I really liked the house as a whole. The parlor and stairs were really nice. I can only imagine the horrors that were commited inside when they "updated" it to condos. The outside still looks great. Thanks Ken.

Mr Endicott would smile proudly that citizens can still enjoy his home 124 years later. Your legacy sir. ✨ Brilliant home.

What a beautiful house..it speaks of quiet dignity with an eye for fine craftsmanship... I felt that the whole house is my favorite

Thanks. I know this house well and have been in it many times. Several friends have owned condos in the building during the 35 years I lived in Boston. I lived on Beacon Hill in a Charles Bulfinch building. Now I live in the south of France.

163 Marlborough Street. Looking at past listings online, the interiors seem to be intact, mantelpieces, plaster work, et cetera. Eye watering price estimates on the larger units.

I like the library with the big bay windows

Just a tiny part of a beautiful home, but I noticed how at 4:15 we see an interior door with window panes in it, allowing for natural light to extend further into the interior even when the door is closed.

Thanks for this glance inside a house I walked past many times during my grad school days in Boston -- often musing about the people who lived there. The house is included in Bainbridge Bunting's book, Houses of Boston's Back Bay (1967) Delightful, as are all your informative episodes.

With it's simple lines and lack of gaudy ornamentation this house has an air of refined elegance.

I'm glad that the building still remains and hope all the architectural details weren't stripped away to make condos.

I went to school in Boston and the campus was scattered over back bay. These mansions were amazing and several of these mansions were used as classroom buildings. Though they were not furnished and maintained in their prior grandeur they were absolutely MAGNIFICENT!

Nice surprise to find out it's still standing! The interiors are interesting - seems to me the pics were taken well into the 20th century (1958?) as the table lamps look very late. Looks like the place was gently updated around 1910 (?) and that was that until the family moved out.

Good eye! The interior photos range from the late 1890s-the late 1940s. The family kept it up, and like many homes today, the son’s family updated it slowly as the decades rolled on.

Thanks for another great tour. I was especially impressed by the fantastic Japanese-inspired portieres in the library, wish I could see them in color!

I noticed that they gained quite a bit of frontage over the years. They now have a nice sized front yard.

KEN, I'VE SPENT TIME IN BOSTON, AND IN BACK BAY, AND WHILE I DON'T REMEMBER SEEING "THIS HOUSE", I CAN ONLY SAY ONE THING: RESTORE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's great it is still standing. I'd love to get in it and see what's left of the original house. Could it be converted back to a mansion museum some day? That would be great. The interiors were classy, wealthy, yet comfortable. A place I'd love to live in!

I do like the exterior. I wouldn't mind having a condo there, even if the interior had been updated. This reminds me of the housing one of my sisters lived in while she attended Boston Univ, where some of the housing includes brownstones.

I like the look of this building. Second Empire you say? Well done. The rooms are very interesting, but I felt distracted but all the stuff. Each room was filled with knick-knacks, vases, chairs, etc. Too, too full. The architecture is very pleading. The kitsch? Not so much.
