do disconnect that hose, the engine will run very rough/stall and check engine light will come on. Re-connect the hose and the engine will run normal again and check engine light will go out after runni g about 15-20 minutes

I changed my air filter myself for the first time and this video was helpful. Apparently, someone who has worked on it in the past broke off the left clamp. It's not there at all! I don't remember any techs ever telling me about doing that. I guess they didn't say anything because it is not loose there at all and they didn't want to take responsibility.

lol. I undid the metal clamps, pulled the filter housing back, and heard a piece of plastic snap near the back. I still have no idea what broke where. But I hope it wasn’t important😂

Hiw often should the filter be changed

It is recommended every 10k miles, or every other oil change (which should be 10k miles).

Simply put the change interval is dependent upon the conditions you drive in. Dusty dirt roads = change more often, etc. Check the condition of the filter every other oil change and when it gets dirty change it.

Unlike the cabin air filter, the engine air filter only goes in one way which is why it doesn't need to say this side goes "up" or this is the "air flow" direction.

Gabriel, the factory service manual specifies that the filter be changed at 30,000 mile intervals. It also specifies that the cabin air filter be changed at this interval too.

My Toyota marked a check engine light after i changed it i even connected the tube at top and it still says "check engine" 😩 any help?

I'm pretty sure a vacuum hose came lose somewhere. Also, ensure the filter housing is full seated. There are lock tabs on the opposite side of the latch brackets. Let us know what you find.

Yeah me too I just change mine I did the cabin filter and it was all good when I turned it on then I did the air filter and when I turn it on it start vibrating and it turn off by itself and turn on all lights on the dashboard I did mine in my Nissan Rogue and it was all good then now that I try to save up some money to my gf this happen I feel so unsure of what could be wrong

Front clip hard to reinstall. Used HF pry bar 90 degree bar. Worked. Toyota failed to attach front clip. :( 81 senior.

I did an install on my own before seeing this video, and that hose came out on me too. Judging by the comments here, it seems to be a common occurrence in this generation. That is probably the worst design for air cleaner replacement I've ever seen. Air filters are a consumable that must be replaced regularly. It should be easy for any DIYer to do. This is an unnecessary hassle.

I've actually seen some cars that require bolts to be removed to access the air filter housing. I agree that this can definitely be simplified though.
