I was able to replace my air filter by following the pictures in the user manual, but the shock absorber came off, and I hadn't paid attention to what it was attached to, so I couldn't tell which of the two loops to use to attach it inside the compartment. Your video is the only one I could find that actually showed which loop to snap where, so thank you for that!

Was having my FREE oil change on my '15 RAV 4 @ Naples Toyota here in Florida and the mechanic showed me the dirty cabin air filter and told me he could put in a new one for $50 plus tax ($53.00). I said no thank you and came home, went on line and bought two new ones plus two new engine air filters for $32.17 delivered. Same they are charging me about 121 to change both filters. I was like no thanks. We had just spent 1271 fixing the A/C and replacing the rear brakes. I couldn’t believe that 1000 was just the labor costs alone! Toyota dealers try to rip us off lol. I ordered the filters and will do it myself.

I just changed mine out following this video. My plunger thingie came out when I unhooked it and it was a breeze to put back on. Saved me a bundle! I would recommend changing it out in the daylight or have a flashlight handy because it's mighty dark in there.

I can't believe how easy that was. Perfect. Air flow arrows point down as they would on any horizontally mounted cabin air filter with the blower motor mounted below the filter. If your filter says up next to the arrow, that's telling you which side goes up and is not indicating air flow direction.

My problem was that the glove box wouldn't close - seemed like something was behind it / blocking it from closing. I took the glove box out using your video, and the cover for the cabin filter had come off and was indeed blocking the glove box. I put the cabin filer cover back on, put the glove box back in, and everything works fine. Thanks much!

Useful video but I believe the filter goes in the other way round with the printed edge facing you and the filter folds perpendicular to you not horizontal. This way, it would be much easier to push in as well.

Mostly right but the little shock absorber is usual to drop out when you remove the compartment. its not broken, you just reattach the bottom hole to the tooth right behind the glove box. 9 times out of 10 that "shock absorber" will drop out.

Now ! That Air Filter that You pulled out is quite Clean ! No residue nor Leaves or Twigs imbedded in or on it ! You said at the beginning that when You had the Air Conditioner Fan on High that no Air came out or very litte but , but , it (the Fan) was making quite a lot of Noise , so , guess what ? You had the Fan on but ONLY for the Windscreen instead for the Cabin ,lol ! Better change that , eh , Dude ? The plaster air filter cover has an arrow indicating the air flow direction. Rav4's have an up arrow (air flow goes up). The video seems to indicate the filter was installed backwards - air flow down.

Perhaps. It's been a while now. Toyota tends to put the arrow facing in the direction of airflow while aftermarket makers have the arrow point up.

Up arrows have nothing to do with air flow. They're simply telling us which side goes up. Air flow is down and an air flow arrow should point down.

@@njsongwriter Hi Jack. When I pull out dirty filters the debris is always sitting on top of the filter. Otherwise, the blower fan (which is beneath the filter) would get caked in dust and debris. Next time you pull out your filter check it out.

You can hit an auto parts store. The after market filters are literally the same thing as the OEM filters and a little cheaper. You can also buy in bulk online.

Hi Melissa, My wife has a 2018 now and I just confirmed the glove box assembly is identical to the way it is set up on the 2010. This means it will also work for your 2016. The only difference is that the blower housing is black instead of offwhite like on older models. Good luck.

I just paid $21.99 for an air filter and $8.00 for labor and $21.99 for cabin filter and $19.95 for labor at the dealership... they got me but didn't feel like going to auto part store. But I will nxt time

You forgot to place the air filter in with the arrows pointing in the correct direction

@@ThisGuyProductions The old filter you took out and the one you put in had the "air flow" arrow on the filter pointing down, which is the direction of the air flow thru the filter compartment. I say you did it right and that's the way I did mine. Why does the Fram video tutorial tell you to point the arrow up and why is there an arrow pointing up on the door to the filter compartment - I don't know?

@@ThisGuyProductions I went to the Fram site and here is their reply. Dave 11:41 Hi Donald, The arrow on the Fram filter is an air flow indicator and installs with the arrow pointed downward. We are working on correcting the on-line videos- we have some issues with a third party supplier of the videos.

@@DonCorrigan1 Good call out Don. I swapped to STP shortly after the video. I dont recall if the arrows pointed in different directions.
